More Twitter Followers – Are More Followers Proven Useful?

Twitter (now called X) has over 360 million users worldwide, making it one of the most promising social media platforms for businesses looking to attract and retain customers.

Social media followers, especially Twitter followers, are more than just numbers; they represent a community that can be leveraged for brand building, marketing, and customer engagement.

If you want to get on Twitter (X) or are already on the platform but haven’t been intentional about getting more followers, this article is for you. I will discuss the significance of more Twitter followers for businesses and how you can get highly relevant followers on the X platform.

The Importance of Twitter (X) Followers to Businesses

Importance of Twitter (X) Followers

The more followers you have on Twitter (X), the easier it is to reach your target audience and increase conversion. There are many benefits businesses can gain from having a solid presence on Twitter.

Here are some of them:

Enhanced Brand Visibility and Awareness

Twitter followers expose your brand to a broader audience. With a large follower count, the chances of your tweets appearing in the timeline of those who don’t follow you increase.

When your followers engage with your content, it appears in their followers’ feeds, potentially reaching a wider audience.

Retweets and comments by followers and non-followers also cause Twitter’s algorithm to see your tweets as valuable and worthy of reaching more audiences. This causes it to push your tweets to more people’s timelines, increasing your brand’s visibility and awareness.

Customer Loyalty

Loyal customers are valuable assets to businesses as they become repeat customers and proud advocates of your brand.

Building a strong Twitter (X) community fosters a sense of loyalty among your followers. When you regularly dish out valuable information, respond to queries, and interact with your followers, it strengthens the bond between them and your brand.

Market Research and Feedback

Twitter followers can provide valuable insights into customer preferences, opinions, and feedback. Monitoring conversations and conducting polls on social media platforms with a large user base, like Twitter, can help businesses understand market trends and adjust their strategies accordingly.

The more Twitter followers you have, the greater your chances of getting valuable product or service information and feedback. A well-crafted poll or tweet can get your followers to reveal vital information you need to improve your products or services.

Real-Time Communication

Twitter (X) is a platform where businesses can interact with their target audience in real-time. This is essential for timely announcements, promotions, and addressing customer concerns promptly.

Many businesses leverage Twitter for effective conflict resolution and communication. Information spreads fast on X; therefore, how you handle communication and conflict resolution on the app determines how many customers you can attract.

Credibility and Authority

Building Twitter followership isn’t a walk in the park; you can’t do it without consistently dishing out value. People only follow accounts they find valuable.

However, once you’ve built a large Twitter following, you have more social proof to attract more followers. Some people will follow you because of your large following on Twitter.

Constantly sharing relevant and valuable content relating to your niche is a great way to build credibility and attract followers with similar interests.

Opportunities for Collaboration and Partnerships

Brands and industry influencers often search for accounts with a significant following to partner and collaborate with. When done correctly, this could mean more visibility, an increased customer base, and revenue for a business.

7 Strategies to Get More Followers on Twitter (X)

Strategies to Get More Followers on Twitter (X)

Here are seven key strategies you can leverage to get more followers on Twitter (X):

1. Optimize Your Profile

An incomplete and unappealing profile can discourage X users from following you. One of the common things you will observe about Tweeps with a huge following is that they have a well-optimized profile, clearly stating who they are and what they do.

Therefore, to get more followers on X, you must create a profile and properly optimize it with a clear profile picture, a compelling bio, and a link to your website or other relevant resources.

With catfishing and bot accounts littered all over Twitter, a well-optimized profile will set you apart from others and give your brand a well-defined identity.

2. Share Relevant and Useful Content

The quality of your tweet is another factor that attracts followers to your profile. If your tweets are relevant, engaging, and valuable to your target audience, they can help your growth on the platform.

Focus on creating high-quality, relevant content that resonates deeply with your target audience. Answer questions they’re desperately seeking answers to, add high-quality images and videos, and use polls and hashtags to increase engagement.

Popular tweeps like Kim Garst, Madalyn Sklar, Kim Kardashian, and others understand this, and that’s why they were able to grow their accounts to hundreds of thousands and millions of followers.

3. Post Visual Content

Visuals thrive on social media, as humans are more receptive to them than any other sensory medium. Research has shown that the human brain processes visuals faster than text.

This shows why most tweeps can’t make a tweet without adding a visual to drive home their point.

Also, Twitter has an image and video search filter that enables users to filter out text-based content when searching for tweets that contain visuals. Adding a high-quality visual to your content makes it more appealing, provides better context, and leads to higher reach and engagement.

4. Post Consistently

One of the most effective strategies to grow your X account is to show up consistently, even when you don’t feel like it. Inconsistency in posting can lead to a decline in visibility and engagement.

Establish a consistent posting schedule and ensure you adhere strictly to it. You can leverage tools like TweetDeck, Hootsuite, Sprout Social, MissingLettr and more to create an extensive content calendar and schedule your tweets in advance.

Consistency proves to your followers and their followers that you’re credible and enables the algorithm to show your tweets to a broader audience.

5. Engage with Others

An effective Twitter (X) marketing strategy involves consciously interacting with others to arouse their interest in your brand and products. Posting without replying to comments or retweeting comments might make you come off as proud, uninterested, or unaware of your followers.

This reduces your growth as most followers would unfollow, and other users would be hesitant to follow.

You must actively engage with your followers and non-followers by responding to comments, retweeting relevant content, and posting user-generated content.

Also, participate in Twitter chats and spaces, as they give you more opportunities to interact with and attract your target audience.

6. Use Hashtags

Hashtags are essential for visibility on most social media platforms, and Twitter is one of the places they’re most effective. Today I only use one per post. I recommend no more than 3 on X today .

Research and use relevant, trending hashtags in your tweets to improve their visibility.

When you tweet relevant and valuable information and back it up with relevant hashtags, it reaches your target audience faster, leading to increased followers.

7. Run a Campaign

Another way to attract more Twitter (X) followers is to run a campaign. Posting mouth-watering deals and discounts will get your followers retweeting for others to take advantage of.

This pushes your tweets to more people’s timelines, leading them to check you out and eventually follow you.

Also, you can leverage Twitter Ads to increase visibility. Twitter Ads enable you to target specific demographics and interests, ensuring your tweets are only shown to your ideal target audience.

How Does the X (Twitter) Follow Limit and Ratio Stop You from Getting More Followers?

Twitter has a daily follow limit of 400 and an account follow limit of 5,000. Once you reach those numbers, you may need to wait until your account gets more followers before you can follow additional accounts.

This limit can significantly impact your follower growth strategy, as some followers can be impatient and unfollow you once they notice you didn’t follow them back.

However, there are a few ways to get around this limit, such as unfollowing accounts that don’t follow you and following a gradual growth strategy.

Frequently Asked Questions on the Significance of More Twitter Followers

How do beginners get Twitter followers?

To get Twitter followers as a beginner, start by optimizing your profile, posting relevant and valuable content specific to a target audience, following relevant accounts, engaging strategically with their posts, and tweeting consistently.

You can also promote your X account on other platforms, participate in Twitter chats, leverage trends and hashtags, and optimize for search.

How often do you need to post on Twitter to get more followers?

According to Hootsuite, posting 2–3 times a day is enough to keep your brand’s presence active and engaged on Twitter. And the more active and engaged your brand account is, the better your chances of attracting more followers are.

While Twitter has a daily tweet limit of 2,400, nothing else prevents you from tweeting as much as you want. However, you must also consider your followers and the fact that tweeting multiple times a day might make them miss out on important information.

Does posting every day increase followers?

Yes, posting every day can increase your followers on Twitter. Social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc., require you to show up daily to retain your followers and attract more.

Social media algorithms favor consistent accounts, showing them to a broader audience, which leads to increased following.

What’s the advantage of having Twitter friends?

Twitter friends are those true followers who constantly engage with your tweets and reach out if you don’t show up for a day on the platform.

They’re those followers who have become fans and can do anything to see your brand succeed.

Which Twitter follower count is better for you?

The more Twitter followers you have, the more your target audience can find you.

However, you must understand that having a 10,000-follower count of your ideal target audience is better than having over 100,000 followers who don’t share similar interests with your brand.

How do you track who follows and unfollows you on Twitter?

No specific Twitter feature enables you to track who follows and unfollows you. However, you can track who followed or unfollowed you by going to your profile and checking through your following and follower lists or use a tool like Fedica.

Your new followers appear at the top of the follower list. And if you go through your following list, you can see those you follow who don’t or no longer follow you.

Alternatively, if you know someone who used to follow you, you can open their profile to check if they still follow you. If they do, you’ll see “follows you” right at the top of their profile, but if they don’t, you won’t see that text.

Do Twitter followers determine reach and engagement?

Many factors contribute to the level of reach and engagement an individual or business can get on Twitter. Factors such as the quality of content, consistency in posting, timing, use of hashtags, use of visuals, and paid promotion are significant contributors to reach and engagement levels on the platform.

While these factors are great, your number of Twitter (X) followers can also determine your reach and engagement. When you make a tweet, especially without a hashtag or paid promotion, it’s visible to only your followers.

The number of followers you have now determines the reach and level of engagement you’ll get on the tweet.

For example, if you have 100 followers, and they all retweet your tweet on X, the tweet automatically becomes visible to their followers, increasing your reach.

If it’s an engaging tweet, your followers’ followers can also engage with it, causing X’s algorithm to see the tweet as valuable and show it to a broader audience.

Increase Sales and ROI with More Twitter Followers – Conclusion

A large Twitter following can mean a lot of things for your business. It can lead to increased visibility and brand awareness, more effective Twitter marketing strategies, and, most importantly, increased sales and ROI.

You can attract a huge Twitter following of your ideal target audience by consistently posting relevant and valuable content, engaging with your followers, and running mouth-watering campaigns.

Hopefully, you’ve learned the importance of Twitter followers to your business and great strategies you can leverage to attract more followers.

  1. Hello Lisa,

Actually, this is correct! Having 100 true followers can dominate the power of thousands or millions random followers in terms of spreading your message to the masses.

While having a big count can earn us some impression but the relevant true followers have their special worth.

For me, I actually would want to engage more. I have less Twitter following but results wise, man! they are awesome!

Thanks for the great content! You know what I am going to do next? Share! 🙂

    ~ Adeel

    1. HI Adeel, thanks for commenting. I noticed you have a high Klout score too and not a lot of followers but they must be TRUE relevant followers! (Interesting!) Thanks for sharing too Adeel and have a great rest of the week!

  2. Hi Lisa,

At the end of the day, I think that having more followers is always best, because at the very least it gives you social proof. Now if your followers are dead bodies they are not of much value at all, besides that.

Once in a while I go in and unfollow inactive people.

Now having fewer followers that are really engaged is great.

    Good points 🙂

  3. Hi Lisa,

Very interesting. I find it fascinating the philosophy behind the strategy. The problem is the examples given were of people who have the great followers like celebries. I wonder if people are following them because of their ‘tweets’ or because of the following itself and it doesn’t mention how incredibly hard it is to get that many followers.

Although I use Twitter and have what I think is a significant following, I don’t get much business from there. It may be the social proof factor that you describe or my inconsistency in Twitter but I find I am inconsistent as I don’t get much business. A catch 22. I actually do get engagement with a number of people although I haven’t counted to see what percentage it is. I do understand about Twitter momentum as well and it is a factor, but it’s just not so easy to get there. It would be helpful to obtain steps to do this besides someone on Twitter trying to sell us ‘twitter followers.’ I think I had at least 20 of those today. 🙂

    Anyway, great info.

    Barbara

  4. Hi Lisa,
Nice analysis on twitter followers. I myself think 10 engaged and dedicated followers ar far more better than having 200 non responding followers.

I have accounts with over 28000 followers with zero engagement while a share on my personal account always gives me 1 retweet and good link visits on an average. Needless to say my personal account has less than even 800 followers.

Yes its true that a sense of authority peeks in if you have a large number of followers and people just follow you for that but again its useless in terms of conversions.

    1. Hi Swadhin, thank you. Yes, that can be true but you need a higher amount of followers to get that 10 special engagers too. Do you not engage with those accounts with 28,000 followers? Engagement is key for sure. Thanks for coming by and have a wonderful day Swadhin.

  5. Not only with Social Media or Content Marketing I guess it’s obvious for almost every case that quality > quantity. And that applies for Twitter too.

As you pointed out not to get into this numbers game, engagement matters. And I believe unlike Instagram Twitter will / must flush the fake profiles too, to make the web more genuine.

    1. Hi Sourav, good point! I think Twitter has flushed quite a few out. I haven’t seen spammers on Twitter much lately like I used to. There would be a lot of egg heads or spammers tweeting you their links before getting one follower or they did NOT follow anyone but just tweeted links to everyone. I would report those. Thanks for coming by and commenting. I hope you have a great new week Sourav.

  6. Martin Lindeskog

Lisa: I have been struggling with Twitter’s follow limit rule for some time. I think that the 80/20 rule will play along here to. I am focusing on my core followers, friends and business contacts, but I am also interested in reaching out to new tweeps.

    1. Hi Martin, welcome to Inspire to Thrive. Do check out my free eBook on Tweeting Like It’s Second Nature, it may help you with that. It’s free when you sign up for email here. Do you also make use of lists? I find that extremely helpful when focusing on certain groups on Twitter. Thanks for coming by and commenting, enjoy the rest of your weekend too!

  7. Hi Lisa,

I am not a great Twitter person, but I just had to check how many followers I had as I started reading this post. To my surprise it is almost 3K.

But I only engage with a few of the people. I tweet out posts I read, sometimes chat here and there, but never exactly got my game on with Twitter. I know how powerful it is but I think I will take it more seriously when I start using it as a marketing platform.

Right now I am engaging with other bloggers. Everything we do we have to plan. I have that plan on Twitter as a to-do for a later time.

For me less is more. I like the up close and personal approach right now.

    -Donna

    1. Hi Donna, yes, you could not engage with all 3,000 – imagine how much time that would take? Are you on Triber? That’s a great platform to use with Twitter too and meet more bloggers in your niche. It takes time too though. I have so many interests and I do use Twitter for most and I have my personal account and a handle for this blog as well. I just love Twitter! Thanks for coming by Donna and I hope you have a great rest of the weekend.

  8. Shobha Ponnappa

    Hey Liza,

I guess we need a mix of both – engaged and numbers.

From personal experience, when you have a decent following in terms of numbers – you do attract the attention of the influencers. People who have a large following follows you back when you follow them back.

Ofcourse these are just numbers, but the strength of your followers do make your network stronger.

I do agree with Tim though, you do need atleast 100+ engaged followers at the very least and you should network with them often to make all of this effort worthwhile. It is all a process and requires more than just one direction, networking with your followers will get you more retweets and favorites while having a strong following by numbers will attract more followers.

PS. Congrats for crossing 10k followers

    1. Hi Shobha, welcome to Inspire to Thrive. Yes, I would say both are a good mix to have. I think you really got it and doing both does certainly help on Twitter. Thank you. I appreciate your coming by and commenting on this one, have a great rest of the weekend!

  9. I completely agree with the article about 100 Twitter followers.
The followers that you gain at the beginning are true followers because they really follow your updates. Once your follower count reaches thousands, other people follow you simply because you have a high follower count.

In my opinion, having a few followers is much better than having tens of thousands of followers.

    1. Hi Arbaz, Thank you. I still think we should strive for both so your content can get spread further into Twitterland and online. The most chances you have of getting a retweet, a fav or a share. Those are great to get. The 100 are also valuable because they are always there for you, like good friends. Thanks for coming by and commenting on this one Arbaz, have an awesome day!

  10. I thinks having thousands of good followers is better than 100 followers. If 300 of out of 1000 re-tweet our tweets then think about the scenario. The result could be way better than 100 followers. This is my opinion though.

    1. Hi Lucy, I think so too in most cases. The point too is that of the thousands of followers we need 100 true followers, ones that will engage, retweet and tweet your stuff whenever you publish something new. Having thousands of non active followers is of no value though. It may look good as social proof but we can’t judge books by their covers only, right? Thanks for coming by Lucy and welcome to Inspire to Thrive! Have a great day.

  11. Okay, I’m going to explain the concept of “fewer” versus more, but from a different perspective.

Back in either 2002 or 2003, Chris Pirillo wrote about the concept of having 100 true fans. The belief is that true fans will go out of their way to promote you to everyone they know, and if any of those folks are their fans they’ll promote, and exponentially the word will get out because of those original true fans.

Where it breaks down on Twitter is the assumption of true fans for most of us. For the almost 4,000 people following me I might have 5 or 6 true fans, folks I can count on to share a lot of my stuff. However, I’m unsure how many of them have true fans on Twitter because there’s a lot more sharing than folks being social.

So, each person has to determine whether they want big numbers with the possibility one’s tweets are shared by more people or fewer numbers where you might get more engagement. Of course there are some rockstars like Marji J. Sherman who’ve figured out the engagement part while being able to handle large numbers of connections, and those are the types of folks we can learn great lessons from.

    Wow, that was long! 😀

    1. Hi Mitch, That is a great explanation. I would say mine (true followers) is under 100 and guess around 25. I think having both together on Twitter is optimal. Are you also on Triberr? I find more folks there too who always share and interact as well. You can never be too long Mitch 🙂 Thanks for taking the time to respond here and share your explanation as well. Have a great rest of the week and see you back on Twitter.

      1. First, it seems I don’t get notifications that you’ve responded to my comments; stuff never works for me…

Second, I’m not on Triberr and don’t foresee it happening.Over the years I experimented with lots of things like this and found all of them either lacking, irritating or time consuming. I’d rather do my strategies of Twitter, blog commenting and writing, and now Flipboard, which I’m growing to like a lot! 🙂

        1. That’s odd Mitch, I wonder why? Others do. Even I do. You got me puzzled 😯 That’s too bad, I really like Triberr but you would have to keep your niche narrow there. I like Flipboard too and noticed a traffic uptick from it on my Google Analytics this a.m. It’s amazing how many new things come along that can drive traffic to our sites. Thanks for coming back and responding Mitch. I hope you have a great new week ahead!

  12. Hi Lisa,

Twitter is my favorite social media site.

I have seen a spike in my Twitter followers lately, especially local news anchors and a celebrity – which I think is probably an error. LOL And while that is a cool feeling, I have to agree that a smaller following is more authentic. Thank goodness for tools like Twitter Lists to focus on the true followers. Which reminds me I need to update :).

Great post Lisa! I hope you’re feeling better. Have a great week!

    Cori

    1. Hi Corina, me too as if you hadn’t noticed 🙂 That is cool- just go with it. Maybe the realize they need bloggers too. Yes, I do love those lists. I’m coming along and will return to work end of June. Enjoy the rest of your week!

  13. Hey Lisa,

I also agree that as soon as you reach a certain number of followers the people just seem to naturally start following you without you actually having to do much at all. I recently hit the 10,000 mark myself and I haven’t done anything to help with this in years. I know, they just keep coming.

I have been through my list though and I have no idea why some of these people are following me accept I just guess they think I have something interesting to share. I agree with you about just really needing a smaller amount though. They are the ones that will support you, interact with you, share your content and help you along the way. They’re the ones we chat with and have built relationships with.

Now it’s always awesome when someone that’s an authority tweets our content because that helps us be seen more but it doesn’t last so stick with the ones that will be there for you and you just can’t go wrong my friend. I’ll always be on your list Lisa and you on mine. 😉

    ~Adrienne

    1. Hi Adrienne, yes that is so true. The followes just keep on coming no matter what you do in most cases. Some follow because of the following you have, others may like your profile or niche. Some could use automated systems. The fans are the best Adrienne 🙂
Very interesting point Adrienne, even though it may gets lots of attention it doesn’t last long or stick as you say. Yes, you are on mine always too.
Thanks for coming by and for your input and interesting point on this one. I hope you have a great rest of the week.

  14. Hi Lisa,
I have no doubt that more Twitter followers can snowball into large reach for the blogger.

The most important thing is for the marketer to carve out the most effective means of optimizing the Twitter account for effectual result.

There are followers and there are true followers. Hence, every blogger must develop a strategy to reach out for true followers.

This comment was shared in kingged.com as well

    1. HI Sunday, I think that’s the best way to explain it Sunday, snowball effect 🙂 I think each niche is different too and the way they use Twitter can be more personalized for it.
Thanks for coming by and sharing this one. Have a great day!

  15. Hi Lisa,

I think the best of both worlds is awesome for the reasons stated above. Social validation is BIG deal but so is an audience that can help drive the message and a large and engaged audience can do that.

I have two pages, one that is my name and one that is in Unveil’s… between them I’m approaching 5,500. Everyday I’m engaging with new bloggers and business leaders. It’s been a phenomenal experience!!!!

I’m looking forward to engaging more on the platform. I think I’m really leaning towards it and LinkedIn as my two top social sites.

I hope you have an awesome week Lisa!!!!

    ~ Don Purdum

    1. Hi Don, How do you use the two differently Don? I have two as well, my own with over 10.1 followers and Inspire to Thrive with just over 2000. The Inspire to Thrive is very tight niche of this blog and my own is this blog PLUS other interests like weather and local stuff, etc. I find Twitter is the best place to meet new people both professionally and otherwise. I’ve been friends that we get together monthly for lunch. It’s very cool!
Thanks for coming by Don and sharing your input on this one. I hope you have a great week as well.

  16. Jens-Petter Berget

    Hi Lisa,

I’ve always thought that the more twitter followers we have, the better it would be for us. More twitter followers = more traffic and more engagement etc. But, lately I’ve been thinking a bit different. To me, Twitter has become a traffic machine, but I’d really like it to be more of conversations and engagement. I’d like to write short messages, get feedback and give feedback and a way to connect with people.

I’m not sure if this is easier with just 100 followers or not, but it sure sounds easier to connect with people who are dedicated to what you write about. On the other hand, we can create lists and add the “most interesting” people to the list and this way we stil have control as if it was just 100 people following.

Very interesting topic and great post Lisa.

    1. Hi Jens, not always so but mostly so for the reasons in the post. I think if you want more engagement you have to engage with others and new folks too on the Twitter network.
I love using lists for that reason Jens, I could never keep up otherwise with things on Twitter.
Thank you Jens and I appreciate you coming by and have a great rest of the week there.

  17. It doesn’t mean that if you have lots of followers, they are useful. You need to give relevant information, you need to have posting tricks to drive your followers to your website, to click share, retweet or favorite.

You should make sure that your followers are your target market. Continue to give your posts value and consider your followers at all times. Use your social media influence appropriately.

    1. Hi Metz, that is true. It depends on the quality of them and if they share your stuff as well to their followers. Great point to use the social media influence appropriately Metz. Thanks for coming by and have a great day!

    2. Hi Metz, that is true. It depends on the quality of them and if they share your stuff as well to their followers. Great point to use the social media influence appropriately Metz. Thanks for coming by and have a great day!

  18. Hi Lisa,

I don’t think that “more followers = more engagements and more reach” – quoting one of the commenters above. Twitter’s rules are simple, but Twitter marketing isn’t that simple. Each and every day users having tens of thousands of followers quit Twitter. Guess why!

I remember when one of my articles was shared by Noah Kagan having 20k followers at that time and a no-no bio (i.e. hi* <= this is his Twitter bio). 66 clicks from one single tweet. Then the same article, the same tweet, shared by a lot of people via JustRetweet – including "big" guys – their aggregate result was worst than that one got via one single tweet. Or articles shared by "influencers" having 100k+ followers and getting zero or one click, while the same articles got way more clicks from little or average guys (little and average refer to the number of followers).

Well, marketing is a numbers game indeed, but there is more than this. It's not only numbers. And it's not only engagement. Share quotes all day long and you'll see nice engagement. Then promote something unrelated – your latest SEO ebook – and see what happens.

It's way more complicated than "more followers, more bla bla." Well, don't ask me, "Then what's the secret?" Since I don't have results like Noah and others, it means that I don't know the secret yet. For the moment I know a lot of facts though. Several were mentioned in this post 🙂

    1. HI Adrian, Oh yes, I see that daily in my Nutshell mail, those that stop following – mostly because I don’t follow them. I used to notice many followers stop following when I tweeted a lot and they were newbies. I must have flooded their streams back then.
Yes, it can vary depending on the niche, the type of tweet, etc as to how many retweets, favs, etc are being made.
There is no one secret sauce to success on Twitter, it is varied but we know more today what works than we did a few years back (at least I think we do…)
Thanks for coming by Adrian and sharing your input with examples here.

  19. I have made it a point not to follow every single person that follows me. Some get mad and quit following, most don’t. I have never bought followers. I get people that follow me all the time and I look at each profile. If that profile looks like a BOT, which most are easy to tell, I block them. If they have the majority of their tweets saying things like “increase your twitter followers here” I report as spam and block them. The ones I follow back I send a tweet to them thanking them for following. I also usually visit their website and make a comment or tweet out one of their articles.
Right or wrong, I’m not sure, but that’s what I do and I can honestly say that the majority of my followers are organically gained, natural followers.

    1. Hi Bob, welcome to Inspire to Thrive. I am with you on that one. I see those that quit via Nutshell mail and it’s no loss to me especially ones that are there to sell Twitter followers. Usually the egg heads or ones that tweet out a link to you who you never met are bots
You can always check your handle on this site too to spot the fakers .
I’m with you Bob, I try to stay 99% organic on Twitter. That is the best way.
Thanks for coming by and taking the time to comment today, have a great rest of the week Bob!

  20. Happy Monday, Lisa! Fabulous post!

I remember when I first started Twitter and wanting oodles of Followers. I used to just chit chat on Twitter with friends and then blogging engulfed my life along with other social networks. I miss the good ole days of just holding conversations on Twitter and am trying to bring that back for me. I have almost 2000 followers on Twitter now and although I am grateful for those, I have to look at how many are “True Followers”. Those buy followers tweeps and others that are just like spammers and such are harder to weed out. They may be following me, but I am not following back. The one thing I noticed with having more followers is it is hard to keep up. When I scan my feed it’s a gazillion links to other sites and blogs. I know it’s good for marketing however we also have to watch out for those hackers, right?

I don’t know if having more followers is a good thing or not? I mean, it looks good to have a large following but does that mean we are interacting with them or just sharing links and retweets?

I love to hear what your readers will say. Thanks for shedding light on this Lisa!

    1. Hi Brenda, oh yes I do remember those days we had long chats along with Mayura 🙂 I don’t like those spammers who buy followers, I never follow them. Remember the Twitter audit? https://www.twitteraudit.com/ it can tell you how many are real, I used to get 1% fake. I can live with that and there is nothing we can about it. That’s the beauty of Twitter though, you can follow anyone. You can’t do that on other networks. So we have to deal with a few trolls along the way.
I think it is a good thing and of course we can’t interact with all of them, we’d be on Twitter 24/7. But if we can interact with at least 100 or so that would be awesome and as long as the rest would re-tweet or fav our stuff, it would be ALL good. Thanks for commenting Brenda and have a great evening.

  21. Hi Lisa,

    That sure is all true.

Getting the first hundred is an ordeal on Twitter I guess, but then they just multiply SO fast. I am about to touch 10K soon myself, and I check each profile before I follow back – that’s just what I do and if they are the kinds who have a large following with common followers you generally follow back. Of course, the friend list keeps adding up, as there are lots who join in from Triberr, JustRetweet, and other such sites and they are the common faces you interact with daily.

I agree that having a few targeted good number is better than the huge following, but if you can strike a balance between the two, nothing like it. We could use lists and separate the friend’s from the rest easily to interact more with them. Reminds me of the recent guest post on my blog about Twitter, if you read it too.

Thanks for sharing. Have a nice week ahead,

    1. Hi Harleena, an ordeal is a great word for it! They do multiply fast as you gain more. It just takes time and some newbies quit Twitter thinking they are getting nothing from it, such a shame! I agree – balance is KEY here Harleena. I love using lists – they make it quick and easy to find things. Yes, I did and it was great. You are most welcome and enjoy your new week and Happy June Harleena!

  22. It’s easier to understand equation that- more followers = more engagements and more reach (like 2+2=4), no doubt about that! But, you need to take care that you have the majority of relevant followers only. Here, the only numbers are not working properly for social media marketing!

People are also looking ‘who are your existing follower’ when they are going to follow you. It’s also a human nature that they loves put their eggs with reported persons. Isn’t it?

    1. Hi Majharul, oh yes and you have no control over who follows you really. (You may have some by sticking to tweeting relevant content). It certainly is human nature Majharul, but I sometimes will follow a small following peep if they have a clever bio, profile pic and great pinned tweet. It can make a difference.
Thanks for coming by and commenting. I hope you have a great new day, week and month!
