A Blogger Named Mayura – Who Is He And Where Is Sri Lanka?

Mayura – My Interview with the King of Tech

If you have been following Inspire to Thrive for a while you will know Mayura, the king of tech and commenting. Mayura was one of the first bloggers I met. I was on the Blogger platform where he is today still. He probably has the best website on Blogger. He is the most polite person I know on the internet. I have grown to know and love Mayura, my king of tech as I call him. He is so smart with all things tech. He has done a guest post here on how to make your computer last. I had imagined he was around the age of my sons and he is. He is truly an amazing young man!

blogger Mayura

Why did you start blogging Mayura?

Actually, I had no WHY when I start trying out blogging platforms and fell in love with Blogger. I was not aware of blogs at all. But I was bit familiar with forums and been answering questions based on computer problems.

I really loved the idea of blogging as I could have my own little space with more control over it. Plus, I feel it’s productive, as I don’t want repeat the same thing over and over again as like I did in forums. Now it turns out to be an informative resource that people can make use of.

Mayura4ever

How old were you when you started to blog?

I was 23 years, 1 month, and 16 days old. I can’t recall the seconds though.

How did you learn so much tech stuff?

Enthusiasm drove me all the way 🙂

Are there many bloggers in your country of Sri Lanka?

Yeah, there are many of them and most of blogs I came across were written in our native language. They are very creative bloggers who possess different kind of talents. I was amazed when I found so much engagement happening over there even though their blog posts were not written in English.

How is the internet in Sri Lanka – Are many people online? And what about cell phones and smartphones? I know you mention outages a bit, that’s why I ask.

As affordable smartphones hit the local market, Internet became very popular among younger generations here. Prior to smartphones, we weren’t using mobile devices to surf Internet as much as we do now. However older generations are yet reluctant to embrace the new technology.

Right now, wireless mobile network connections are very reliable in urban areas. But we were experiencing some outages time to time, as we are bit away from urban area. Anyway it’s getting better with the competitiveness of telecommunication industry.

I’m always fascinated about your country Mayura, can you tell us more about it and where is it?

Just imagine the area of West Virginia Lisa 🙂

Sri Lanka is a small island and mostly admired by travelers around the World due to natural beauty, and the heritage enriched by the Buddhism. It was called as “The Pearl of the Indian Ocean” too. The native ethnic group living here is Sinhalese, but we have a multi ethnic, multi religious and multi-cultural society.

Sri Lanka

I don’t think few phrases itself can make you feel about Sri Lanka. Just Google for it and I’m sure you would be fascinated by what you see 🙂

Can you receive payments by PayPal in Sri Lanka yet?  If not how can you accept payments?

Not yet Lisa. PayPal has been restricted as a way to receive payments, but we can send payments through. As a freelancer, I had a hard time accepting payments from clients live in overseas. Not everyone comfortable in using other payment systems as most are fond of PayPal.

The best alternatives are Skrill (Formerly known as Moneybookers), Western Union, MoneyGram and Bank Wire.

Do your folks and other family members read your blog?

My parents don’t know about it 🙂 My siblings and some of my cousins were dropping by on my blog time to time through the links being shared on Facebook and other social networks. I’m grateful for the support I’ve been getting from my family as I’ve got enough freedom to keep on blogging.

What do you like best about blogging Mayura?

The best I like about blogging is BLOGGING itself. The whole process of researching and writing, connecting with bloggers / readers, tweaking the design, experimenting, blah blah and even dealing with spammers don’t make me overwhelming. It’s something I’ve been enjoying and feels a part of my life by now.

I see in your portfolio you’ve  done other websites – What formats do you do them in?

Well, it depends on the client requirements. Most clients prefer building their websites on Content Management Systems such as WordPress, Drupal etc. for the ease of management. But if I’ve got to build it from scratch, I’ll go for it too. As a service provider, I believe I’ve got to be ready for all the possibilities and hence I keep learning. Mostly I’m getting requests to redesign and resolve technical issues on blogs / websites / social profiles.

I love your support center Mayura. Did you do that all in Blogger?

Blogger Mayura Support Center

As I was fond of forums, I thought of having one for my blog too. It’s powered by Get Satisfaction, but linked directly with the blog.

Further, it’s about being organized. Personally, I’m bit uncomfortable of having off-topic queries as comments beneath posts as I find comments alone can be helpful for future visitors. So I’ve found it’s a great way to address other type of questions that visitors have and helps the content including comments of the blog to be more relevant to the topic.

What do you plan to do with all your amazing knowledge in the future?

It’s about doing something worthwhile. Knowledge doesn’t hold any value unless we use it. Isn’t it? Currently I’m on a personal goal to learn few more technologies to offer more services for bloggers and businesses in future by going beyond the freelance web designer / developer title.

Anything you would like to add Mayura?

I’d love to send you a virtual hug for having me here and running through a pretty interesting interview Lisa 🙂 I appreciate the opportunity on adding something out of the questions too.

Blogging is a wonderful experience when you believe in yourself and follow your style

Thank you so much for the kind words mate! 🙂 Well, my parents don’t know how to use a computer and never surfed through the Web 🙂 Else they could have spotted my blog already.

Bloggers can be too busy. Can’t they? Sometimes I wonder how some bloggers even manage multiple blogs or do a lot of activity which seem they had to buy some extra time. Nothing is impossible 😉

Thanks for coming by and checking out the interview Scott 🙂

I have another friend from India that I chat with from time to time, but I am not sure if he is in Sri Lanka. How long have you offering support on your blog?

      Hi Sonia,

Well, I had it online after few months of blogging dear 🙂 I’ve been offering help as I can since then, as t’s a great way to address off-topic questions.

Ha ha… I’m a casual blogger, who just love blogging Sonia 🙂 I don’t like to call it full-time or part-time blogging ’cause it’s a hobby of mine that I’ve been enjoying throughout last 2 years. Dedicated into it. I don’t find I’m working there and I don’t like to push myself either.

Yeah, I’m involved in a development project and work on freelancing projects too dear 🙂 My goal is expanding it and offering more services through my blog, so I can manage stuff myself there while being more independent. I’m working on it right now 😉

Aha… If he’s from India, then he probably not from Sri Lanka 🙂 But he might know about my country very well as India is the country right above us 🙂

Thanks for coming over to check out my interview Sonia 🙂 I’m glad to hear you enjoyed it. Of course, thanks to Lisa 🙂

    Excellent interview, Lisa!

I have always wanted to start interviewing people but seems to be I’m always distracted doing so many different things. But one day I’m gonna…

When I first started blogging, I’ve always see Mayura everywhere. And not only does he leave long and valuable comment, he also seem to be the first commenter. And so I was curious about this person and finally visited his blog. When he finally visited my blog, he was the nicest, friendliest, and the most polite.

Mayura acts very matured for his age. I’m delighted for that. What a great young man! The kind of man I would like to introduce to my daughters. And so if he started blogging at age of 23 in 2011, he is 25 by now. Right? My oldest daughter just turned 26. And so he is young enough to be my son.

Also, I didn’t know that Mayura is the age of your son. I thought they’re at the age of 10 or 11. See, I’m getting to know you more, young lady. This is great. I’m always learning something new from you.

    Over to Mayura, you’re great!!!

I’m always learning something new from you. First time I read Sri Lanka, it made me think of Alaska. Dunno why. But it’s a beautiful tropical place, right?

Sorry, I haven’t seen the video yet. I’m still in bed with my tablet, catching up with my friends blog…commenting at an ungodly hour. I woke up around 3 AM. And the first thing I grabbed was my tablet.

Hubby is still asleep beside me so can’t play the video. Anyway…

I love your Support page. Didn’t know it til Lisa introduced this on her interview. I left a praise message to you there by the way.

Mayura, you are a true inspiration for us bloggers. I asked myself, if you are not making money blogging, would you still blog just for the fun of it and just for the fun of helping others? I know what your answers will be. And you are the true blogger. And I’m the same way for that reason. I love blogging and interacting with my friends online.

Blogging keeps me sane. I don’t go out much and many times I’m stuck at home (and I don’t mind). With a few of close friends who keeps interacting with me makes a huge difference in everyday life.

    Communication is fun!

Anyway, thank you for the eagerness of always wanting to help someone. You are absolutely terrific! A true gem. A great friend and supporter. I’m blessed having you as a friend. Keep up the great job!

Thanks for the interview, Lisa. I wish you both a happy week!

Gosh… I act mature to my age? 😯 I’ve always thought I’m like a kid  I’ve never felt I’m younger than any of my friends online including you Angela 🙂 Many of them are in my mother’s age. But always felt like you all are in my age and treat ’em as friends. We are just like a family!

I can’t deny the fact that I’m learning from you too Angela 🙂 You are an experienced graphic designer challenged by technology, but beat ’em all successfully and progressing. A game changer! We all got something to share and learn from each other. I love that!

Well, it’s best to watch the video and think about the initial thought you had about Sri Lanka. I hope you did it already 🙂

Thanks for your kind words and compliments Angela 🙂 I really appreciate taking your time to visit Support community and leave a praise there too. You see, here I’m the one with short comments. I just love to read all the thoughts about me here and I’m blushing while reading through your wonderful comment. I’m lucky enough to have you in my friend circle dear 🙂

Wow…I finally see the video. Beautiful. The dance reminds me of Thailand. Even the costumes. Thailand is also a Buddhist country. However, I see Sri Lanka is close to India. Isn’t it India consider as Asian countries as well as the Pakistani, Indonesia…My grandmother on my father’s side, we all think she was either India or Indonesia because of her feature. The nose and the eyes. Even my dad looked Indian (from India…not the American Indian…LOL)

Anyway…they’ve lost my grandmother’s certificate and so as my grandfather’s during World War II and so we couldn’t identify her origin. All I know is on my mother’s side, grandma is pure Spanish (from Spain)…so part of our descendants are Spanish for sure.

Thanks for saying “felt like you all are in my age….We are just like a family!” That’s exactly how I feel too with all of my online friends and girlfriends.

And as far as graphic design is concerned…so long as they have the CMS wordpress, I’m fine. Just make NOT code things coz this will bore me to death. LOL…anyhoo, looking forward to TGIF.

        Until later,

Woah… Lost the certificate? I wonder how people identified others before birth certificates come into play. Probably they could identify people and origin by looking at them, nah? 😉

It was really awesome learning more about you Mayura and I’d heard you were from Sri Lanka. I like to call you the Tutorial King cause you do them so well. It’s people like you that make us appreciate this process.

One thing I’m curious about Mayura! Where do you live in Sri Lanka and were you affected by the tsunami that hit your island back in 2004? That has to have been such a scary time, I can’t even imagine but knowing someone now that actually lives there. Wow.

Thanks for sharing more with us about you and I so admire that you’re taught yourself so much for this. I can relate to that although I’m nowhere near your level of expertise. By the way, loved the video, really cool.

Woah… You knew it? 🙂 Gosh… It was the first time and terrible enough as we had no alert system to notify about it in first place. We can’t forget that day. Just after the Christmas (26th). Well, I live in Negombo and it’s really close to the sea too. Fortunately, our area didn’t affect much as other areas. No deaths but damages to the properties.

That was scary indeed and even some trains with full of people were disappeared into the sea but yet no evidence of ’em. I just don’t wish such a disaster for anyone.

Thanks for your kind words and wishes as always Adrienne 🙂 Well, Lisa decided to add a video and I’m really glad that everyone loved it too!

He’s a fine young man, and this week he saved my butt as my hosting took my sites off line for CPU issues. He cleaned and fixed everything in my blogs back office.

You have some stunning scenery in Sri Lanka, thanks to the video for showing us some of your beautiful country.

Just one question: Why haven’t you told your parents about your blogging? You’re very good at it and I should think they’d be very proud of your achievements 🙂

Continue doing what you’re doing my friend, you’re helping lots of people and we all appreciate you Mayura 🙂

Have a great weekend Lisa and Mayura,

      Hi Barry,

Thank you for the greetings mate 🙂 Indeed! I’m excited to do my first interview and to read such wonderful responses mate.

Online payment was a big issue here especially for freelancers as many clients use PayPal Barry 🙂 Glad we have some reliable alternatives and of course, Enstine adding one to the list too.

Well, adding video and images were done by Lisa 🙂 She really presented the interview very well as you can see mate.

You know, not everyone find blogging as a fascinating idea Barry 🙂 I’m just securing my freedom to blog and I believe that’s the best way to go mate. I hope I’ll reveal my secret in future 🙂

Thanks for your appreciations and kind words Barry 🙂

You have a wonderful weekend too!

      Cheers…

    Hi Mayura,

    1. I’m very glad to meet you. Sri Lanka? I heard a lot of beautiful things about this country. You are independent but integrated in the larger culture, spirituality and history of the indian subcontinent.

    2. “The process, the blogging itself”. This is what I like, too. Blogging is a fascinating domain and there is no wonder so many people try it. But it’s also difficult and time consuming and you need perseverance and patience until you get results.

    3. You have a forum on your site? What kind of forum? Technical one ? I’m always interested in forums … . However, I rarely join one because I need to know and trust the founders of the respective forum first. This time it would be interesting because you, as a person are interesting. It seems you inspire like and trust.

    Have a nice day

      Hi Silviu,

It’s my pleasure to meet you too mate 🙂 Lisa got me the opportunity here through this interview.

Absolutely! We have different aspects being observed mate. Opinions everywhere from different directions.

Well, I really thought about that answer and asked myself several times. But I couldn’t think of one thing specifically, instead of the whole picture. I think bloggers can relate to that 🙂

Actually, it’s to manage different kind of technical and off-topic questions I’m getting at my blog. Almost all of them are technical questions 🙂 I like helping people that way too.

Thanks for your kind words and thoughts on this interview Sylviu 🙂

You have a nice weekend ahead!

      Cheers…

Happy that some small icelander guy have made it so big in the world of blogging, I am blogging since last 2-3 years and still struggling to find the right way. I wish you get all necessary services in your country soon so that other bloggers may also get inspired.

    Hello Lisa and Mayura
This is my first time on this blog. I found the share from Harleena on Facebook, so I decided to read the post.

Mayura you seem like a very interesting person, and from what I have read so far, many of your friends have placed a great value on your expertise and your friendship.
It is my honor to start connecting with both of you.

This is ONE of the things that I love about blogging, we meet so many people from the four corners of the world.

I will go to your site and read some of the post. Lisa I will do the same for you.

    Thank you both again

    Hi there Mayura!

Congratulations on your firs interview! It was great to get to know a little more about you :). I remember reading one of your posts after I read a comment you left here on Lisa’s post and I have been hooked since LOL.

You definitely do deserve the title of King of Tech as I think you’re a guru of all things techie myself :). I was watching the video of Sri Lanka and oh my goodness what a breathtaking place you live in.

I would like to personally thank you because the posts you shared have helped me and I’m a little more comfortable with techie stuff thanks to you :).

Hope you both have a great day!

Hi Mayura – what a delight to see you here at Lisa’s blog 🙂

Congratulations on your first interview and I think it couldn’t have been at a better place than here! I agree with Lisa – you ARE the King of Tech, at least for all of us who visit your blog and LOVE the informative posts you share.

Mayura is one person who is always there to help others, and he is so-so liberal in his thoughtful comments and sharing everyone’s post. Not to mention the wonderful blogger that he is, which makes his blog one of the kind – the best one we know on a Bloggers platform. Yes, I did visit the forum section once, though didn’t stay on long there but I think it’s a great way to help those in need and also increase your interaction and visits at the blog.

I can understand the Paypal issues and all that happens because there was a time we faced such problems in our country too, but it was resolved within a few months. I guess you already found good alternatives for that. I know your family doesn’t know about you blog, though once they do, they will be so proud of it and the work you do to help others. I loved the video, and yes, Sri Lanka is an awesome place as one sees and reads so much about it all over. We might just visit it one fine day, being so close by.

Thanks for sharing more about such a wonderful blogger and dear friend with all of us Lisa. Have a nice week ahead, both of you 🙂

      Hi Harleena,

Nice to see you too dear 🙂 I appreciate suggesting King of Tech title, but I’m yet too young to be the king though 😀 lol…

Interesting indeed how Lisa’s question line up got me sharing more about my blog and support community, including myself. It’s in my hope that I can tell about my blog to my parents at the right time too dear 🙂

The PayPal issue is in the control of Government, and all the freelancers and online businesses here hoping PayPal will be approved as a way to receive payments sooner too.

Thank you for all these wonderful compliments and you never fail to compliment enough Harleena 🙂

      Cheers…

Interesting interview and thanks for it Lisa and Mayura

Hey Mayura, we in Africa and Cameroon to be more specific have that same payment issue. It has been a serious case to me until I found Payoneer. I have checked and they cover your country. That’s a perfect solution to receive money online. I wrote a post on my blog how I cash out from Clickbank, CJ, etc to my Payoneer MasterCard. It’s been a real solution. I hope this helps you too

It is so great to see you here Mayura on Lisa’s blog!

I just loved learning more about where you live. It is such a beautiful place Mayura! Now I’ve known you for some time now and your blog is one I never want to miss. I’m not a technical person, but need to keep up to date on technical issues. You have such a great way to explain things. Then you go step by step so I can follow and change things up if I need to.

You are doing a great service for your followers! And besides all the business stuff, your kind heart reaches across the globe. You are always willing to help your buddies and that is much appreciated.

When people ask me technical stuff I tell them “you may try the rest, but go to the BEST….Mayura!”

    Many Blessings,

This is fascinating learning more about you and Sri Lanka. I really like the video. Puts us right there with you. Is everything you know self-taught? Or did you attend school or lessons to learn? I see you are looking to offer more services in the future. Is this going to be your career? If so, I think you’ll do awesome! You know you’re my “go-to” person for Blogger and I recommend you to everyone I know. 🙂

Great to see you hear Mayura!

    Hey Lisa,

Thank you so much for the thought of interviewing me and exposing more about myself to the audience dear 🙂 You are always being supportive to fellow blogging friends and never fail to prove it.

It’s really interesting how you got me with different kind of questions. This is my first interview and usually someone expects all about blogging or something. But here your flow is different. I’ve seen in in the previous interview too 🙂

I must say I’m impressed with what you have done to bunch of text though 😉 Now that’s a lovely presentation with embedded images and a video.

Looking forward to read responses and I really enjoyed my own interview here right now Lisa 😉

Thanks again for having me and you have a fantabulous day there!

    Cheers…
