Is Getting Free Stuff Online the Same as Making Money Online?

Free Stuff Online Is For Me – You Too?

If you receive FREE stuff online is it the same as making money online? There are several ways I’ve been getting some free stuff online the past few years. Sometimes I feel like it’s just as good as making money online. Some of the stuff has filled up my bathroom and kitchen with all kinds of supplies.

3 Ways To Get FREE Stuff Online

1) Klout – You never know what perks will become available next from Klout. I’ve gotten some worth $5 from McDonald’s up to $100+ from cosmetic companies. My bathroom is full of great moisterizers and more from Klout perks. A great package recently came from People with a leopard print scarf among many items. One of my favorite Klout Perks was a gift card to Chili’s for $15. Klout Perks Tip: Be sure to open your email asap when you receive a Klout Perk before it is no longer available. Brands only give out so many samples. It may be the best free stuff online you can get today. Of course talk about these perks on the social networks – don’t keep them to yourselves!

free stuff online

2) Influenster –  This one is a little different but once you get the hang of it you can get FREE products sent to you for reviews. They offer a wide variety of products and things for you to review. If you don’t like the product, do let them know why! Honest reviews are the best. You can see my site widget button for Influenster near the bottom of the blog. If you click it you can learn more. After 3 clicks I will have earned another badge as well. The more badges you have the more FREE stuff you may receive from major brands. You can fill out easy to complete surveys and reviews to earn points along the way. You can also get more points for inviting your friends via email. Please contact me if you would like an invite.

3) Buzz Agent – I learned about this one from Tim Bonner’s blog on getting FREE stuff online.  I just got an email the other day on an offer and I had honestly forgotten about them. But I quickly learned if you do reviews on their site you have better chances of getting more stuff for free. It is free for you to sign up. buzz agentAll you need to do is fill out some quick surveys so they can see what campaigns you may match up with. Once you receive your free stuff online be sure to rate it, share it on the various social networks and then more free stuff online may be headed your way in the future. What do YOU have to lose?

Is FREE STUFF ONLINE Taxable?

That is definitely something you will have to ask your tax accountant. Swag is considered income by the IRS from what I’ve read. You can read more here about Gift Bags and the IRS.  Always check with your accountant as to what you need to claim or not for your income taxes. We don’t want the IRS to come knocking on your door.

Do These Websites Take A Lot of Time?

You are probably thinking I have no time, right? I only spend about 15 minutes per week on these. When I do get new products I always take photos of them and share immediately. These 3 websites, Klout, Influemster and Buzz Agent are not a big time sucker like being on the social networks can be.  Once in a while I may do a review of a product if it fits this niche. Otherwise I may jump on Tumblr and do a review there. It’s up to YOU, but if you like getting FREE stuff you will enjoy these 3 ways to get your free stuff online.

Have you been getting any FREE stuff online lately?

  • Lisa thanks for sharing this sites, never knew about Klout perks because I haven’t been on the site frequently thanks for informing me. will just have to go sign up. Thanks Lisa, hope you are having fun day as we celebrate Valentine today. Many love to you

  • Lisa really a superb post about how one can say that receiving free stuff online is also same like earning money….You made me remind about me referring my friends to a site which sends stuff like soups, noodles etc…I used to really love getting a big package of such food items without spending money to buy them…I have started missing them after reading your this post Lisa..I know some people are very big fans of getting free stuff online and it seems that you also are one of them..Isn’t it Lisa??

  • Sure, I suppose.

To me, yes. I have won a lot of things online, so I do consider it as the same as making money online (best example is my current blog – I looked for web hosting contests and joined one, got a free domain too – so, that’s about $100 saved right there :D).

As for Klout, well I have received a few perks (Although, I still haven’t used them.

Anyways, I will check out the other sites (Hopefully, I will remember to). I know you said these take less than 15 mins, but I don’t think I have enough willpower to do that 😉 I do have the time to do it, but I might need the time later on – especially with my upcoming plans, so it’s better not to invest time in anything else.

Anyways, thank you for sharing these, Lisa 😀 Hope you are having a wonderful weekend!

  • Lisa,
These are pretty cool tips. I didn’t realize there were so many legitimate sites that gave out free stuff. I have recently been using Klout – but it seems like I always “run out of Klout” and can’t give someone a K+. They must only allot you a few a day, huh? I’ll have to check out the other ones. Thanks for sharing. Lisa

  • Hi Lisa,

    Getting free stuff rocks! 😛

On a more serious note, I haven’t really paid much attention to Klout. I thought it was just another social media platform but it seems like it does more than just that.

You got me thinking about re-visiting my klout account. Thank you for the heads up on this!

  • Hi Lisa,

Free Stuff online? Not me! The only time I did it was when I started Klout and received a free twitter program that I don’t use. I just don’t like the other offers because I don’t like giving out information that bombards my email. Am I a grouch? lol

However, I do get free stuff when I opt into a product purchased. You know …all those freebies that one gets when purchasing an internet learning curve. That’s about it.

  • Hey Lisa,
In as much as you can’t exchange those freebies for other stuffs (like money will enable you do), I don’t think you can refer to them as making money online. Those items may be good but you can’t pay your rents or other bills with them. Their monetary values are locked up in them. Besides, they may be things you never would have wanted to buy.

BTW, I would love to receive some of these but shipping to my country is what I see as a serious issue 😉

    • Hi Enstine, well if you don’t have to spend money on products you would buy anyways you would have more money to pay the bills right? I’m really referring to those beauty type products I did receive that I would have bought anyways. It freed up my money for other things like bills, especially heat in the winter here 🙂 You are in the UK right Enstine? I know Buzz Agent works there as Tim Bonner uses it. Thanks for your input Enstine and enjoy the rest of your week!

  • OMG! I won some perks on Klout sometime ago and i also have a sports magazine delivered to me every month for the next 12months, i won a Norton antivirus licence for a year among other things. At first i wasn’t sure i was going to recieve them since i stay in Nigeria but was surprised when it arrived in the mails and ever since then i have been very active on Klout looking for more freebies to win.

I will definitely sign up with the other sites you listed here to see if i can win more freebies. I love winning freebies as it saves me the cost of buying them. Thanks for sharing these important sites for us and also sharing this post on kingged.com.

  • Nice share Lisa.

Well I don’t completely agree to the fact that getting free stuffs online is equal to earning money online.

For me it depends completely on the stuff that we are getting. 😉

Well the list you shared are the sites where we have to write reviews and get rewarded by products. But I feel that instead of wasting out time writing reviews of products that we don’t even care of or those that we won’t buy ever, it’s better to utilise the same time doing some work for money.

For me earning money is way better than getting free stuffs. This is just my point of view, there are many others who love to get these stuffs.

    Thanks

  • The line between getting free stuff online and making money online is blurred! It all depends on the expectations of the searcher.

With the details on Klout, Influenster, and Buzz Agent, a lot of people would readily begin to consider these aspects of making online.

These websites used as examples can be accessed ,and just as Kingsley has stated in his comment , would save us from trial and error of getting hoodwinked into scammy free stuffs online.

So many hidden gems out there on the internet. I have Klout set up but never looked at these perks. Probably hard to use most of them outside the US, but will take a look.
The others are also quite interesting, and if I have some downtime I might also have a peek!

Quite a while ago, I picked up a few Klout perks including a license for a free anti-virus subscription for an Adroid. Since then, I’ve been sort of boycotting Klout and I have no idea what perks I may have passed up on. Having said that, I used to thoroughly enjoy taking surveys and getting some freebies. So, this is right up my alley. I think it could be fun.

    Thanks for sharing.

I love getting free sutff. I just got my first product to review and I’m super excited about it.

I’ve missed out on some great Klout perks so now I pay attention to their emails :). Of course as luck would have it, I haven’t gotten any more, LOL.

Thanks for telling us about Influenster and Buzz Agent. I will definitely be contacting you for an invite.

  • Hey Lisa,

Thanks for writing about this. I’d say YES, getting free stuff online can be said to be making money online. Maybe not exactly the same, but somewhat similar.

The fact that you are getting stuff for free that “could” have cost you money to buy is money you are saving. And of course NOT spending money you are supposed to spend, on something you need, is making money, 😉

Jargons and technicalities aside, though, I am sure this post will help lots of people who would want to get stuff for free too. Of course there are lots of such people. Who doesn’t like free stuff? Not me, 🙂

And since there are lots of scammy and fake sites out there promising free stuff, the fact that you have actually got the free stuff from the sites you listed, saves us all the trial and error from time with the scammy or fake ones.

One question though – are certain countries exempted from getting these free stuff from these sites?

Anyway, thanks for writing this again, Lisa. I found it shared on Kingged.com and I “kingged” it. I am certain it will help Kinggers get free stuff too… and in the process help them save money they would have spent buying the stuff… and in the process help them make money. Hope I got the loop right, 🙄

  • I’ve tried all 3 of those Lisa. Biz was my least fav. Influenster was great at first but I found a lack of interest in some of their topics and really haven’t looked at it in awhile. Klout is pretty good as well. I got the People package and like the magazine the best but I definitely wouldn’t spend money on it.

Getting free items is great however, you gotta watch some of those that have hidden clauses. The 3 you mentioned above are perfectly safe. Thanks for sharing this. Just reminded me I need a new Klout for my new Twitter name. 🙂

  • Hey Lisa,

I’m not that big on that kind of stuff. I guess you could say that I use certain products and am really not into trying a lot of stuff. Weird right, especially for a woman but I’m definitely not what you would call normal. LOL!!!

I’m sure if I found something I really liked I would have a change of attitude but I guess with what I’ve got going these days I don’t want to even take out another 15 minutes a week to try. I’d have to get use to them and probably tour a lot more then I should.

Glad you’re getting some good stuff and enjoying yourself. Yay!!!

I find them easy especially Klout since all you do is use the social networks anyways, right? Thanks for coming by Adrienne and maybe if you do get back on Klout for the influence you just did you will get stuff and not have to do anything that you already are NOT doing. Pretty cool. Have a great mid-week!

  • I knew getting free stuff off of the Internet was possible.

I just don’t think I have the time “cliche”.

But it seems you were spending a fraction of the time doing so.

I remember a friend of mine winning a free camera, all while I thought all of these things were “scams”.

But as for me, I’d rather spend 100% of my time building up my business/brand.

Hey, if it works why not.

    Thanks for the post!

I’ve been using BzzAgent for a long time now and I love trying out all the stuff they send me.

It doesn’t take long at all and whilst many of the things you receive aren’t worth a lot, many of them are practical or food-related. Yum Yum!

I’ve never been able to get anything from Klout and I don’t think Influenster is available in the UK.

I’m pretty sure if you get free stuff in the UK it’s not taxable via HM Revenue & Customs.

However, if you accept a gift voucher or get paid money by completing a survey or review then it definitely is.

Sometimes they go what you tweet or share on social networks. My latest one was for a brownie mix as I did a post about burning brownies while reading the Triberr feed 🙂 Funny how they picked up on that one. Thanks for coming by Maxwell and have a wonderful day.
