How to Use the New Twitter Layout to Secretly Rock Twitter

Do you like the new Twitter layout?

Several years ago, I was away on a Viking River Boat Cruise. I looked at Twitter with my morning coffee and one morning a blogger named Vishwajeet asked if I liked the new Twitter layout.

I looked down and around on my mobile device and didn’t notice any difference.

They had been some minor Twitter changes before I left that I started poking around with on the desktop version.

So, when I returned home, I opened my desktop and begin tweeting.  I started noticing the look and arrangement of my Twitter profile and feed.

Then I started finding new Twitter features that were useful that were never there before. You would have needed 3rd party tools to open these types of statistics prior to these updates. Now, learn how to switch to the new Twitter layout for yourself.

Then I started finding new Twitter features that were useful that were never there before. #Twitterupdates Click To Tweet

How to Switch to the New Twitter Layout

Go to your profile and settings. You will see it available there for you.

One of the things I really got excited about was finding out where people were grabbing my content to share on Twitter.

Yes!

Before this, you might find some of it in your Google analytics or via a third-party app that may have cost you money. No more now!  (These apps no longer work with Twitter API and many went under or changed direction.)

How to Find Out Where the Tweets Came From

When someone tweets your blog post or content and it shows up in your stream as they tag you open it up. Open it up all the way. It will now show you them like this:

  • Triberr,
  • Buffer,
  • Agorapulse,
  • Viral Content Buzz,
  • Twitter for iPhone,
  • Also for Android,
  • Twitter Web Client,
  • Zest Community,
  • Hootsuite,
  • iftt.

There may be more depending on where the tweets originated but I love this new feature!

Now you know quickly and easily how other peeps are sharing your content on Twitter.

Click on the above tweets to open them up and view the original source of the tweet, sweet isn’t it?

This will help YOU decide where to spend your time to generate more tweets and RT’s of your own content.

How to Find Out Who Is Following You on Twitter or Not!

This feature really got me excited! No more 3rd party apps to know who is following you on Twitter!

Twitter followers

Now, open up any user that is in your stream and you will see if they are following you and if you are following them. Not only that you will see who else they are followed by 🙂 A great way to gauge your Twitter followers!

Another tool I use for this is Agorapulse. I love their scheduling and reporting tools but I’ve noticed in their monitoring tools things like this:

Below you can see the top tweets and who they came from.

Isn’t that a nice feature to have right in your Agorapulse dashboard? Sometimes I can do Twitter right from there along with my other social media networks!

How to Use the New Twitter Layout

By using the new Twitter Layout and not opting back to the old Twitter layout you will get more familiar with it. However, many people do not like change but these are really good changes!

The profile header is now 1500 pixels across and the profile pictures are now 400×400 which is bigger than before. If you have an older one, Twitter already resized it proportionately for you.

Another noticeable Twitter layout changes are the area in which things can be found. What may have been on the left side is now on the right side, etc. Take a peek around!

How To Your Display to Find Things Easier and Quicker

Another new Twitter Layout feature is the display is found in your settings.  You can make your font bigger, change styles and colors.

Customize your Twitter feed for your own taste and liking. The lights out feature are great for nighttime reading on your mobile device 🙂

How To use the Explore Feature for You to Keep up-to-date with News

Now, another new Twitter layout feature is the explore tab. These show you locally and internationally the latest talked-about news on Twitter. If you want to view breaking news use the hashtag #breaking.

Twitter is all about the news. It’s called the news social network.

You will also see topics based on your usage/hashtags. Very cool to find the most popular tweets about your niche.

Your Twitter Analytics Are Still There on the New Twitter Layout

Yes, you can still see your Twitter analytics. Just click on the More button on the button left-hand side of your Twitter profile. These analytics still provide you with great information to help your Twitterness rock.

Media Studio for Twitter

This feature is for your live video. From there you can manage, schedule and clip live broadcasts on Twitter. You can create clips from the most relevant parts of your live broadcasts and generate buzz around your content by Tweeting directly from Media Studio.

Have you tried this Twitter feature yet?

In Conclusion of How to Switch to the New Twitter Layout

    Hello Lisa,

The update is designed to make it easier to move around Twitter. Most noticeable change is the organization and layout of the Twitter home screen itself, which you have explored here very nicely.

With the update, the new navigation menu includes – Home, Explore, Notifications, Messages, Bookmarks, Lists, Profile and more will surely enhance user’s experience.

Thanks for sharing you amazing information with us.

    With best wishes,

    Amar Kumar

    • Lisa says:

Hi Amar, it sure does make it easier to use Twitter now. One thing I figured out yesterday with going back and forth with someone tweeting is threads. They were hard to find but now you can look above their profile and see a little line. When you click on it you can see the original tweet and then you can respond back. It took a while to figure that one out! You are most welcome Amar. Thanks for coming by and have a great weekend.

Hi SEO Services, what is your name? Next time this would end up in spam without a name. But you mentioned mine so I allowed it. Yes, I love the Twitter Analytics and they recently just updated them too. Enjoy the info! 🙂

  • Moss Clement says:

Hi Lisa, Did you know that I didn’t notice the changes to the new layout? Yes, I didn’t know about it until I read Simon Zaku’s tweet. Then I went to check things out. What fascinates me is the feature that shows where tweeps are tweeting your content from. It reveals those who are really supporting your marketing efforts.

  • Ileane Smith says:

Hi Lisa, I have used the Twitter Media Studio and you will find all of your media there from past Tweets. Images, Gif and videos can be stored there too. It makes things super easy to retweet something you shared before with new text!
One downside of the new layout is for people who use Twitter Moments. They are really hard to update (you have to know where to find them first) and based on that change I don’t think Twitter is showing much love to those Moments we have curated over the last couple of years since they were introduced.
Thanks for the post Lisa! Happy tweeting.

    • Lisa says:

Hi Ileane, Nice to know, thank you 🙂 Oh yes, those moments have not been too easy to use or do. I would agree that Twitter may even phase those Twitter moments out. You are most welcome and have a marvelous Monday Ileane!

  • Bren Pace says:

This is fantastic, Lisa! I noticed mine updated a few weeks back but haven’t noticed on mobile yet. Maybe I better take a peek! When the beta version came out and didn’t really care for it. But now that I’ve used it, I’m liking it more and more. The extra features are a major plus! Thanks for sharing this! I have Twitter open in another tab and I’m going to tweak it a bit more. 😉 Happy Monday!

    • Lisa says:

Thank you Bren. Correct – not everything is on mobile but if you open the tweets up you will see it, I double checked after reading your comment here 🙂 These Twitter features are definately a major plus in my book! You are welcome. Best of luck tomorrow, Bren. I will be thinking of you!
