How to Improve Your Site’s PageRank Score

Improve Your Site’s PageRank

You are familiar with the term “PageRank”. Aren’t you?

Oops… Not “Page Rank”, “Pagerank” or “Page-rank” friends. It’s PageRank! 🙂

Even if you are not familiar with how PageRank is being calculated, at least, you know the PageRank of your site. Don’t you? If you haven’t bothered yet to find out, check your site’s PageRank now.

Basically, PageRank is a score reflecting the Google’s opinion on how important a web page is. It is one of the factors being considered when listing web pages in Google search results too. No wonder why bloggers and webmasters worry too much about their score. As long as Google awarded as the web search giant, the obsession of PageRank won’t be fade away.

If you are too obsessed about PageRank, remember you are being too dependent on the Google’s opinion. But if you know the idea and do it right, it will be a long-term investment. No regrets in future when Google releases their next Zebra update.

When calculating the PageRank, Google do rely on links point to a web page and count them as votes. Not every vote has the same weight though. It may depends on the relevancy of the link and importance of the referring page too.

PageRank matters. But not as you may think it is. Matt Cutts has an interesting video describing how important the PageRank is to rank well in Google search results.

If you are interested in digging into the subject, read more about PageRank.

Where Do You Stand?

What is your PageRank now? Are you satisfied? If you are seeking ways to get your score up, let’s take a look at few things you can do. It’s mostly about getting more links pointed at your site aka backlinks.

You can find very interesting posts and articles online on how bloggers increased their PageRank in a short period of time. But some of them got hurt by recent Panda and Penguin updates.

Still Google working on delivering the best user experience for their searchers. So just don’t apply strategies rightaway, but think about if it’s the right thing to do. Else, sooner or later, Google will take action and your efforts will get hurt.

Improve Your PageRank

Prior to the tactics, I’d like to mention a wonderful post written by Lisa on how you can generate backlinks. Simple and to the point. In that blog post you can find some ways to generate backlinks too.

Commenting on other blogs is a well-known strategy to build backlinks to your site. But it’s rather effective if the blog you are commenting has a good standing and relevant to your own niche.

Actually, just leaving a comment won’t create an effective backlink for your site. By default, the external links within comments section are attributed with nofollow attribute and even you left your site link when you comment, Googlebots won’t consider it as a vote.

The blog you are commenting should allow outgoing links within the comments section to be followed by Googlebots. Not the technical term, but we usually call it a “DoFollow” blog. If the outgoing links can be followed, Googlebots can lead to your site from the commented blog. Indirectly, it will act as a voting too.

Then, you need to make sure you leave your blog or website URL while commenting on other blogs. Not within your comment, but in the relevant field. Else you will be considered as a spam.

For example, take a look at below comment form and you can find the highlighted text field which is labeled as “Website”. Don’t leave it empty and enter your site’s URL when you are commenting.

If you are using other types of commenting profiles such as Disqus, IntenseDebate etc., make sure to mention your blog or website URL in your profile too.

Submission to Website Directories

Registering and submitting your site link to website directories is another popular methodology to flow PageRank to your site by creating more backlinks pointing to your site.

If you Google for website directories, you will find articles listing dozen of website directories with higher PageRank and popularity. Finding popular and quality directories is the key.

Submitting your links to low quality website directories can hurt your site’s popularity and PageRank.

Participate in Communities / Forums

Participating in relevant communities and forums is a great way to create backlinks to your site. It doesn’t mean you should spam with all your links in them, but you can answer the questions and engage in discussions you can contribute.

Take the opportunity in there by mentioning your site URL in your community or forum profile. Further, mentioning it in your signature is a great way to promote it and drive more traffic to your site. As you build your authority, you will create more backlinks and it will aid your site to improve the PageRank too.

But if you are just trying to find link love and spam always, you will be get banned sooner. Or you will get bored in the end and find you wasted your time.

Guest Blogging

So many guest bloggers out there looking for backlinks. Haven’t you got any emails inquiring guest blogging opportunities yet?

Guest blogging on popular blogs can get you high quality links pointing to your site too. As author bio states guest bloggers’ site links, they will act as backlinks.

But the links in author bio area are not effective as natural links in your post or article. The links in author bio are generated intentionally to give credit to the author and his site. So it doesn’t act as a recommendation. Google is smarter in spotting them, but it doesn’t mean they are useless after all.

If you can add relevant links to your own site within the post, that’s much effective on improving your site’s PageRank.

Remember, guest blogging has more benefits than just expecting backlinks out of it.

Social Bookmarking

Social bookmarking is a popular technique to create backlinks and to improve visibility online. Therefore, it helps boosting PageRank too.

It has been proven that social bookmarking sites sending more traffic to interesting content since they start to evolve on the web. Some of the popular social bookmarking websites are as follows,

• Reddit
• StumbleUpon
• Digg
• Dilicious
• Newsvine
• Diigo

Many users were trying to abuse those platforms wanting to create backlinks to their own sites. It’s not a secret after all. Even they allow us to generate enough backlinks, I believe Google has their own point of view about them and may have lower the weight on them. Definitely, you will need more backlinks from there to improve PageRank.

Internal Linking

Interconnecting your own pages within your site is considered as another strategy to lower the bounce rate of your site. Further, it can be very helpful in improving PageRank too.

The relevancy of your internal links can be greatly affected on how much it can contribute on improving your site’s PageRank, and excessive internal links can be hurt your SEO efforts too.

Be careful with internal linking and always think about improved user experience too.

Final Thoughts

It doesn’t matter if your site has more than enough backlinks from high quality sites and directories on the web, unless you have qualitative content.

Higher PageRank doesn’t ensure you can hit the first search results page on Google everytime. Sometimes, even pages with fewer backlinks do rank higher due to the factors such as increased click through rate, lower bounce rate etc.

Google has an interesting post reflecting what sites are considered as high quality sites. Take a look at the factors described in this blog post and think about how you can improve yours ~ More guidance on building high-quality sites.

I know you just love to have high quality backlinks and see your site’s PageRank goes higher and higher. While you are in that process, do try generating qualitative and unique content.

Further, make use of the SEO techniques available to help search engines to find your interesting content too.

As you focus on most of the aspects, you don’t need to be a workaholic to create backlinks or get others to vouch on your content. Others publishers will naturally start to link and recommend your content.

Else, even after 10 years, still you will have to spend a lot of your time on generating backlinks, instead of allocating more of your time to create high quality content.

Make sure to understand the limits. If you trying to apply too much, it can also hurt your SEO efforts too.

I hope you are now familiar with some strategies to improve your PageRank. Mostly, I just wanted to grab your attention on some misconceptions. Hope my thoughts will direct you into long-term plans.

What else you were following and how effective they were? Let us all know about them 🙂

I’m sure we can learn from each other very well.

PageRank is kinda dead already and I find it’s more of a way for Google to prevent obsession about PageRank 🙂 It’s being used by Google to prioritize search results and what should be delivered first.

Anyway, rather than the number, getting the complete picture about PageRank algorithm and how its factors can benefit our blogs is what matters in long term. Isn’t it? Go with good tactics on improving PageRank and feel the benefits 🙂

Hope you got a good standing with recent PageRank update mate!

I particularly utilise blog commenting and guest blogging as part of my internet marketing strategy.

It’s very important to ensure the links you are gaining come from relevant and authoritative sites though so you can avoid those “Zebras”

    • Hi Mark,

You got it mate 🙂 Relevant links can be immensely helpful on your site’s PageRank. Hence why commenting, guest posting and many other strategies rank lower in boosting PageRank process.

If you can get a mention from Google or Yahoo, that’s awesome indeed. Isn’t it? However, it’s not easy to get links from authoritative sites though .But if you are onto generating awesome content that everyone wouldn’t hesitate to link back and talk about, no Zebra can avoid your PageRank boost mate 😉

  • Hi Mayura,
Excellent recommendations you’ve provided based on some extensive research work and I’m sure you would have given a lot of time to get this post in place.

But when it comes to PageRank, especially the Toolbar PageRank, it seems it is something Google is slowly killing. In fact, they haven’t updated PageRank since February this year and people still keep wondering if they are ever going to revive it.

Before last update, I did apply some of the strategies you just recommended and did see some of my blog posts getting a PageRank of 2 and 3. My homepage at that time wasn’t very well written, so I missed that window at that time. And now, we don’t even know if this is going to matter anymore since Domain Authority and Page Authority seems to be taking precedence. Don’t you think?

Anyways, if Google revives PageRank, you’ve provided some great tips. Thank you for sharing!

    • Hi Kumar,

Ha ha… You got me 🙂 Researching is MUST for this kind of topic mate. Google keep changing their strategies and they made changes on determining PageRank too. Way better than it used to be and minimizing the abuse too.

You are right there Kumar! Google almost killed PageRank on Toolbar and yet we got no PageRank update after February. From one aspect, it’s really wonderful to be without PageRank ’cause people will focus on quality content rather than link building strategies. But from another aspect, businesses who won’t generate quality content but have static content on their websites may suffer a lot. Let’s keep eyes on what Google is upto mate 🙂

I’m glad to hear you have been taking action on ’em Kumar 🙂 Missing the PageRank update keeps folks in the dark avoiding them to know if their strategies worked out or not. Anyway, we all have to wait until Google reveal it.

I hear ya Kumar 🙂 Authority seems to take over, including the Author Rank. Yet it’s about the content you offer, recommendations you get from others and authority you have built online. Keep focus on those factors and give more valuable stuff for others mate. You won’t have to worry about PageRank much then 🙂

Thanks for coming over and contributing your thoughts on improving PageRank Kumar 🙂

Because if the quantity of outgoing links are more from where you making link for your site will be not as good as if you are making a link from site which have very few outgoing links.
You’ll get very high link juice and pr juice, if site have low number of out going links. So keep this in mind, always check how many outgoing links the site have from where you are making link for your site…

Personally, I don’t think blogging should incorporate such overwhelming processes mate. It’s rather focusing on SEO efforts than the contribution. Mind you, the link profiles of sites are always changing and it’s again overwhelming to keep up with all the changes. Isn’t it? 🙂

The reason why Google just not depend on link ratio much now, but other attributes such as engagement, social signals etc.

  • Hi Mayura – you’re getting out and about, I see! I’m very disorientated – finding you here and at Aha-Now and Harleena at Adrienne’s shop – very confusing!

Seriously, another great guest post you’ve done for us here. I must admit, all this backlinking stuff gives me brain ache. Apart from trying to produce quality content, commenting on other blogs and via social media and internal linking, I don’t do much consciously to improve my PR. Like Harleena, Bren and some of your other commenters, I don’t worry too much about rankings – partly because I do think it’s a bit of a lottery, unless you really know how to play the system, which some bloggers obviously do. It never ceases to amaze me how some crappy sites end up with amazing Alexa and PR rankings – there’s got to be some devious goings-on, I reckon! I don’t care what Matt Cutts says about Google rewarding quality – I’m afraid I don’t think it always works out that way.

Like Tim, my PR’s been stuck at 1 for a while now – in fact I think it went back to 0 for a bit, but last time I checked it was 1, which I guess is not too bad. I don’t have time to do much on forums and communities – I think those of us who genuinely spend a lot of time commenting in a meaningful way may miss out because we don’t have time to whizz around doing all the other clever stuff that might boost our rankings. Sorry if I sound a bit cynical 😉

Thanks so much for explaining how all this works, Mayura, and for providing those two great videos – Matt Cutts is always very informative and interesting to listen to.

And thank you, Lisa – this is an excellent share 🙂

Keep that attitude throughout your blogging experience Sue 🙂 You don’t wanna let numbers interfere your masterpieces.

I agree that sometimes we find low quality content get praises from Google and bloggers / webmasters trying to manipulate ’em for benefits. Sadly, we have to live with that too. But, their efforts are not for very long 🙂

Just think about what quality content and appropriate SEO practices can do for content Sue 🙂 Then, you have not only quality content but also improved visibility on search results. As Google progressing towards quality content, you will find that your time never wasted. Remember, Google not leading us. We, publishers, are way ahead 🙂

Ha ha… Don’t feel bad for being cynical Sue 🙄 I prefer ’em over praises. You reminds me of myself sometime back. As you learn more about search algorithms behind, you will address ’em in a different perspective 🙂

I’m glad to hear you got the idea of PageRank after reading the post dear. Yeah, you got it right 🙂 No need to obsessed, but you can use it as a determinant to verify how much you are progressing with backlinks.

Most importantly, you can take it as a long-term objective, so you won’t be dependent on Google 🙂 Hence, with or without Google, you are still standing out of the rest.

Thanks for dropping by and adding your thoughts on this topic Ellen 🙂

  • Hi Lisa,

Wow, lots of stuff here. GREAT post and comments.

First of Matt Cutts can’t pronounce the name Guillaume because it’s French 🙂

I am not getting overly upset over PageRank, Alexa rank and all these things, because one thing I certainly did notice is that it has not much to do with the quality of the content, the quality of the writing, and how nice or ugly your blog looks. But wow, so many things do get into the picture.

I’m certainly doing a lot of what you mentioned in here. Interestingly in my case I do not guest post for backlinks, so it’s certainly not the only benefits of that as you mentioned. But it’s still help with that too though.

But this was great information and I will save that post.

You have a very good point there Sylviane! The best is yet to come with Google search and I’m sure all the updates they are working on focused on improving the quality of search results being populated. PageRank is not the most important factor when ranking, but it’s valid.

Some bloggers are seeking out guest posting as a way to generate more backlinks Sylviane 🙂 But it’s not that effective as other strategies. However guest blogging has a whole new level of benefits.

My blog’s currently sitting at PR1 and has been for ages.

I’m not sure how often Google review PageRank but I don’t think it’s that often.

I’m happy enough not to be sitting at PR0 but would like to progress to PR2 if I can.

I follow many of the strategies you’ve mentioned, although I think I need to get more content published with some longer, more in depth, posts to get any further.

Mayura recently posted..Sharing on Google+ Made Automated in BloggerMy Profile

  • Hi Lisa and Mayura,

So Mayura…this is your 2nd appearance on Lisa’s blog. Lisa just loves you. LOL.

Anyway, this is a great topic to cover for all of us bloggers who can definitely benefit on this.

Did you just say Zebra update? Wow…I just learned how the Penguin works and now they have the Zebra already? Dang. Google is definitely on the roll, they really want to clean out spammers out there and have quality informations.

My site is so new that I haven’t even got the PageRank yet. However, the blog that I used to do which is is only 2 months older than my blog. On, I have posted a couple of original articles I wrote on EzineArticles and guess what, Google ranked it as PR 1. I’m amazed because NOT all of the articles there are originally written by me. Some are taken from EzineArticles themselves which they gave us the privilege to re-post such articles in our own website. So, I’m curious how in the world did it get PR 1.

…and yet my blog haven’t even reached any of these ranks just yet. Except my Alexa Rank is getting better and better everyday. This is the one that I see accelerating its rank and I’m pretty happy about it. To say the least, healthmatters actually got its rank before they changed the Panda to Penguin. And it could be for that reason why hasn’t reach any page rank whatsoever. As far as PR is concerned this is going to take forever before I even see my page ranked by Google.

I’m not too worried about PR, tho. I know it’s important and I’m aware of it but I don’t want to concentrate on this so much that I lose my real focus. In fact, I care more about my referral links and quality content.

So you say that by commenting other blogs is a well-know strategy to build your backlinks, BUT only if the blog you are commenting to have pretty good PR themselves and it’s within your NICHE. However, HOW can you tell that they are on “nofollow” without being so technical here. I don’t wanna look at the page source on my browser overytime I comment. As you already know, we are very busy people. So what is the BEST way to SEE the “rel=follow” website?

Back to EzineArticles, I read on Steve Scott’s book that they are one of the best ones to have quality backlinks. Another site that is great for backlinks is Google loves Squidoo…and I’ve been meaning to post something thru them but just never got to do it…too many distractions. LOL. Anyway…

Another place are the Community or Forum, Guest Blogging, Social Blogging…I just never got the time to go there and check them out. I used Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Linkedin, and Pinterest most of the time. Just the BIG 5. But hardly post anything on either Reddit, Stumbleupon, Digg, Delicious, etc.

So many things to do!!!! And all I want to do is blog. *joking* Anyway, GREAT post Mayura and great subject to tackle in, Lisa. You guys are great team and so kudos to you both!!!!

(I hope my comment is not as long as last time *chuckles*)

Angela McCall recently posted..How To Write EffectivelyMy Profile

    • Hi Angela,

Gosh… You just commented or appended another post? 😉 Awesome!

Ha ha… She loves friends 😉 Now, it’s our discussion ended up as a post here Angela!

I believe bloggers can use a help here too 🙂 Further, I wanted to mention some tactics which used to follow blindly are ineffective on improving PageRank. For example guest posting, but it has so many benefits instead of backlinks. Need to think in right way and how we can incorporate PageRank for our own good 🙂

lol 😀 I was kidding dear. So far, no Zebra update released by Google. But Google was trying out some updates lately and they are yet to be revealed. Mostly Google is working on penalizing low-quality sites, so we can hope original content to be ranked well. However, yet we can’t assure as solutions are based on algorithms.

Probably you will start to see a change in PageRank with next update Angela. Yet no update about that though 🙂 If you started blogging on your current blog after last February, no wonder why you don’t have a PageRank right now dear. PageRank will be revealed after a update 🙂

If we talk about having PR 1, first you need to assess the backlinks Angela 🙂 I hope your old blog has enough EFFECTIVE backlinks to reach PR 1 along with other factors. The thing is in case Google found your duplicate content and penalized, you can expect no improvement or lower PR next time. Yet, you can see content scrappers rank better in Google too. See, Google yet working on ’em 🙂

I think it’s best to wait for the next PageRank update Angela 🙂 It’s bit confusing if you try to compare both of your sites with current status. Anyway, you can take a look at Google Webmaster Tools too see stat difference of both.

That’s really cool! If your site ranks better in Alexa, it means traffic flowing on your way dear. Let them come and you need to focus on your priorities. Isn’t it? 🙂

Commenting is a well-known strategy and hence we mostly attracted by spammers Angela. If there were no benefits at all, I bet we could take care of spammers by ourselves. Actually, the blog we comment on needs to have a good standing and being relevant is effective than commenting on other blog with the same PageRank. However, unless that blog allow dofollow links, it’s almost ineffective for PageRank boost.

Ah… If you can read my reply to Silviu, you can find extension / add-on you can install in your browser Angela. They do highlight nofollow links as you visit ’em 🙂 It’s the easiest way to spot blogs allowed dofollow links.

Article directories like Squidoo get attention as they allow users to create free backlinks Angela 🙂 But if you just use that platform for creating backlinks, you might wanna read Adrienne’s comment.

Ha ha… I know, there are lot of stuff to be involved with Angela 🙂 If you ask me, I’m not following any of ’em with the expectation of PageRank improvement. Commenting is one of my favorites and I spend lot of time too when I can afford to. But just to express my opinion 🙂

Keep blogging and follow some of strategies as you find room for the Angela 🙂 You can learn a lot too. First of all, you just need to focus on quality content and interacting with others. I know you do that already and better than me too 😀 lol…

Hope my reply could cover your questions Angela 😉 If not, comment form is yours!

Thanks for coming over, and adding so many thoughts and experiences to the discussion dear 😳

Anyway, thanks for the NoDoFollow plugin on Firefox — this one works really well on my browser.

However, the NoFollow plugin on Chrome seems a little lame for some odd reason. I also did a search on Google for other NoFollow plugin and found Linkparser — this one is pretty useless. Seems like every single link it found on the web are on the RED ZONE which means it’s nofollow thingy. Oh well…

        Thanks anyway,

        • Hi Angela,

You’re welcome dear. Aha… You did the research, eh? 😉

Yey! So you have enabled DoFollow feature too. Now you can experiment how much commenters attracted after that feature enabled Angela. Usually more bloggers prefer to comment on DoFollow blogs. But you know, as they obsessed with PageRank.

Yeah, by default, links in comment section are marked as NoFollow dear. It’s for the safety, as spammers can leave links in there. When you turn off NoFollow via CommentLuv, it applies for the link displayed via CommentLuv only 🙂 That’s a GOOD thing.

Well, Firefox add-on shows both NoFollow and DoFollow links dear 🙂 But Chrome extension shows only NoFollow ones though. Go with what’s best for ya 🙂

Keep experimenting and I really appreciate sharing your thoughts after trying ’em out dear 🙂

Gosh… Yes mate 😉 We both have been busy lately.

It’s nice to hear you have been following some of mentioned strategies mate 🙂 Well, it takes time as Google crawl and find more backlinks pointing to your site.

Guest posting can offer more than just backlinks Ashley 🙂 It’s a great way to present in front of a new audience, hence you will attract more traffic too. There are more to think about. But as I mentioned, the links from author bio section won’t be much effective as natural mentions or recommendation though.

Unfortunately, I haven’t been looking into guest posting opportunities by myself mate 🙂 But, opportunities are everywhere!

You can find many opportunities on the blogs you visit, including here too 🙂 Unless there is no guest posting guidelines, head over to contact page and shoot a message asking if you can contribute to the blog.

In addition to blogs you know of, many bloggers find relevant and popular blogs to guest post by exploring website directories / communities too 🙂 Why not, check out the bloggers commenting on blogs and pay a visit. They might have opportunities 🙂

Further, you can try famous blogs such as ProBlogger, as they allow quality guest posts mate 🙂 If you can get featured, I know that’s a dream of some bloggers.

I’ll ask Lisa to mention if she knows anymore opportunities Ashley 🙂 Hope the mentioned ways help a bit.

  • Hey Mayura,

Great to see you here at Lisa’s blog and what a fabulous post. I love it when people take the time to explain things better and the nofollow issue is one I’ll be addressing soon myself.

Of course “way back when” I did use to obsess about my page rank mainly because I was being taught by people that Google mattered more then everyone else. Yes, we’re talking about four or five years ago now. I’ve learned myself that over time people give Google way too much credit and I’m not bowing down to them anymore. A couple years ago before the content farms were basically banned my blog was a PR4. Those links coming from the article directories really helped until they go slapped. Shame on them for allowing crappy content on their site. It went down to a PR2 but the next update went up to where it’s been for the past two years now, a PR3.

I’m not obsessed with it anymore, haven’t been for a long time when I also learned about the 200 other things that Google looks at. My mind went into overdrive so I realized that all I can continue to do is my best and hope people will like what I share. I believe they do so if Google wants to praise me for it then bring it on. If they don’t then I’m not losing any sleep. I’m done with them.

I know Google is important and I’m not belittling them at all but I just don’t think we all need to be so obsessed with what our numbers are.

Thank you so much for sharing this very helpful post, great job my friend. You do explain things so well.

Adrienne recently posted..Why It Is Never A Waste Of TimeMy Profile

    • Hey Adrienne,

Great to see you over here too dear 🙂

Oops… Numbers make us feel good. Aren’t they? 🙂 It sounds cool you had PR 4 back then with the help of those directories. But they had to adopt with the guidelines that Google imposed on duplicate content. Now it’s way better than the old times, else yet most of bloggers may worship Google for their success. As Lisa always says, putting all the eggs in one basket is not a good practice at all.

Google does matter as a way to bring organic traffic to our blogs, but being too much dependent can hurt us back for sure. I’m glad you are in the right track after following what you have been taught Adrienne 🙂 Even with PR 3.

I don’t think you need to worry too much about Google’s factors as you are really great at building relationships Adrienne 🙂 They are long lasting. Quality content matters as others likely to link back to them with no hesitation. I believe commenting is helping you to push the PageRank too, hence PageRank will follow you instead.

Thanks for coming over and pouring your thoughts and experiences with PageRank Adrienne 🙂

  • Hi Mayura,

I do not have any worries about my pagerank as my blog is still new. Also, there are so many factors that Google calculates other than backlinks… . Quality and unique content is good and natural backlinks also.

Now, I am curious Mayura… . Is there a way to know if the backlinks you create with comments are dofollow or nofollow? There are times when the blog owner choose to display this. It says explicitly that these are dofollow links. However, most of the time there is no information about this. How can I find out?

What I think would be great to know is a strategy to create backlinks. A strategy that works. Thanks for the link to Lisa’s article. I will check it.

Of course! Quality content tend to get natural backlinks, so it’s a long term investment indeed mate 🙂 Further if you follow other types of strategies, it helps your content get more exposure with backlinks too. You know, multiple benefits involved 🙂

Yeah, Google considers 200+ factors when ranking web pages in search results 🙂 But when it comes to PageRank, backlinks play a BIG role there mate. That’s why PageRank is one of the factors among 200. But yet, an important one.

Good question! 🙂 You can find it out if you digging into the source code. But it’s far more easier as there are browser extensions and add-ons available for that matter Silviu.

      Google Chrome ~ NoFollow

      Mozilla Fireox ~ NoDoFollow

Try the relevant extension / add-on, so you will find nofollow links highlighted on the page mate 🙂

You have done a great job explaining Page Rank. Like Matt Cuts says “It’s really common sense.” To me that is true. Good content, going to other people’s blogs and leaving a good comment, and most importantly answering your comments makes a good read.

I don’t get obsessed with my page rank at all. Sometimes I look at my Alexa Ranking and am surprised how well it is doing. But…there is a lot said about that too. Is it true or not? Who knows?

I like to blog and be mindful of a header, a word here and there that I can bold and italic, but not overdone. To me, there is nothing worse than going to a blog that is written for SEO. I jump off there like a cat on a hot tin roof.

As a blogger, I am an avid reader of other blogs. Then I go the extra mile to meet those bloggers on the social sites and syndicate their information.

Again, it just comes down to common sense!

If you have a fresh site, you have to wait for the next PageRank update to find its progress. But, sounds like you had it over a year online.

The last Google PageRank update was in last February (2013), but yet. no confirmation or prediction on next update though. Something strange, as Google usually updates PageRank every 3 months or so. I feel it’s better as I find more people do worry about their PageRank rather than other important factors 🙂

If you have followed SEO practices to improve search engine visibility, they alone won’t aid for the improvement of PageRank mate 🙂 You need to have reliable and quality backlinks pointed to your site. For that, you can make use of above mentioned strategies.

If you have a blog, it’s the perfect opportunity. You can start getting more people to engage with your blog and let them spread the word around. As your create unique and interesting content, others would love to mention your site in their blogs too. It’s just a simple example 🙂

I think it’s best to focus on creating engagement and driving more traffic to your site. Meantime, you can work on creating backlinks to improve your site’s PageRank.

  • Fancy seeing you here Mayura! 😀 I don’t get all worked up about SEO and Page Ranks but I know some people that are fanatics about it. Freaks me out a bit. I checked my blog and it ranks at a 2. Good or bad, I don’t know and I don’t care but 2 has always been my favorite number. 🙂

Thanks for taking the time to explain and give us helpful tips!

    Great choice in guest Lisa!

    • Hey Brenda,

Nice to see you too, even you were being busy lately dear 🙂

WordPress is search engine friendly, so you don’t need to worry too much about SEO dear 🙂 Ha ha… I’m bored of such fellows too. Hope they will learn with the experience.

Anyway, if you are hoping to increase PageRank, it needs some work though. But we don’t comment on other blogs expecting to boost out blog’s PageRank, eh? 😉

PR 2 is good indeed! 🙂 But it’s harder to go from PR 2 to 3 than PR 1 to 2. If you stop by some SEO forums, you will see how some bloggers crying out loud to get rid of PR 0 status.

You just need to follow tactics you can and like to dear 🙂 You already following some unwittingly.

Thanks for coming over and sharing your thoughts about PageRank and SEO Brenda 🙂

  • Hi Mayura, and great to see you here at Lisa’s blog 🙂

I should’ve guessed you’d be guest blogging here with such a wonderful topic yet again 🙂

Yes, people are literally obsessed with PageRank, Alexa Rank and all such things, not realizing that these keep changing with time, or as soon as a Google Update happens. I think you shouldn’t really bother about these, though I know bloggers tend to check out each others ranks or test who is in how much water, but this isn’t the ONLY thing they should see!

Loved Matts videos as always, which are so informative. I think what’s more important is the other things, the content, your consistency, commments, interaction with others, which all add up to things. I think nowadays it’s Athor Rank that’s more important, if I am not wrong.Nice tips too about how we can increase out PageRank, though it all depends how much of time we have in our hand for the same too, or perhaps I speak of myself because I’ve yet to start participating in forums 😉

Thanks for sharing. Have a nice week, both of you 🙂

    • Hi Harleena,

Nice to see you here too dear 🙂 Ha ha… Actually, Lisa and I were having a small discussion about PageRank and it turns out to an invitation.

Absolutely! PageRank will be worshiped until Google take the lead in the web search industry, but when they start to decline (Which may seem impossible to think right now), people may start to realize how dependent they were Harleena. It doesn’t mean PageRank is something to ignore completely, but Matt explains well how to think about that in his video. Isn’t it? 🙂

Yeah, Author Rank is getting the attention nowadays dear 🙂 But mostly after it’s initiated by Google. However, I believe building authority has been a MUST in a blogger’s agenda. Isn’t it how popular personalities made their name? Authority matters and it secretly push people to success too.

Oh… I’m so behind with above strategies too Harleena 🙂 Hardly active on forums too. Anyway, it’s best to follow tactics that you can take action. Not even SEO experts have no time for all these 🙂

Thanks for coming by and adding your thoughts on the mentioned strategies Harleena 🙂

You have a nice week too dear!

  • Mayura and Lisa wonderful breakdown here! I am sitting at PR 3 for one blog; my 2nd blog has yet to rank. As for the PR 3 blog I create good content frequently, do some guest posting and comment frequently on other blogs, intending to make an impact. Create, connect, follow your practical tips and you will be golden. Thanks!

    • Hi Ryan,

“Create, connect, follow your practical tips and you will be golden” ~ Just love that 🙂

Creating content that others won’t hesitate to mention would be a fantastic way to make an impact. Well, they need more time and effort. Aren’t they? 🙂

I’m glad to hear you have a blog with PR 3. I always find it’s harder to focus on multiple blogs, but most others like you doing it. Just awesome 🙂

Focus on your effective strategies and hope you have found few more ways here to add to your list Ryan 🙂

Thanks for coming and sharing your thoughts on improving PageRank mate!

  • Hi Mayura !
These strategies are excellent . I have been able to build many links pointing to my site using those strategies you’ve mentioned(excluding guest blogging) .I hope my blog gets ranked by Google on the next PR update.

    Thanks for sharing the information,

    • Hi Pramod,

Awesome! Glad you have been working on creating backlinks through the mentioned strategies 🙂 Personally, I’m yet behind on ’em. Mind you, they are just few though.

Guest blogging is a wonderful way to reach more people mate 🙂 Further, it can do more than something you expect. Anyway, from the point of view of backlinks, it’s not very effective as being recommended or mentioned by someone though 🙂

Hope your efforts will improve your blog’s PageRank and be focused on value you provide Pramod 🙂

Thanks for coming over and adding your thoughts mate 🙂

  • Hey Lisa,

Thank you so much for having me again on your wonderful blog dear. I’m honored! 😳

I’m really glad the fact that we could turn a question into a post 🙂 I believe this post addresses the specific question.

Especially, I’m hoping that different opinions will pour in with related concerns, and bloggers will re-assess their SEO strategies with the long-term vision. Well, awaiting for more discussion to happen and hope this post will help ’em.

Thanks again for everything Lisa 🙂

You have a fantabulous week dear! 😛

  • Thanks so much Mayura for answering my question on PageRank. You really did a lot of research and provided everyone a lot of information to increase their PageRank. I wonder when Google will be doing their update?

Interesting how internal linking is a major factor as well. I’ve been doing more of it everywhere lately (as long as it makes sense). I read many blogs that do not use this technique yet.

Great video’s too Mayura, you know Matt is one of my favs. Thanks again for rocking it here on InspireToThrive !
Lisa recently posted..How to Improve Your Site’s PageRank ScoreMy Profile

    • Hi Lisa,

You’re most welcome and it’s all my pleasure dear 🙂

If you can use a help from this post, I believe my efforts are worthy. Having multiple blogs and improving PageRank on each is not easy after all 🙂

Google is updating our PageRanks everyday Lisa 🙂 Just they don’t reveal all the time. I read that some years ago, we could view all the details about PageRank via GWMT. But as folks were too obsessed about it, Google removed that feature. Wish if you had it now? 😉

Internal linking is awesome as long as they relevant and add more value to the topic Lisa 🙂 You know, even it can help us lower our bounce rate too.

Like you, Matt is the best in my mind to talk about SEO too 🙂 He’s just simple!

Ha ha… I’m glad to rock over here and I’m sure more of your readers will rock with their comments too. Let’s look forward for ’em 🙂
