How To Use X Twitter To Make More Sales Online
People are shopping online more than ever before. Furthermore, most of the searches for products or services start with a mobile device. People are out and about with their mobile devices and when they need something their turn to search.
Others are on social media looking for reviews and asking questions of their followers about products and services.
eCommerce A Few Years Ago
Over 10 years ago now I maintained an eCommerce website. It was for a medical scrub company. I built the site through Stores Online. It was a cookie-cutter type of website but they offered 24/7 tech support.
However, I learned invaluable knowledge from this experience. The website was maintained by me for several years. I quickly realized one could not sell items from a website without some digital marketing.
Meanwhile, I did some Google AdWords and display ads. A while after that I began to blog. Blogging can help you to make money online. Blogging is really a must for any website today.
At this point, I hooked up to social media to network with others in the medical field. I set up a separate X Twitter account for the eCommerce store.
X Twitter moved fast and how I could connect easily with others quickly. On Facebook, you had to know people to connect with them back then.
At that time my personal X Twitter handle was a big experiment and learning tool. The best way to learn I believe is by doing.
How X Twitter Changed eCommerce
Quickly I learned I had to share valuable information with the medical community in order to sell some scrubs. I began to converse with some regularity. Shortly in a few months, I had the biggest medical scrub order via Twitter.
Next, I had connected with a doctor in Texas who loved the NCAA scrubs that were offered on the website. By quickly getting his email via Twitter DM’s (direct messages) he then purchased the biggest order ever on the eCommerce site. This is how I feel in love with the power of Twitter.
That’s how I learned to use Twitter to make more sales online.
Now today in 2023 I still generate business with Twitter though it’s changed in the past year. For a month or so, traffic dropped from Twitter but it’s picked back up again. However, I am using Twitter Blue as a test.
I’m so disappointed in my fav, #Twitter. After so many years of hard work here, I feel like I’m losing ground by the day. Anyone else moving backwards suddenly? @Lisapatb @AnthonyGaenzle @GrowMap @amabaie @AmandaRicksBiz @southbaysome @JenBridgesRD @millercathy @DIYMarketers
— Sue-Ann Bubacz (@SueAnnBubacz) April 8, 2023
Lol, so my numbers going to the site went up last 2 weeks but followers not. Try:
— Lisa Sicard 👩💻 (@Lisapatb) April 12, 2023
✅ Tweet a lot (15x a day) can be retweets, etc.
✅ Participate in Twitter Chats
✅ Follow a few relevant people
✅ Mix up your tweets, not all links, etc.
✅ Update your bio or pinned tweets.
Do You Really Think X Twitter Is Not Relevant Today?
Someone said precisely that a few years back while I was in digital training. They said that “no one used Twitter anymore.” It was late in the day and I had a 2-hour ride home so I didn’t dare speak up. (I wanted to say is that why the news starts with what was tweeted by who, etc? )
But it really got me thinking, is that what some people think today in 2024? I understand not everyone loves X Twitter and more people are on Facebook.
Many people are not sure how to tweet or post on X and use this fast-paced social network.
The Real Value Of Twitter
I was quickly reminded by our instructor of the value of Twitter. The unseen value of Twitter is because Google likes Twitter and shows tweets in their search feed.
Imagine having your tweet show up on Google when someone is searching on Google? Google still gets over 90% of all search traffic today. Google is still the place to be seen although new search engines have gained popularity in 2021.
The one important thing to remember about Twitter is this:
Twitter is Google friendly. Facebook is not Google friendly. – Lisa, Inspire To Thrive
So use Twitter to make more sales online as tweets show up in Google search! Google your name or business and you will see exactly how it works.
Why Is Google Friendly So Important For Twitter?
It is important because Twitter gives your eCommerce site or blog SEO juice. Tweets show up in Google search. Any links back to your site will be indexed by Google.
Search Engine Land covered this Google change in their 2015 post when Google started to have access to the Twitter data feed.
Google does not like Facebook. They are at war for internet share and advertising revenues. A Facebook post can not be found on Google search as is the case with a Twitter tweet. Of course now to reach a lot of people on Facebook you must pay to play as Ryan Biddulph says.
Facebook can work well if you pay for their ads. You have to keep up with all their Facebook changes or hire someone to do it for you.
Twitter – you just tweet and engage. Rinse and repeat and you have a winning formula. Of course, it takes time to happen, don’t expect results overnight. Use Twitter effectively and consistently to make more sales online.
Social Media In eCommerce Today
Social media plays an important role in marketing today. You really can’t afford to be hiding from it. There are several folks who still hide from social media today. They do not want any of their info out “there”.
I think it may be out “there” whether or not they put it there today. Wouldn’t you rather put your own info out on the internet instead of someone else?

I love using Twitter. Of course, to be on there all day would be hard for most of us writers and bloggers. However, with the right tools, buffers, hootsuite and others, you can really make an impact on Twitter.
I didn’t use to care much about twitter and all I did was automatically share blog posts from my own blog. How selfish was I?
Now, I share tons of content from others, along with my own as it’s all about the sharing is caring philosophy we learned way back in pre-school.
Hi Benjamin, welcome to Inspire to Thrive. Oh yes, Benjamin, you’ve caught on to Twitter! That is the correct way to do. But do you know I often see big bloggers still only retweeting my tweets if it’s their tweet I’m sharing? Really? I don’t understand it. If someone tweets my stuff or retweets it I usually like or or take more time and engage with them. It just seems a little selfish to me.
You seem to have found the correct way to do it. Have you generated sales via Twitter?
Thanks for coming by and have a wonderful day.
Lisa,
Yes, I have seen quite a bit of the retweeting of the tweets that include only stuff from those deciding to retweet. I try to keep things balanced and make sure I am sharing plenty of other things other than just having the selfish attitude that it has to be all about me.
While I have not seen sales specifically from Twitter, I am working towards it. I just recently started launching my own eBooks, so hopefully the sales come soon!
Hi Benjamin, I could not find you on Twitter – I also checked your blog and your shares did not include your Twitter handle. What are you using for your share tool? It looks like add this? By the way I do love your blog, great topics.
I got started back on Twitter years ago when I ran a retail website for selling medical scrubs. They biggest sale came from a Dr. in Texas from a tweet. That got me hooked on Twitter. Keep at it! You will see results as long as you don’t give up.
Thanks for coming back to clarify. Have a great day and let me know what your Twitter handle is, tweet me at @Lisapatb or @InspireToThrive
Lisa,
It looks like we are following each other on Twitter. Mine is @behing19. I use AddToThis as the sharing plugin for my blog. While I have had the blog for a long time, I tore it apart about a year ago and just got started back at it earlier this year. However, I didn’t start taking it super serious until about a month ago when I really wanted to expand upon my calling/passion/purpose in life.
I have known for about a decade that I am meant to be an author. I used to be a bartender, but freelanced at a writer for clients until I turned that into a full-time career. Over the past 7 (nearly 8 now) years, I have written for clients with an urge to build something of my own online. I tried a million things with little success because they were all about money and not about my passion.
Now, I blog my passion, which is helping others grow into better versions of themselves. I finally realized that I had to take what I said to one of my best friend’s seriously. About two years ago, my best friend was going through training to be a life coach and I was his guinea pig. We talked about how I wanted to write a book and I told him I didn’t care about the money. I told him if I inspired just one person to become a better version of themselves and truly find joy, it would be worth it.
Took two years to really let that sink in and take me over, but now I am on the right path working towards something very real. Since taking what I aid to heart and working hard at my passion, I have published 5 eBooks with many more coming and have finally learned to let the money be secondary.
Twitter has become one of my tools along the way and I am still learning, that’s for sure. I also throw in Triberr because it’s a great tool for us bloggers to really build a community of people willing to let us connect with their community.
I can see how a big sale would get you hooked on Twitter. I am using it to grow my audience and as you said, the sales will come. I will continue to concentrate on creating great content with my voice and let money be the by-product that shows up when it’s the right time.
Thank you Benjamin. Know I know how to find you there on Twitter. That is AWESOME how you helped someone and now you are on the right path. I think once we don’t care about the money – it happens. We find our passion and it will eventually lead to money on it’s own time. Thanks for sharing your story here. I’ll have to invite you to some of my tribes on Triberr too. That is a great tool. Have you tried JustRetweet? That’s one is really good now too. More and more folks are using it and quality folks! If you haven’t used it – check it out too. Thanks for coming by and sharing your story here Benjamin.
No. I have not tried JustRetweet, but I am going to have to sign up for it. Any way to get the word out and connect with more like-minded bloggers is good with me.
Hey Lisa,
Great post.
Twitter is one heck of a tool to use for business, isn’t it?
And if used strategically, it can be a powerful sales tool. And you used it brilliantly to connect with that doctor, Lisa.
\What I didn’t know is how much Google actually loves Twitter and has a rocky relationship with Facebook. That is certainly interesting. But as much as people want to spend on FB ads, etc. they should also put in a good effort on Twitter. Just like you did. And when you do things like that, you get rewarded.
– Andrew
Hi Andrew, I sure think so! I love Twitter. Yes, many people don’t realize that. Twitter has more SEO juice than Facebook even though Facebook is the “big” guy on the web. Yes, Twitter has certainly been rewarding for me Andrew. Thanks for coming on over and enjoy your day ahead there Andrew. See you back on Twitter.
Hi Lisa,
I really missed this informative post, today I found it on twitter shared by Erik.
You covered almost everything about this tiny little bird but a BIG Social media. Yes, indeed it is really worth using for all people especially bloggers like us.
The only thing I hate about twitter is that one cannot make any correction once it is tweeted! LOL.
Sometime back I heard that they are going to consider this option, but sad they are still sticking on to their old version but they provided another provision in the DM box, the limit is increased. That is indeed a good thing, but sad, again some frequent automatic messages irritate everyone I suppose.
Thanks for sharing a lot about this tiny little social media.
May you have a great August ahead.
Best
~ Phil
Hi Philip, You’ll have to sign up for my email newsletter. I only send 1x weekly if you are interested. I agree with you corrections. They were talking about an edit button this year, I’m still hoping.
I don’t like those automatic DM’s. I miss good ones because of so many bad ones.
You are welcome Philip, I’m enjoying so far travelling this week in Canada.
Thanks for coming by and for your input on this one. Have a great day!
Hello Lisa,
Social Media is a great place to promote our stuffs and services. It helps us to target a large audience. Twitter is my second favorite Social network after Facebook. I must agree with you that if you are operating a eCommerce site than social media sites plays a great role and Twitter is one of them . Thanks for this detailed and informative post.
Have a great day.
Vishwajeet
Hi Vishwajeet, welcome to Inspire To Thrive. Do you use both Twitter and Facebook regularly? I’ve made more sales for eCommerce and services via Twitter over the years. It really has amazed me and how many don’t use it fully. Thanks for coming by and for your input here. Enjoy the rest of your day.
Hello Lisa,
Excellent information.
Online shopping is all over the world, hardly there would be any left overs who are not going to get online products.
I have seen how retailers are closing down. It feels sad how they old shop in our locality, which was running through the
time we used to buy candies, shut down couple of months back. The old man has no options to shut it down, because the sales
where not up to the mark.Yeah with this digitization people are hit worse.
I love twitter, it provides all that utilities that can help our blogs, business to get more expansion. I didn’t knew that
Twitter is Goggle friendly.
Thanks for providing the confidence to continue with Twitter.
Shantanu.
Thank you Shantanu. I agree, it is sad to see the local shops gone, they were eaten up by the big retailers. Now the big retailers are getting eaten up by the online stores.
As you know I love Twitter too. It’s been amazing for me in business and in making friends from all over the world. Yes, and I’ve been reading Google may purchase Twitter. Not sure if I like that or not but if they can keep them running, I’m for it!
Thanks for coming by and have a great weekend Shantanu.
Hi Lisa,
Valuable Information!
Yes, online shopping is picking a great pace all over the world. The role of mobile devices in online shopping can’t be ignored as people use it for surfing more than ever.
There is a lot to learn from your ecommerce journey.
Twitter helps in connecting quickly it’s my personal experience.
After reading your article no one can say that twitter is not relevant today.
I will tweet your post.
Thanks a lot for sharing.
Hi Manish, thank you. I have been looking at digital reports for clients recently and the amount of traffic on mobile to desktop is like 80/20 – it really amazed me. I sure did learn a lot on that journey, better than any college education. I don’t understand though why Twitter is not gaining any new users – I was listening to CNBC on the radio yesterday on the Twitter stock and quarter results – it is such an underdog on the stock market. I’m cheering them on to do better going forward. I’d hate to see them ever go away! Wish I had enough money to buy it myself.
Thanks for coming by Manish and have a wonderful weekend ahead.
Hey Lisa,
I have been using Twitter for a long time and I can say that it’s one of the best platforms.
It’s lucrative if your tricks are unique.
Making more sales: I do that all the time.
I am going to gain 20K followers in a few days and it’s going to be awesome.
Thanks for the info.
~Ravi
Hi Ravi, oh yes – you must be unique there on Twitter. Good for you on the 20K followers. Between Twitter and LinkedIn Ravi you are really rocking it out there! Thanks for coming by and taking the time to comment today. Have a fabulous Friday and weekend ahead.
Twitter offers people a great way to make connections. This is true for people and businesses as well. People gravitate towards twitter when they’re looking for people to share themselves with and if you know how to use it to make real connections, it can really help move your business forward. For example, today I connected someone who loves one of the same bands I do. These interactions are fun and you never know where they may lead!
HI Joy, oh yes, I love that about Twitter. It is so easy to meet others and connect there. I find it harder to do that on Facebook and I feel like I’m in a fishbowl on Facebook with family and friends. That is so true about where those relationships may lead. Take for example Donna Merrill – I met her years ago on Twitter and blogging and I’ll be heading her way for vacation and will stop in to chat with her in person. It really is amazing! Thanks for coming by Joy and have a fabulous Friday!
It’s truly amazing how the world is really connected. I know what you mean about the Facebook fishbowl – in fact, that’s why I have Facebook – to stay connected with friends and family. I find that some of my online friendships originated from Twitter and now I noticed that Instagram is kind of the same way. Those platforms are both a little more open and global. Interesting observation, I never realized!
Hi Joy, glad it’s not just me with the Facebook. I really like Instagram too but not as much as Twitter. Thanks for coming back to share that one with us here.
Hi Lisa,
As you know, I’m getting back on the Twitter platform and already it is working so well. I had to make a little more room in my day, but it is so worth it. I love Facebook, but you sure do have to pay to play. I didn’t realize Google likes Twitter and not Facebook. Hmmmm
I did pay to play on Twitter with an ad and it did so well, it surprised me.
Thanks for all the confidence you give me when it comes to Twitter.
See you soon,
-Donna
Hi Donna, I’m glad to hear and see you are using it more. I’m sure you’ll be doing video there too. It’s easier than ever to do video on Twitter today. Oh yes, that is huge – Google search results could show your tweets and it’s SEO juice too. I’ve played a little too with Twitter ads. I hope they come out from being the underdog with their stock and gain some new users soon. You are most welcome Donna. Yes, I’ll be heading your way in a week, can’t wait to see you.
Hi Lisa,
I always come to your blog when I need to know something about Twitter.
I had no clue that you could see your tweets in the Google search engines.
That’s nice to know. I guess just like anything else online, consistency is the name of the game.
Thanks for this useful insight on twitter.
Susan
Hi Susan, Aww, thank you! Yes, imagine? They are there. Consistency is part of it for sure and sticking with it. Don’t give up too soon. I appreciate your coming by Susan and taking the time to comment. Have a great weekend ahead. It’s almost here.
Hi Lisa,
Some friends I spoke with couple months ago, I asked why I hardly see them on Twitter – but they’re always on Facebook. Some respondents say they love it at Facebook because it drive more traffic to their site.
However, after discussing with them about the potential of Twitter, I saw a few of them on Twitter and when asked about how it’s going for them on Twitter? They said “thank you bro, they didn’t know they can get leads from Twitter because everything happens so fast.
Well, for me Twitter is my primary social media marketing platform. And with this amazing post, the unseen value of Twitter will become more visible to all – helping social media marketers to take advantage of it and grow their business(s).
Thanks for posting.
Moss.
Hi Moss, LOL. Yes, I’ve heard that too. If everything happens fast on Twitter didn’t they realize the leads could come fast too? I’m with you Moss, it’s my primary place to go but I won’t rely 100% on it as we never know what will happen. I wish I had enough $$$ to purchase it. You are welcome Moss. I appreciate your coming by with your input and have a great weekend ahead.
[ Smiles ] Hmm. You really have me thinking deeply today.
Since Twitter is Google friendly, we might as well exert our efforts more into Twitter than Facebook.
Hi Renard, I would say to excel on Twitter but don’t leave Facebook either – it’s still the biggest player out there. I’m amazed how many don’t realize the value of Twitter though. It’s the underdog! Thanks for coming by and have a great rest of the week Renard. See you back in the Twitterverse!
Hi Lisa,
You are right
“One could not sell items from a website without some marketing”
In today’s world we can sell products without marketing,
I am running a E-Commerce website I never tried twitter for marketing and promotion.
I never thought that twitter could also be used in this way for sales.
you post has showed a new direction thanks a lot.
Regards,
Ratnesh
Hi Ratnesh, Welcome to Inspire to Thrive. Your comment ended up in spam but I noticed your profile from Twitter.
Yes indeed Twitter can certainly help you market your website. What do you sell? Just don’t do push marketing on Twitter, that will not work. But connect with folks who would like and need your products and you will accomplish that. Love to hear more about your products. Thanks for coming by and have a wonderful day Ratnesh!
Hi Lisa
Awesome post! I’ve always seen Twitter as kind of the ugly little sister, who is not as charming and powerful as the big sister. Big sis being of course, Facebook! But your post has really opened my eyes to how powerful a medium Twitter is, and the endless possibilities it offers. I’m particularly intrigued by the fact that Twitter is Google friendly, and Facebook isn’t. That is so amazing! Who would have thought?
Thanks for sharing. (Off to share on Twitter (where else?)
Best regards,
Pedro
Hi Pedro, thank you. That is correct – Twitter has some additional SEO Google Juice. It really is a power medium that many still don’t understand or use enough to know. I’m glad you liked this one and that it was helpful. I appreciate your coming by to comment and share. Have a great rest of the week Pedro.
Hi Lisa,
Twitter is my favorite social network which can be used for various kinds of promotions. It will generate unlimited opportunities if you have good online reputation and reliable followers strength on the social site.
I appreciate the tips you have shared in this post. They’re very useful for the business, marketers as well as bloggers.
Thank you.
Have a nice week ahead.
Hi Manoj, Me too! How long have you been using Twitter? I was on for a year or so before I really began to use it. Once I realized how easy and fun it was there was no stopping me. I sure hope they can make a turnaround on their stock so they will be around for a long time to come. You are welcome. I hope you have a fabulous Friday and a wonderful weekend ahead.
Hi Lisa,
You know I love Twitter. Maybe I just like shortcuts, but I have always found it easier to come up with 140 characters than a longer social media post.
However, I do find it a little harder to engage because it moves so fast. Finding a niche – like you did with the scrubs, or a group of like minded Twitterers (like you mentioned in your Triberr article) makes Twitter much more powerful.
Hi Neena, Me too! I love how fast it can be tweeting than posting on any other social network. It’s great for conversations too. Yes – a niche is what you need to create there Neena. You are doing fine from what I see in your tweets. Thanks for coming by Neena and have a great day. (Do you have more than one Twitter account?)
Great Post. Twitter is really a powerful medium to promote the business. And yes, Twitter is Google Friendly. Google’s SERP shows some of the interactive results from Twitter but not from Facebook.
Anyways, Thank You, Lisa, for sharing it. Got some new perspective towards Twitter.
Hi Jayant, thank you. It surely is a powerful medium when one knows how to use it. Too many people and small businesses sign up to Twitter and don’t use it after giving up. They don’t realize it takes time to grow the seeds on Twitter. Thanks for coming by on this one Jayant. Are you active on Twitter?
