Not only do they save you time but in some cases even money. There are energy-saving IFTTT app recipes. I learned about IFTTT a while back. Many years ago Susan Silver posted about IFTTT is a contributor post here on Inspire To Thrive.
My favorite IFTTT recipe is sharing photos from Instagram right onto Twitter.
I love that IFTTT automated recipe! Once it is set up it is so easy to use. Finally, you just have to be sure the IFTTT app is set up on your phone. (You only need to do that once).

IFTTT Automated Life Contest
Back in 2015 IFTTT held a contest. They awarded ten winners for sharing their productivity app on Twitter.
It was a great way to get more people interested in using IFTTT to automate their lives.
What Happens When IFTTT Smart Life Is Not Working?
Once in a while, a recipe may not be working. In the 7 years, I’ve been using this productivity app only a half dozen times something went wrong. It usually was an Instagram post that did not show on the Twitter stream.
But IFTTT Smart Life sends out an email if there are any problems with the app to warn you.
Oftentimes, you may just have to adjust your settings in IFTTT to the apps that are connected to it like Twitter. For example, the authorization may need to be reset.
Turning off IFTTT Automated Life Recipes To Stop Automation
Don’t forget in a major crisis to turn off automation you may have set with IFTTT for social media posts. For example, I turned off my IFTTT quote maker during the Covid-19 crisis as I was concerned about the wrong type of quotes going out the first few weeks during the crisis.
Now, I’ve just reconnected it, it’s easy to do! You just have to remember to do turned off your IFTTT automated life recipes if events warrant it.
What Other IFTTT App Recipes Can You Use?
There are many forms of automation through this app. Some are for marketing and social media and others are for your daily home or office life. Both can save you a lot of time and or money.
Other great IFFTT apps are:
- Post what you publish on Medium to Tumbler.
- Post new YouTube videos to Twitter.
- Sync your new Instagrams to a Pinterest board.
- Text your lost Android phone to turn up the ringer volume 100%.
- Get an email digest of tweets from a specific area, your local city or town, etc.
- Remind yourself to put on sunscreen when the UV index is high.
- Create a monthly playlist of songs you like.
- A new tweet by a specific user sends a Discord message.
- Turn your lights on when you arrive home or at your office thus saving you money!
What Are Some IFTTT Competitors?
There are several IFTTT alternatives out there today such as:
- Zapier – the most well-known alternative to IFTTT today.
- Microsoft Power Automate – great for Microsoft business users.
- Integromat – made for businesses.
- Automate.io. – similar to Zapier and made for businesses.
- Zoho Flow – the cloud-based app for businesses.
- Tasker – Made for Android devices.
IFTTT does, however, offer more choices for home applications than the competitors at the moment.

Hi Lisa Ma’am,
I’ve heard IFTTT first time ever since I’ve engaged with blogging. While reading this article, I came to know that what exactly it does. However, every other social media sharing tool is time saver but I am very keen to know about this tool as well.
Thank you for yet another informative post.
Regards,
Mohit
Hi Mohit, I’m glad to hear you at least heard about it. It’s really a cool tool and a timer saver for some things as well. Thanks for coming by! Have a great new week!
Hi Lisa,
I have heard about IFTTT. It is very handy to save most of time that we spend on sharing our contents on social media. I use buffer to share my content on social media sites. I do not know much about this tool.
Would you please suggest me any article that could get me full review of this tool?
Thanks for sharing.
Nikhil
IFTTT will connect the apps that you love. A tool that’s very painless to use to make most of your time. These are really great tips. This was a good chance for others to share their experiences. Thank you for sharing these kind of useful tips for others. Keep posting.
I have never heard of IFTTT but it seems really cool. Almost like you can automate everything in your life. I really like the one where you can turn off all the lights when activating sleep mode on scout. Or where you can send out automated texts messages. I will definitely have to look more into this. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Lawrence, I hadn’t til about a year ago. It is really cool. I’ve been using the one that sends me a sunscreen warning when the UV’s reach a certain level. It’s really cool. Thanks for coming by and love to hear if you experimented with any IFTTT automated recipes. Have a wonderful day.
Hey Lisa,
Thanks for sharing this reminder about IFTTT. I keep telling myself that I’m going to implement but i never get around to it. I can see that it’s a great time saver and tool that I can add to my arsenal of automated tools. This tool is definitely great for me and those who are on a time crunch with their blogs and businesses.
Thanks for sharing!
I found your post on kingged.com under Social Media/Automated Life
Hi Sheman, you are welcome. The same with me until I learned how to share the photos from Instagram and then I started looking at other recipes and using them. I’m really liking this one! It can definitely be a time saver as well as money saver and energy saver. Thanks for coming by Sherman and have a great day!
Hey Lisa,
I’ve always heard about IFTTT but never actually used it for anything. Reading through your post, I’m seeing all of the great functions that it could have and how automated it can really prove to be. And realistically, having things automated really saves a lot of time.
Awesome stuff here. I’m going to start really using IFTTT.
– Andrew
Hi Andrew, me too for the longest time. But once I got it and used it, I love it! I must learn to create some recipes too. It really can save time, money and even energy with some of those recipes. Let me know which is your favorite once you use it Andrew. Have a great rest of the week and thanks for coming by!
IFTTT will connect the apps that you love. A tool that’s very painless to use to make most of your time.
The simple conditional statements called ‘recipes’ are also interesting. A must try tool if you look for something that will help you conserve your effort and money.
Additionally, IFTTT is running a contest. The contest of #AutomatedLife tweets runs through July 23, 2015.
Hi Metz, I like that – a tool that’s very painless to use to make most of your time. There are so many recipes too. Thanks for coming by and sharing Metz.
Hey Lisa,
Do you remember that time that I tried to get Bing set up on my blog and it would never accept my link? It was last year or maybe by this time even longer than that.
The reason I brought that up is because it’s the same issue I’ve had with IFTTT. I’ve tried that site about three times now and I can never get the darn thing to work. Now I might not be that great with everything but I can follow darn instructions. Every time I set something up it never posted. There are only a few ways to go about doing this so I finally just gave up.
I had been told about this site by so many people and was just really furious I couldn’t figure the darn thing out. I guess we can just count me out using some programs. They just don’t like me I guess. LOL!!!
Good luck to everyone.
~Adrienne
Wow Adrienne, what were you trying to do via IFTTT? That sounds so frustrating. Did you reach anyone there in customer service?
I had that happen once on some social bookmarking site years ago and it was frustrating for sure. Love to know if IFTTT could help. Good luck and thanks for coming by on this one Adrienne.
Hey Lisa,
It was just the setting up of it. It’s been awhile since I’ve looked at it but you know setting up to send things out. I had an issue with it posting, it just wouldn’t post and I did go to customer service but they couldn’t seem to give me an explanation. I had set it up properly but they just failed to go out so I just deleted the account and moved on.
I’ve had a few things happen to me like that, it’s all set up right yet it just won’t work. Bummer!
~Adrienne
Hi Lisa,
I’m going to have to check out this tool. I’ll have to go back to Susan’s post and learn more about it.
I enjoyed reading the tweets your shared from other people who use IFTTT. Definitely sounds like something I can use.
Hope you’re having a great day! Have a great week Lisa :).
Cori
Thanks Corina. Which was your favorite? I like some of the energy saving ones. Many are automatic so they are easy to do. I got my sunscreen warning today, it was cool. Try the Instagram one, its easy. So far the week is starting out well, hope yours is. Thanks for coming by Corina!
I have to try the posting from Instagram to Twitter and sleep mode features. I like to fall asleep with the light on. That would save energy for sure.
Hi Corina, have you tried them out yet? I’ve been getting the UV alert on my phone, it’s really cool cause I forget to put sunscreen on and I really need it on my scar so it will heal better. Have a great new week.
Hi Lisa,
I make use of IFTTT AutomatedLife Recipes and its definitely a time saver. The recipe of sharing WordPress contents to Facebook and other social media platforms is my favorite. Its now a way of life to me!
I left the above comment in kingged.com as well.
