WPTouch Pro for Mobile Usability

mobile usabilityIf you missed my last post about getting mobile ready with responsive web design and you haven’t had the time to make a new website or blog overhaul, you may just need the right plug-in. I had the FREE WP Touch version for years here and realized the only page that was mobile friendly was my posts page. (Which I had re-directed from my homepage).

I started looking over my Google Webmaster Tools and got deep into my HTML and other technical parts of the site. Then it hit me like a rock – All I needed to do was spend a little money and upgrade to the WPTouch Pro plug-in! In less than 5 minutes I had the issue resolved. For a little over $50 the problem was resolved and I could continue to work on upcoming posts vs. spending hours on technical issues. Isn’t that awesome?

You can do the same thing by going to their website today. It was so easy to install and set-up. It literally did take under 5 minutes like their marketing material explained. I am not an affiliate or getting paid for this post, it’s something I thought others like yourself may benefit from.

Do double check your cache settings as you may need to delete your cache to make it work as I later learned from my tech friend Mayura. Also check the plugin often as you do your other plugins for updates. Be sure to update all your WordPress plugins often!

Why Mobile Usability Now?

I love a quote I read from Ashley Faulkes of Mad Lemmings on his latest post on SEO:  (It came from SMMW).
tweet this oneTweet This: “The best place to hide a dead body is on the 2nd page of Google…@InspireToThrive”
I think this quote really says it all. If you are not mobile ready you may not appear on page one of Google in search even if you had before. You could slide down to page 2 or much further. For a small business that could make a difference between staying in business or going out of business. I’ve seen it before with previous algorithm changes Google implemented a few years ago.

Hey Lisa you’re are perfect about the thing that mobile usability is very important now for all the bloggers.

I have myself used the free version of WP Touch, but haven’t tried the paid version yet.

There are many plugins which are very popular when it comes to getting a mobile version of the blog.

With continuous changes coming in the SEO world, we need to adopt the changes as quickly as possible.

Lisa I’ll be soon trying to see that my blogs have a good mobile version. In future, mobile usability may become much more important. I hope to see many more posts on your blog regarding mobile usability and other aspects of SEO.

    Hi Lisa,

    1) Oh, no, not another plugin. But if that was your choice, I’ll keep my mouth (or fingers? LOL) shut.

    2) Most of the blogs don’t really get traffic from G (except for searches including blogger’s name) – It was quite amusing to see so many bloggers (I’m not referring to the commenters above) rushing to update their blogs because they were afraid not to lose their… close-to-zero mobile traffic from Google 🙂

    Have a great weekend, Lisa!

Hi Adrian, if you are referring to the Hello Bar, I installed it after reading Neil Patel’s post which recommended it. I fix the coding per your tweet, thank you! It does generate folks to sign up. More to come I’m sure!
Intereting how most don’t get traffic from Google, why is that you think?
Thanks for coming by Adrian and have a great weekend too, looking forward to some nice weather here forcasted.

        1) No, I wasn’t referring to Hello Bar, but to the plugin mentioned in the article 🙂

        2) How do I know that most of the bloggers don’t get traffic from Google?

For each keyword, there are only several entries on G’s first page and hundreds, thousands or even more competitors. Most of them… don’t get traffic. Simple math. And don’t forget that there are millions of blogs 😉

LOL, gotcha, WPTouch Pro – it really helped! I’ve been adding and deleting a few plugins the past few weeks. Still need to get the speed up. Interesting and I can imagine with the millions of blogs. I just checked my Google analytics and direct traffic was #1 followed by organic before social and referral sites. It does differ in my SlimStats – always drove me crazy to see different stats in different ways. Someday they will all match up I hope! Thanks for coming back to clarify Adrian.

    Hi Lisa!

I agree, making your website mobile friendly is very important today. The number of people using the internet through a smart phone is increasing. The easier you make it for the visitor to surf through your site on their mobile device, the better, and the longer they might stay on your site.

I am currently using a Mobile Friendly option from a premium theme, for my blog. It looks pretty cool I would say 🙂

Awesome post Lisa! .. very valuable for sure!

    Keep up the great work!

    I wish you the best!

    Cheers! 😀

  • Hi Lisa,

What a great post and something I don’t think about a lot. I’m not an avid internet user on my iphone which is probably why it hasn’t crossed my mind. Your post gave me a wake up call. Although I have looked at my sight online mobile I just basically made sure it displayed. I think I missed a lot of other things that made it mobile ready.

Great post and glad I stopped by. Definitely what I need to check thoroughly.

    Have a good week-end.

Thanks for sharing the infographic, I got some good tips from it.

I hope you’re feeling better and having a great week. See ya in the socialverse :).

Hi Corina, Oh yes, but I’m glad it is all working correct now and if you check your site on a Google search on mobile it shows (mobile-ready) on first line, pretty neat! I wish I could figure out screen shots on my new Droid. I will try again so I can post that as well for folks. Mayura is the best! You are welcome and I’m glad you did get some tips from it. I am feeling better, just waiting to see if I have nerve damage in my arm, still at PT 3x weekly. I can type about 30-40 minutes before feeling pain. It’s a good start, right? Have a great weekend aheaad Corina 🙂

Hi Lauren, that was the case for me but not Adrienne Smith. I am looking at yours now on my mobile and the only issue I see is I can’t go move from page to page from the tab on upper right hand side. I can from the homepage of your site but not the pages.

The pages themselves are not mobile friendly either, I cannot make anything larger, the text or images. I would check your WP Touch settings first before going premium. If it doesn’t you may want to go with the premium version. Good luck and let me know if you have any questions, etc.

Nice to see you back here 🙂

    Hi Lisa,

It’s great that you remind me. I won’t be doing anything at the moment. I have checked that my blog is ok, but I have some issues on some of the pages on my blog. But, I’ll start looking at them in a few weeks to see what’s happening with them regarding Google.

I have looked at WP Touch and it looks like an awesome plugin.

Hi Jens, that was my issue too prior to getting the WP Touch Pro. Like I mentioned to Adrienne there are so many settings between our themes and our plugins, it can be mind boggling. With it activated it made all my pages mobile ready. It was simple to set up. Thanks for coming by and I hope you have a great rest of the week Jens.

    Hey Lisa,

So the rollout is today and I guess only time will tell.

That’s odd that you’ve been using WP Touch’s free version but the only thing that was mobile ready was your home page. I’ve been using their free version for years and my home, my posts and my pages are all mobile ready. I’m scratching my head wondering why yours wasn’t.

I hate you had to spend that money but I’m glad that you got it all set up before the rollout. Not sure how this will affect my rankings since they haven’t changed in years. Not really worried about it actually but as you know, I just never want to be on Google’s bad side.

I think my next thing I should concentrate on are making sure my emails are mobile friendly.

Glad you have everything in place and are good to go. Thanks for sharing this information with us Lisa and have a wonderful day.

      Hi Adrienne,
It could have been how you have your theme set up and not just the plugin. I just looked at your site on mobile and it looks like mine as well but you have your posts page set up as your homepage on mobile. I had mine redirected to it. But the rest of your site looks mobile ready and mine did not prior. So many different settings too between our themes and plugins – it can be mind boggling!
You are welcome and have a great rest of the week Adrienne. We finally got our sunshine here 🙂

Yes, it’s just a matter of a few hours now before Google gets into action – being the 21st! So, all those who still have to make their blogs mobile friendly, shouldn’t delay.

I haven’t tried WPTouch as my blogs got a responsive theme, so not much of work for me, except making a few tweaks here and there now.

That works well on blogs, and that’s the plugin I use. However, I have three static websites and that just ain’t gonna fly. On one of them I’m stuck because it uses a menu script that a friend of mine created in 2003 and there’s absolutely nothing I can do with it so I can keep the menu, and I’m not up for paying to recode that part of the site, which probably can’t be done. The other two… one would need a total redesign… the other… I’m not sure yet.

Thing is, two of those sites have the blogs associated with them, so the question is whether the blogs are enough to help them out or not. Guess I’ll see…

Hi Mitch, true – it is for WordPress only. Do check out your Google Webmaster tools – they will give you a lot of info on those sites Mitch. See the image I shared? It shows exactly where to find in on your Google Webmaster tools. I hope that helps and that you can do tweaks though a website from 2003 probably will need a re-do. (Sorry!) Thanks for coming by Mitch and good luck with the sites.
