What is Quora: How Quora Can Help Your Business Grow

What is Quora? Quora is a question and answer website that has been around for over a decade. Today the Quora digests are very popular.

It’s where smart marketers and many other professionals go to find answers to their questions or to answer questions and share their knowledge.

It’s different than Google in that you receive answers from actual people. Users on the Quora network must sign up with their real names and identity.

So, if you have a question about Facebook marketing, for example, you can ask someone who works at Facebook.

Or, if you have a question about purchasing a new car you may get an answer from someone who works at Subaru for example. Users also collaborate by editing questions and commenting on answers that have been submitted by other users.

Asking Questions

Isn’t that a great way to build up some knowledge by asking questions? Or, if you have some knowledge why not share it with others on the Quora network?

Hubspot called Quora the “Most Underrated Platform of 2019.”  There is a lot of marketing that can be done by using the site in both asking and answering questions.

Many of these answers will show up on the first page of Google. Now, that’s some great SEO juice. You could use an AI tool like the Right Blogger to help you answer questions.

Quora also drives a nice residual source of traffic for your blog or website. What’s better than that, right? So now you know what is Quora and why I’m on it.

So, here are some tips on how Quora can help your business grow using this question and answer site.

Quora Audience Stats For You To Know

Did you know that Quora has a greater concentration of 18+year-old users with an HHI > $100K than other publishers such as WSJ, LinkedIn, HuffPost, and Reddit?

Not only that, but they are highly educated, with 65% having a college degree and 28% having a graduate college degree.

In addition, 54% report having an HHI > $100K annually. Stats from HubSpot.

How Quora Can Help Your Business Grow with Traffic

Quora can drive traffic to your website or blog. And that traffic is organic. People are searching for answers and they find your answer. Then they may click your link to read more.

(Note, it may take 6 months of answering questions like I did to generate this traffic. But once it came from Quora, it didn’t stop coming.)

It’s just like getting traffic from Google. Quora is a high-ranking site so it holds a high SEO value link. Now if you want to get more sales from your traffic be sure to check Anil’s tips to encourage that with your website traffic.

How Quora Can Help Your Business Grow by Positioning You as An Expert

People will respect you when you can help them with the answers that they need. I know I received a lot of questions about Twitter suspensions on Quora and several have followed my blog and Facebook page ever since.

Be sure to have your profile filled out correctly as it will always show when you answer questions. Your credentials are what is shown every time in your answers for the public to see on Quora.

Learn from Quora Experts in the Field

You can learn a lot from people that work at companies such as Facebook, Google, etc. What better way to ask questions about a Facebook page or Google than to someone who works there?

Learn from experts on Quora by following industry leaders, reading their responses, and asking targeted questions. Identify top contributors in your field and absorb their insights on trending topics.

Engage with their content by upvoting and sharing valuable answers on Quora. Use Quora Spaces to join communities and gain access to exclusive content from experienced professionals.

By actively participating in discussions and analyzing expert responses, you can develop a deeper understanding of your industry and enhance your professional knowledge.

Learn from Your Customers on Quora

So, if your business is on Quora and people have questions about your products or services, you are there to help them.

It’s better you are there to answer those specific questions rather than the competition. It can also give you ideas on what to blog about on your company website.

You can answer their questions in the form of a blog post or as a video.

Then, Learn from Your Competitors

You may also learn from your competitors on Quora. Read how they answer questions and how different their answers may be from yours.

Or, you may be able to expand upon the answers that they have written.

What is the Quora Digest?

The Quora Digest is a free service for all Quora users. You get notified of related questions that you might not see or have overlooked on the network.

You receive a top answer with the most views and upvotes in your inbox making it easier to quickly find the best answer to the question.

You sign up via email or through your Facebook account for the Quora Digest.

What is Plus Revenue Sharing?

According to Quora, a subscription program for Quora users to support creators, access more content, and unlock a premium ad-free version of Quora.

Subscribers pay $6.99/month or $47.88/year and can start their subscription with a 30-day free trial.

Revenue from Quora+ subscriptions is shared between participating creators. When a creator enrolls in the Quora+ earnings program, they become eligible to receive a share of the subscription fee paid by readers, based on engagement with their content.

The other option is for creators to write paywalled posts on Spaces, which are like user-created publications on Quora that you see like my blogging tips space.

How to Get Started on Quora for Your Business

As with any social media network be sure to fill out your profile completely.  Do include your image as people once again love working with others they know and trust.

Fill out your work and life experience. Then you are ready to ask and answer questions. Make it a daily 15-minute routine on Quora.

After several months you will begin to see some results with traffic to your website. The more complete your answers are with images and examples the better the answers will be seen.

Some people answer each question as they would write a blog post. (They can be that long.)

Next, be very careful not to leave links in every answer. You could become banned from Quora as Neil Patel had been years ago.

This network usually does not put up with spam on its network. Other times, answers may be moved or merged.

If Quora does slap you with any violation do inquire why. They will take them off if you are correct. (Been there, done that.)

Sharing Your Questions and Answers

To generate more views on your answers and questions on Quora share them. Yes, you can share them right on their network itself and out to the social networks.

Oftentimes, I will share mine on Twitter and sometimes on Facebook, depending on the topics. This will increase your views on Quora and generate more answers to your questions.

What Are Quora Spaces?

Spaces have been around since 2018 to let users curate collections and form communities around their shared interests and topics.

It’s a place where people can work together to answer questions. Some can start their own space and invite others to them. (It’s limited right now.)  But you can join other spaces there.

If you are a member of a space you can invite others on Quora to join that space. Therefore, these spaces are similar to Facebook Groups.

For example, you may join my Quora space called “Lisa’s Blogging Tips”. Not only do I share some tips but I share other content in this space.

spaces

Spaces are also the place where you can blog on their network. Sometimes, I’ll make a mini-blog post about blogging in this space.

Should You Blog on Quora?

Quora also allows you to do blog posts right on their network in spaces. But is it good for you to do so?

I recently listened to Ryan Biddulph on that subject. He explains like I thought, not to use it only for your blogging platform. Even in the URL, it would show as Quora first before your brand.

Therefore, a Quora blog is a rented space like on any other social network. Your own website is your home and where you should blog the most. Your own domain is a property you own.

However, you may draw people to your blog from these Quora spaces.

Ads on the Network

Did you know you can also advertise on the network for as little as $5 per day?

Not only that but you can optimize for conversions, clicks, or impressions, and see real-time reporting in the Ads Manager.

Not only that but there is an option for native ads on the site, that you may have noticed with “sponsored” on them.

  • Posts must be attributed to verified real names.
  • Team of human moderators and best-in-class machine learning.
  • Exclusion capabilities and only high-quality pages are ads eligible.

How Quora Can Help Your Business Grow

So, I hope you have learned how it can help your business grow for 2024 and beyond. It’s a great way to drive targeted traffic to your website or blog.

It adds SEO juice for you and you may also meet some wonderful experts that you can get to know on this question and answer network and elsewhere.

How to Delete Quora Account

Some people have asked how to delete their Quora account as they wanted to start over with a business account. Just be sure you don’t want anything from it before you try to delete your Quora account.

To delete your Quora account, first, log in to your account. Then, go to the “Settings” section. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on “Delete Account.”

Follow the prompts to confirm the deletion of your account. It’s important to note that once your account is deleted, you won’t be able to reactivate it or retrieve any of your content.

Therefore, make sure you want to permanently delete your account before proceeding.

  1. Hello Lisa,

Thank you for sharing such an explanatory blog on Quora. I was unaware that you could make money from Quora’s Partner program. Thanks to your blog, now I know how valuable Quora can be for my business and how I can generate revenue from the website by simply asking and answering questions.

    1. Hi Olivia, welcome to Inspire To Thrive. You are most welcome! I’m glad you learned a few things from this one. I just received $54.00 this month for asking questions that I would have otherwise Googled. It ranks #2 for traffic behind Twitter for me but I think it may go to #1 in 2022. Thanks for coming by and have a great day Olivia.

    Hi Lisa,

With this mornings Twitter Chat, this blog post and a few other references you have mentioned, one should have no issues learning how to use Quora.

I do have one question though. Out of all the different platforms available to leverage your business (social media, Quora, Triberr etc) if you were to focus on only one which would it be? and why? Ok 2 questions.

Thank you once again for sharing your expertise.

    SharlaAnn

    1. Hi SharlaAnn, thank you for being at the chat. Wow – that is a really tough question!! I’m not on Facebook much and don’t want to do more on Twitter. Triberr is okay but not great anymore. I do love Quora. And for social media, I’m liking the alternative sites now.
But my focus has been more on SEO of late. I think SEO would be #1 as it drives much more traffic than anything else. Even when I spent more time on the big social sites I was only generating 2-3% of my traffic from them. SEO has always been 80%+ in recent years. Referrals come in next. So, SEO is my answer. Thanks for that one SharlaAnn. It really is a simple answer after walking through all this!
(But with that said Quora and referrals help the SEO too!)

      1. SharlaAnn Matyjanka

Thanks for answering my question Lisa. There is so much out there that it is easy for a person to get lost in it all. I just about deleted my entire FB account not to long ago. I was so fed up with it. Unfortunately, there are groups on there that I need to be connected with such as our homeschool groups. So, I deleted my “friends”(and soon discovered this was the source of my frustration), my pictures, and am slowly deleting all old posts. A couple days ago I started to ramp things up again. This time with a very deliberate motivation and not as a young “dumbass” slinging crap. We will see how it goes.

I set up a Triberr account but I find it cumbersome to navigate. I like BizSugar. I haven’t spent much time there but I like that you don’t have to “join” anything.

I haven’t spent much time on any of the alternative social sites but with the way the world is I can see why people are navigating to them.

From your perspective I can see why everyone talks about SEO!

I’m off to write a blog post. Thanks for the inspiration.

        SharlaAnn

  3. I’ve been using Quora for many years, Lisa (I think around 10, already).
I joined the referral program, but since I’ve created just a few questions, I was able to make just a few bucks.
I do agree it’s a great place for interacting with people in your niche and market your content, through sharing your knowledge.
    Thanks for the post, Lisa!

    1. Hi Erik,
Yes, after a year on there I began asking questions and I’ve made some bucks this year for sure with it. Instead of Googling everything I “Quora” it. Google hasn’t paid me a dime for my questions. Thanks for coming by on this one Erik. I’ll have to look you up there. Have a great weekend ahead.

  4. Hi Lisa,

I really enjoyed your post. I have read many articles about Quora, and yours was one of the best. I still feel that even after decent exposure, Quora is still an underrated platform. You covered the breadths of the topic and made your article useful for everyone. I use Quora myself, but after reading your article, I found so many ways this platform can add value to my business. Thanks a lot for taking the time in putting together such an informative article. Looking forward to reading more of your work.

    1. Hi John, thank you. Yes, there are many ways in which you can use this platform. I like to ask questions and generate a little side income from that but the questions are genuine. Instead of asking Google, I ask Quora; I’m so glad you enjoyed this post. You are most welcome and have a great day. See you over on Quora!

  5. Hey Lisa,

Signing up for a Quora account is a great way to promote your business and start building authority in your industry.

Quora is the perfect opportunity for you to show people that you can solve their problem. That will help your business in a number of ways.

One of the most powerful tools to connect with an audience as a business owner is to talk directly to them. That means helping people solve their problems.

Solving problems is never about selling though, it’s about helping. That’s what Quora is good for.

Eventually, thanks for sharing your wonderful informative thoughts with us.

    With best wishes,

    Amar Kumar

    1. Hi Amar, Yes, I do love that part of Quora. When I ask questions about Google I can get answers from someone that works there or like your say in other instances the owner of the company themselves. Helping others is key! You are most welcome and have a great day Amar.

  6. Hello –

Great stuff. I was trying to play around with this recently and the answer I provided was removed. So I’ll work on not dropping a link every time.

When you do actually put a link, how do you go about it? Do you answer the question and then say “to find out more on this…”, Or how do you make it seem less ..”link buildy”?

    Much appreciated!

    1. Hi Chris, I do both ways for the links but I only insert links in about 10-15% of my answers. I’ve been very careful and haven’t had any answers/links removed or in question for months now. There was a time I had to request why they pulled them. I won the cases but it all took time. You are welcome and good luck on Quora Chris.

  7. Hi Lisa,
As you know, I’m an avid Quora user. I’m still trying to figure out the right “formula” to avoid being called a spammer! I win as many appeals as I lose.
I agree with the benefits you listed for Quora, so much so I’m surprised to hear it’s been called “underrated.” Thanks for letting people know about this site that’s powerful on so many levels.
    Janice

    1. Hi Janice, yes – I do see you there almost daily. I haven’t been called for spam in a while but there was a time I was and I usually won the appeals. I don’t put in links too often. Maybe only 20% of the time. I was afraid after seeing Neil Patel banned from the Quora site several years ago.
Thanks for coming by on this one Janice. I hope you have a great day and a wonderful new year ahead!!

  8. Hi Lisa,
I started using Quora last Spring and again this Fall. It’s a great way to get website traffic and attract new followers to your website. Whenever I ‘google’ a question, Quora comes up on the first page quite often. I just hope that Quora doesn’t get too controlling with building links on their site.

    1. Hi Justin, welcome to Inspire To Thrive. Yes, isn’t that interesting how Quora answers come up on Google when you Google something? I agree, about them being controlling with the links. I’m so careful not to be in many, maybe in about 20% of my answers. Have a great day Justin!

  9. I really like Quora, Lisa. Like the simple interface when writing answers and the elegant content editor. No bells and whistles, just superb formatting and brevity as the norm of (good) answers.

However, I ditched it for a moment because I’m focused on ranking my site for certain queries and topics. I’m almost there but it’s my site that need my un-divided attention at the moment.
    Where your attention goes-it grows!

But I’ll get back to Quora when I can. It can be a valuable source of traffic.

    1. Hi Nikola, it is simple once you use it. I see you are writing everywhere these past few weeks Nikola. You are right, where you spend your energies is where you will see results. Have a great day and holiday week ahead. Thanks for coming by on this one!

  10. Philip Verghese Ariel

    Hi Lisa,
Great share, a lot of things to pick on the BIG Platform called Quora!
Yes, I have been using it since the time of Google’s Knol and almost all of them there recommend this space to interact for better results. and I joined long back but was not an active member, but on a later stage, I came to know about the greater possibilities Quora provides for its users.
Now I could pick a lot more from this post.
I never knew about Quora’s Partner Program.
Thanks for the share with lot of information to follow.
    Best Regards.
PS: I found this post curated on the pages of BizSugar and I up-voted and commended.
    Thanks
    Philip

    1. Hi Philip, Yes, I think many joined and wasn’t sure of what it could do for their websites or businesses. Many people seem not to know about the Quora Partner Program including myself a while back. Thanks to Dexter for pointing that out to me.
Thanks for your shares on this article Philip and have a wonderful day and holiday ahead!

  11. Lisa: I didn’t know about Quora’s partner program. I have to check it out for 2020.

    All the Best,

    Martin

    1. Hi Martin, I didn’t either until I learned it from Dexter. Interesting, isn’t it? Thanks for coming by Martin on this one and have a wonderful holiday ahead!

  12. Lisa,

Great tips here to nab Quora’s popularity to grow any business. But, it’s true as Mudassir said, there are spam contributors who just copy-paste or steal other’s ideas to just build backlinks. One should value the flexibility offered by any platform or service. If not, then the guidelines would get stronger to stop such spammers.

    1. Hi Jessica, welcome to Inspire To Thrive. Thank you. I agree, no matter where we go, Facebook, Twitter, etc. there is alway some spammers trying to get backlinks and more. That is why we must have our own websites as our homebase. Thanks for coming by Jessica and have a great day.

    2. Hi Jessica,
I think the guidelines are too strong! I’ll tell you why. I genuinely want to help people on Quora and take my time to do so, yet, the powers that be or the bots over there consistently label me a spammer which is demeaning. Seeing people write much shorter answers than mine that pass scrutiny when my answers don’t is really a morale killer.
      Janice

      1. Hi Janice, Do you think it’s because of the links you use in your answers? It can be frustrating when you are genuine and they still consider your answers spammy.

  13. Hey Lisa mam ,

Great post with great information about quora. I really like your post and also the points that you have listed out.

Quora is an amazing question and answer website that help many users and readers to get ideas, knowledge and answers to their relevant question, whereas quora also allows for blogging and share their knowledge. whereas quora helps in business growth and glad to know that quora also helps to make money by using quora partner program. Using this quora will helps a lot to grow the business.

As this post will help many people and readers to use quora.

Really helpful post and thanks for sharing.

    1. Hi Aadarsh, welcome to Inspire To Thrive. Thank you. Do you use Quora often yourself? I really like it for both asking and answering questions. It’s great to get answers from folks that say, work at Facebook or Google. Thanks for coming by on this one and have a great day!

  14. Hi Lisa,

Nice to see you write about Quora. I have been using it for my business since 2014. When I joined I used to spam a lot on it by putting multiple backlinks in one answer and writing thin content. Not to mention, I lost 2 accounts within a year of time. However, I did stop doing that with time and sense. Now, I learned to add only valued answers: be it a few lines or long. And most of my answers rank on the top positions too.

You must agree, the game of marketing has not always been fair. Most competitors simply report our answers if we get in the top position. The more the reports the higher chances for Quora to delete the answer even if the answer has not violated any of its guidelines. However, as you mentioned, I had to reach to Quora to get back those answers and I got them too. We would be having a good chance to get our answers back if we wrote them with high-quality content, well structured and with fewer links. Plus, the ‘Wiki edit’ option that comes before the answers section is even horrible, your competitors would be changing the links every single day.

Still, there are millions of spammy answers ranking on the top with no. of links, affiliates and low-quality content. It was kinda Okay in earlier days, but now it has become difficult even for the Quora team to monitor all its content and users. Since the backlinks are no-follow, we can write the answers with the motive of becoming an influencer by helping others or to get relevant traffic to our business websites.

Sure, the Quora platform helps for any business, we just have to make sure to give what the reader wants, rather than thinking about what we want out of it! Again, thanks for writing about it, it sure helps!

    1. Hi Mudassir, Thank you. I guess there are spammers everywhere online and I think Quora is getting better about spotting them and eliminating them. I agree with your point about thinking what the reader wants and not what we want out of it. That really says it all in a nutshell Mudassir.
Thanks for your input on this one about Quora. Enjoy the rest of your week.

  15. Hi Lisa,

Thanks for the shout! Never use Quora for your blogging exploits; buy your domain and hosting for that. But as for driving traffic, increasing your credibility and also, getting endless post ideas, use this platform via Lisa’s sensational tips, guys. Quora is a goldmine for building your blog and business.

    Ryan

    1. Hi Ryan, you are very welcome. l love your point about getting endless post ideas from Quora. Thanks for the input on this Ryan and enjoy your evening!
