Are leaders born or made? Some people are just natural born leaders. They have influence over people without being bossy or demanding.
Therefore, they have an aurora about them that people naturally seem to respect and listen to.
Natural leaders are generally great communicators, negotiators, are organized and manage their time efficiently. They can captivate people’s attention, and make decisions that people feel happy and confident in following.
If this sounds like you, then a career that makes the most of your natural traits is something that should most definitely be considered.
Here are some ideas that will play to your natural born leader skills.

Natural Born Leaders
Leaders aren’t just born or made—they’re both. While some folks might have natural charisma or confidence, leading effectively often comes from experience and learning.
Think about all those skills like communication, empathy, and decision-making. You aren’t born knowing that stuff. You pick it up along the way, through trial and error, and even some failure.
Sure, some people start with an edge, but without practice and growth, that natural ability only goes so far. Anyone willing to put in the work can develop leadership skills.
The combination of innate traits and learned skills creates a strong leader. Have you ever noticed how great leaders constantly learn from everything they do? It’s because they know they can always get better.
Business Owner as Leaders
An obvious choice for someone that is a good decision maker. Being level headed is a key trait for many business owners. Many have a natural leadership quality. They are natural born leaders who can make quick decisions.
Before diving right in and setting up a venture, you could gain some qualifications first.
An online bachelor’s degree in organizational leadership could be studied around your current role. Then, when you graduate and set up your business you have knowledge behind you. Any kind of business degree would also be useful.
If you wanted to be extra careful, you could work for a year or more in a business related career after graduating to gain some experience.
These are the skills that will come in useful for when you’ve established your own company, and will increase your chances of success. I know I’ve always learned more by doing things along the way and learning from mistakes made.
Manager/ Team Leader Career Ideas
Being a team leader is ideal for those that are natural leaders and are happy providing others with direction. Oftentimes, being a team leader can pay you well and you gain respect from your peers.
The best thing about this, is that most jobs enable you to work your way up to manager’s status if you’re hardworking and reliable.
It can take many years, but you can essentially start at the bottom and work your way up. As you work in a company over time, you learn the ropes. Thus, eventually you can find your way to the top.
By starting at the bottom you can really learn about the business and help others to grow it for you.
Project Managers Tend to Be Born Leaders
Project managers are good at multitasking. Good project managers are not getting bogged down by silly details. They are able to see the ‘bigger picture.’ Many projects managers are adaptable and flexible. Hence they are able to make a plan work even as issues crop up. As you know, issues can change the overall path of progress.
If this sounds like your kind of skill set then project managing could be the perfect career for you. Again, project managers exist in all kinds of industries.
So it’s something you could work towards in the career you’re currently in. Or you could get qualified and specialize in a specific industry before applying for jobs.
If you’ve been told that you’re a natural born leader, or find that you seem to take on leadership roles well in areas of your life then this is something that could be really advantageous in certain careers.
Project managers can inspire a team to be super productive.

I love Dan’s break idea Lisa. 1 secret to my energy is taking frequent work breaks for jogging, yoga, Netflix, or taking selfies here in Oman. Leaders pull back to recharge; followers force their way through their day, and burn out.
Hi Ryan, I’m working on that more and more for myself. I started out well with it but then I took on more clients and it got sidetracked. Now, I have to remember to stop and get a drink, eat and go for a walk. I found an indoor track for cold days to keep me “on track”….:) Thank you for coming by on this one and enjoy your day Ryan!
Hi Lisa, I also used to work in management in the brick and mortar world and I loved it. I found that I particularly loved looking at the bigger picture and making the decisions. It also turned out that those skills were my forte, thankfully.
As I look towards 2019 and am considering what my next steps will be I have to consider a few things and I need to make a few changes, as you know. Maybe I will explore expanding into doing more consultant type of work which would suit me well. Hopefully anyway. We’ll see.
Have a good day, Lisa.
Hi Amanda, interesting, what type of store? I love making decisions too. I find many of my friends have a such a hard time over it, even if it’s ordering off of a menu. That’s when I realized I was a decision maker. (Though my husband is even a better one than me.
Interesting for your 2019 – do you have a local base for that? That’s what I’m doing along with social media management. I’m loving teaching social media classes too. I’m getting out of my shyness one class at a time. Let me know if I can be of any help – email me anytime Amanda. Have a terrific Thursday!
Hi Lisa,
When I worked in Corporate America, I was in a manager/team leader role. I loved it but it was stressful just the same because I had to answer to upper management when my team’s sales goals weren’t met…thankfully that didn’t happen a lot.
I don’t have any plans for new ventures in 2019 but then again I never know what could come my way throughout 2019.
Thanks for sharing the tweets/quotes from these leaders, my favorite one is by revclub.
Hope you’re having a great week so far!
Cori
Hi Cori, I don’t envy that role you had as a manager. I was in sales for many years in corporate world and always having to make goals that were elevated and never went down was indeed stressful.
I love making my own goals now and plans. Of course I do put pressure on myself just as much as I did when I was in the corporate world. It takes time to adjust I guess.
I love that quote too – show the way is my favorite way! Action speaks louder than words. This week is flying by Cori. I hope you are having a good week and getting ready for the holidays. Have a great day ahead!
