Blogging in 2014 to Blow Your Readers Out of the Water

Blogging in 2014Blogging in 2014 will be more challenging than ever. Have you formed a plan on how you will improve your own blogging? I’ve been thinking about it for weeks and have come up with many ideas on things I’d like to do better in 2014.  Here are 9 things on my front burner for Inspire to Thrive’s blogging in 2014:

  1. Using Video More – We all have heard and read that video’s are becoming more and more important. If you listen / watch Ms. Ileane she will explain to you how to make the best videos and use of YouTube for your blog. I’m looking to start that for 2014 and purchase some inexpensive equipment to make better videos.
  2. Building The List More – Do you have an email list? Is it growing? I hope to grow mine more in 2014 with a better landing page or a better widget to capture readers attention. I’m torn with the use of pop-ups – I’d love to know your thoughts on that one!
  3. Publish Another eBook –  To help that list of mine grow, I want to publish another eBook or an updated version of my Tweeting Like It’s Second Nature. So much has changed since that first eBook on Twitter that I could easily update it with some time.
  4. Writing Longer Length Posts – This is one I have been steadily working on in 2013 but have not hit the 2,000+ word mark. I don’t want to write that long just to write, it must be a substantial piece. I’ve often read longer posts help with SEO and your blog’s reach. I’d love to test that theory out.
  5. Posting More Often –  I’ve averaged around 2 posts per week in 2013. I’d like to see my blogging in 2014 at 3-4 posts per week.  It is absolutely necessary? No, again it has to be quality over quantity.
  6. Guest Post More – Now this will be hard if I increase my own blog’s posting frequency. This is something to really consider as an option. Currently I do about 1-2 guest posts per month. Could I up it to 3 per month blogging in 2014?
  7. Learning CSS – I’ve been wanting to take a course in CSS so I can code myself more. But life sometimes gets in the way, doesn’t it?  I had been taking classes at a local college working on a certificate program and hoping to get degree in web design. I must admit, I’ve learned more DOING the websites than in any classroom. Experience seems to be the best teacher.
  8. Incorporating Instagram – I’ve been playing with Instagram for 2 years and have not focused it on this blog or my websites. Just my fun nature blog. I may consider changing the direction of that but I need to put a plan into place for it. Instagram has really grown and become more of a marketing tool this past year. Are you using Instragram for your blog?
  9. Improving with Pinterest – Pinterest has worked wonders with my retail websites but not as much as this blog. I want to improve upon that use of Pinterest blogging in 2014. I’ve slowly grown to over 1,000 followers but I know it can be much better. How are you doing with Pinterest for your blog?

  • Hello,

Well for 2014, my resolution for blogging would be focusing more in posting consistency because this year got stuck in posting few article.

  • Well, I finally made it to this post; been saving it up for a bit now. lol

Those are some impressive goals for 2014, but I feel the need to comment on two of them because, well, I’ve kind of been there, at least one one of them.

First, I’d recommend not writing more than 3 articles a week, and if you’re putting out 2 that’s not bad. Yeah, I know some people say to write as much as you can and you’ll improve traffic and that’s true, but engagement dwindles because sometimes people feel overwhelmed when there’s so much. For 3 years my goal was to write 300 posts a year, and I made it every year. But most of my posts might have gotten 3 or 4 comments; heck, not that I do much better now, but they’re seen more now. lol Anyway, I say this especially if you want to keep guest posting as a goal.

Which is the next thing I want to talk about. Sure, I wrote a post about how to guest post, but truthfully, the reason I only write a guest post when I’m asked is because guest posting doesn’t drive traffic or visitors as much as “experts” say it will. The guest post I wrote for Adrienne (you saw that one) only got me 17 visitors from her blog and only 2 people who commented. When I have the time to comment on other people’s blogs more often I drive way more traffic to my blog than that. So, don’t kill yourself over that one.

Wishing you the best in 2014; let’s both get rich and famous! 🙂

    • Hi Mitch – nice to see you here. Oh yes, I don’t think I can go over 3 posts per week, sometimes I have tough time getting 2 posts done in a week of late. At least at this point in time with my mom sick, etc. Do you think comments are better than traffic? I sometimes go back and forth between those two in my mind. I love the interaction it brings and the topics help me to do more posts. But are comments really driving traffic? That’s my quesiton.
I’ve noticed that too with guest posts but if they become regulars to your blog then it may be worth it, no? I will have to see how that goes in the coming year. Thanks for your input on this Mitch as you have been blogging for quite some years now. YES, lets’get rich and famous as long as we basically don’t change Mitch 🙂 Happy New Year to you as well!

      • I really do believe that Lisa and I’ve tested it; wrote a post about it a couple of years ago after writing a guest post on Ileane’s site, having someone interview me for his blog, and of course going out and commenting on lots of blogs. That worked best, probably because commenting on someone else’s blog is personal whereas writing a good guest post helps the owner of the blog more and the interview… well, if his readers knew me better then it probably goes better but that’s the thing about interviews sometimes.

  • This is a wonderful list Lisa and I feel I could start with yours and tweak it a litle. Well, actually, I would trim it because I just don’t seem to accomplish nearly as much as I would like to and I tend to get overwhelmed if I have too many goals.

Video has been on my list for well over a year now and I just don’t get to it. (It’s like I have a mental block against it.) I need to start that for sure. It could end up being a great addition to my blog.

I have never been a fan of pop-ups but I definitely don’t get enough subscriptions. So, I may reconsider that. My main focus this year will be on a redesign of my site with a new look and a responsive design. That is a must do for me.

Thanks so much for sharing this with us and fostering such a great conversation. BTW – I agree with Carolyn. Anytime you would like to guest blog, please contact me. I would love to have you as a guest.

    • Thank you Sherryl. That’s a good point. I will break it down along the way. Video could do that. I don’t watch a lot of them so I don’t plan on doing it often but at least once a month I think would be really good. I’m going to look into the pop up that Neil Patel uses. You are welcome. Oh that would be great Sherryl, thank you. I will definately consider that. I’ve got to start a calender and really plan them out. I hope you have a wonderful Christmas Sherryl.

  • Great, inspirational post, Lisa! 🙂 I’m planning to do so background work around my own blogging over my blogging break.

I think you’re onto something with the video aspect. In fact, as I was writing my Christmas post last week, I compiled a number of images I plan to use to create a video version of the post. 🙂 I’ve also been toying with the idea of inserting an audio plugin for each post, which would be me reading the post. While I like the idea of a per-post video tie-in, it takes a lot of time. The audio… less time, and, perhaps, equally as effective.

As for pop-ups… For me, they’re ineffective because I find them annoying. They get in the way of what I want to see. What I’ve found is effective for me is calls to action within a blog post, or at the tail end of it. The only caveat to that is, make sure it opens in a new tab/window. It drives me bonkers – and is a lost opportunity for additional clicks, and for sharing – when the click-through takes me away from the blog post.

Merry Christmas to you and yours, Lisa! Peaceful blessings. 🙂 xoxo

  • Longer posts will work better as in the longer posts you can target more searchable words most frequently also social media will play an important role. Great post.

  • Great ideas Lisa. I’m looking at some of the same areas – longer posts, more posts, build email list (fighting the pop-up question myself – hate them but keep hearing they work) and write my first eBook! Good luck with it!

  • Philip Verghese 'Ariel'

    Hi Lisa,
It’s really amazing to land here in this page. Lot of information for the bloggers.
This post is indeed a well thought out one, to plan ahead for the New Year activities,
Wonderful list here: I have never tried this video business, sure will have a look at Ms. Ileane’s page.
Building The List More: I think you need not make a list if you are using the Google+ comment option,
it gives a direct link to all our contacts in our email address box, and of course other circles too can easily connect as soon as we click the publish button.
Writing Longer Lengthy Posts: I too have the notion that short and simple is sweet and better and it gives more attention to people in this busy world, I believed this and even advised others to post smaller posts to get the attention of busy people. But this thought here makes me to think the other way round.
Posting more often is a good idea, but we need to keep the quality, that is more important.
Guest post is another way to increase the traffic and attention of many readers.
About Pinterest, I too have an account there but very less involved, I need to re-think on this issue too.
The infographic speaks volume, good points/tips there.
Thank you so much for all these valuable information to try or enter into the New Year 2014
Have a Happy and blessed New Year 2014 to all.
    Keep informed.

    • Thanks Philip and welcome to Inspire to Thrive. Oh yes, Ms. Ileane is really the queen of video. I’m not a big fan of the G+ comment system yet, it’s owned by Google and could be changed or taken down at anytime. That’s why I prefer my own email list. I’m using MailChimp and am happy thus far with them. I have a hard time writing those long ones Philip – I tend to be short and direct. Pinterest is great but you have to go there and be active at least several times per week if not daily. (Pretty much like most of the social networks). You are welcome and have yourself a wonderful holiday and new year Philip!

  • Hi Lisa,
I was keen on building a effective blogging strategy for 2014 and I found this. I guess integrating your blog with videos would e great idea since infographics and videos are now taking place of text blogging.
Publishing posts of 2000+ words is also a boost to SEO. But it is not tough to write and keep every blog post’s length upto that mark. Though I would love to see one from you.
    Thanks for this article.
Vineet Saxena recently posted..3 Mistakes I did With My Blog in 2013My Profile

    • Hi Vineet, I still prefer text myself as I like reading vs watching video’s especially on the go. But I would like to do a video at least 1x monthly for 2014. I like using infographics if they are fresh and relevant. They help me get inspired to write on a topic at times too like this one. 2,000 is tough for me, I’m more of a short, sweet and to the point kind of writer. But I have lengthened most of mine in 2013. I hope I can do several with 2,000+ in the coming year, maybe one at 3,000+. You are welcome and have a wonderful holiday!

  • Great ideas to ramp up your blogging in 2014, Lisa! I can tell you from experience that 2000+ word posts don’t draw more search engine traffic (or any other kinds). If a topic needs to be covered in depth, feel free to write a long article, but that probably should be the only reason you increase the length of your blog posts.

I don’t have as many followers as you on Pinterest but I get a ton of traffic from that site. I pin to group boards when possible that gives me a reach far beyond my followers.

You are welcome to guest post at The Wonder of Tech anytime!

I started using an editorial calendar in 2013 and wonder how I did without it!

My goal for 2014 is to get a new look for my blog, perhaps with a new theme and header picture.

I also wish I could learn CSS. Maybe someday?

Happy 2014 to you and your blog, Lisa!

I get a lot from Pinterest on my retail site and have more followers there, over 1270 vs my personal one just over 1,000 followers. Thankes – I may take you up on that in 2014 Carolyn. An editorial calendar is something I’ve toyed with. I bet it does keep you focused better. I’m hoping I learn some CSS in the coming year. • I am more a reader of blogs than a blogger. Feedly is kept open on my laptop 24-7. As such, I have to comment that I hate the move towards video blogs. I never watch them. Why should I spend the time watching something that I could read in a fraction of the time?

    • Elaine, I hear you 🙂 maybe I won’t include them in post or at the end. I don’t watch many myself and love to have the option. I read a lot on mobile in public so video is a no no at that time. Thanks for your feedback and welcome to Inspire To Thrive. Have a great weekend!

  • Hi Lisa,

This is a type of blog posts that everybody on the net seems to like it. There are many interesting things here. Let us see:

    1. Using more videos

Yes, it will probably help. What kind of videos do you think generate more interest in the online marketing world? How to videos? Interviews? Product reviews?

    2. Building a list

This is very important, indeed. I think it is more important even than social media. As Derek Halpern once said: “If you are not building a list now, you are an idiot.”

I am seriously consider to narrow my niche to list building. It is definitely based on a fundamental human need: the need to have more subscribers and customers. The competition is big but practically everybody is interested in the topic so there are people willing to spend money there.

What do you think of list building as an independent niche?

    3. Pop ups

From all the pop ups I have ever seen, I found that only one type is the least annoying of all. It is that kind of popup that appears at the bottom of the page / post and does not actually pop up. It just “flows”, rises, slowly from the bottom in a gentle and no intrusive manner. And it stays at the bottom. Did you see such kind of pop ups? Would you use this type?

    4. Publishing your own ebook

I definitely think a new version of your book is a wonderful idea. Not only things have changed in the Twitter world, but also you need to add some things in the old version: more content, pictures (I do not remember any pictures in that ebook), new links, an attractive format. The old version is too simple and you need to create a new one. Do it.

    5. Writing longer posts

I am definitely a fan of longer posts. You cannot provide substance in 300 words. Even with 500 it is difficult. That old saying: “Short sweet and to the point” is not true anymore.

    Have a wonderful day
silviu recently posted..Newbie Guide. How to Check the Pagerank of Your SiteMy Profile

    • Hi Silviu, I am thinking more of how to video’s. As things become new in SEO or Social I can share how to do them. I had not thought of interview videos but that’s an interesting idea, thank you. I had not thought of list building as an independent niche but I suppose it could be, so many ways of going about it. I would agree in the pop ups and I would use it for my list building. Thanks for the feedback on the eBook and I agree. I believe I had one image but it may have been so small it didn’t stick, excellent points Silviu. I still like short and sweet sometimes but I am finding most of my posts that are now short are 700-800 words. I guess that is a good thing. T
hanks for your much thoughout feedback Silviu. I hope you enjoy your weekend as mine is starting here.

  • Hi Lisa,

Seems you have been working on your future plans than you ever did 😉 Sounds like you already done with planning and looking forward to an exciting new year.

I’d love to see you on videos Lisa 🙂 As you followed the tips on creating YouTube videos, you may find it’s rather easy to get on with. Well, practice makes you perfect. Isn’t it? May be you already working on your YouTube channel. Looking forward to your videos dear 🙂

Another eBook is a BIG plan 🙂 As you have been through and embraced many experiences, I believe this time it’s gonna come in a different way. May be a surprise?

Anyway, pop-ups have been something I have been ignoring though Lisa. If I land on a blog with pop-up, I just wanna get rid of it as quickly as possible. Never read what’s on it either. May be placing on header + footer can be another alternative. Isn’t it? Whatever we might suggest or say, it’s always best to test it out if you really wanna go with 🙂 So you can decide what’s better with conversion rate.

Gosh… You can find so many resources online for CSS Lisa 🙂 Videos, ebooks, websites and so many. The things about coding is, you always need to practice and learn through experience. References won’t help you unless you follow 😉 Don’t afraid of failing, ’cause it’s a part of learning code.

BTW I never paid attention on length of posts so far except for some guest posts though 🙂 May be, I’ll continue to follow the trait and I feel it might find as part of my blogging style. We all have one, eh?

Wishing you all the best for your plan Lisa 🙂 It seems videos, lists, ebook and CSS are the ones gonna steal your time next year!

You have a fabulous weekend ahead dear!

I’m hoping to update the Twitter one as so much as changed since I first wrote it. Hope to make it longer as well. I kinda like the footer idea Mayura. I’m going to look into that and Neil Patel’s. Oh yes, afraid of failing and taking the whole site down with it does run through my mind Mayura. I’m not a code master like you my friend – who make it seem so easy. But with practice again I bet it can be, right? Thanks for coming by and have a wonderful weekend there that is probably underway already!

lol 😀 I’m still mastering the code Lisa. Being fond of ’em is helpful. So many stuff to learn and no use of learning what we don’t make use of either.

I have no doubt that you gonna master coding too dear 🙂 No master made it without practicing it! The more you do, the better you will be 🙂 Now it’s so easy with online editors where you can play with code without having to any piece of software. No need to worry about mistakes as they can even offer suggestions 🙂

Really glad to hear your mom back home too! You have a lovely weekend @ sweet home dear 🙂

I’ve been wanting to make some changes for the new year and finally decided to do it. With all going on in my personal life, something has to give so I’ll be giving up one blog. I’ve been wanting to do it and now received my “sign” that it’s time to let go and focus on more where I can help and network with women. Of course, it’s not going to happen overnight. I need to gain a little stability in my personal life before I tackle my plans but I do foresee some changes for myself as well. Hopefully for the better.

    Rock it out gf!

    • Thanks Bren, I’m sure hoping anyways 🙂 Which blog will you give up? I always say, wait and it can stay stale for a while instead of totally giving up because you may change your mind in the coming months. Stability is hard to come by these days…but something to strive for, for sure! Thanks for comin by Bren and have a great weekend ahead.

Hope you’re having a great weekend!

        • Hi Bren, well hang on til the hosting term ends before making a decison. No harm right? I think you pressure yourself too much – that you have to post each week or so. There have been times I’ve missed on my scrubs one and I give myself a break. It’s better to write when you are in the mood and have something good to write about. I’m sure eventually you will find that too. This time of year and with other things going on, makes it REALLY hard for sure! Weekend half way done, I should get to my wrapping now. Been online to unwind from long day of errands and cleaning 🙂

I love what you are setting yourself out to do in 2014. I think videos is one that is one on everyone’s list. One goal I set out to do this year was to do 5 blog posts per week. I started doing this back in March and I plan on scaling back a little on the writing and doing more videos in conjunction with that. Good see that you’re planning to increase your posting from 2 to 3-4 per week. That sounds like an excellent plan! As far as guest blog posting, I’ve probably done about 10 this year. I think 2-3 per week is optimal unless you don’t care about comments. I like getting to know my readers via the comments and they give me ideas for what to write about next. You’ve done the most of all my readers on the guest posts, how is that working for you? Do you notice more visits because of it and backlinks? Maybe you could do a guest post here on that 🙂 Thanks for coming by and sharing Nate, have a wonderful weekend ahead.

  • I told myself earlier this year that I need to make more videos for YouTube. I think I made 2 or 3 and that was about it for the years. I have 7 total if I remember right, and I have had my YouTube account for 7 years. So I guess that is 1 per year average.

For me they are a time-consuming process to make. Maybe I am a little picky when it comes to editing compared to most people, but I spend a couple hours editing and processing them.

Right now my computer desktop is just cluttered with files all over the place and I think it would take me a few days to clean that up before I could even make one. So I keep putting it off because I am afraid I will lose or misplace a file.

Videos are great if you have the time, equipment, and software available. One of these days I am going to work on making some more too, but then again I might be saying the same thing when December 2014 comes around.

That sounds like my desk and I’m moving from kitchen to an office room soon but it needs a major cleaning. I think if I get a proper microphone I will do it. My laptop doesn’t cut it and you can’t hear me well with it. Let’s some how many videos we can do in 2014 Ray 🙂 Thanks for coming by and sharing here.

  • Great list, Lisa.

Some of these are definitely on my list – like video and ebooks (I am also planning to write Kindle Books).

Learning CSS. Well, that was definitely on my list (for this year). I tried to do it many times, but didn’t have enough motivation to do it. I finally did it last week. I used Codecademy to learn the basics (It’s just the basics, but it’s a start right? There aren’t any advanced CSS lessons, so it’s all up to ‘experimenting’ now). I might start a test site (sub domain) – just for learning and experimenting with coding. So, I don’t have to worry about breaking anything 😀

I just started PHP on Monday. I have heard that PHP is one of the complex coding languages (it definitely looks harder), so it will take me a few months. But, I am up for it (30 mins a day should do it).

As for posting frequency (and guest posting), I am kind of skeptical whether I can do it next week (because of classes). I just transferred to another university, so I am not entirely sure how my schedule will work.

Anyways, thank you for sharing your goals, Lisa 🙂 Appreciate it!

    • Hi Jeevan, okay, what’s the diffeerence with Kindle books – I must ask. My eBook is on my Kindle. (Curious) You too using that like Tim Bonner. Interesting. I should try it out. Oh yes, Mayura uses PHP and I think he’s a genius with coding. 30 minutes a day sounds like a great idea so you don’t get overwhelmed and yet you are doing something about it. How much longer of school do you have Jeevan? You are welcome, I hope it got you thinking more at least. Looking forward to that new blog of yours soon.

  • Hi Lisa,

Great tips. I haven’t thought that much about what I’ll be doing different in 2014, but I’ve been thinking a lot about linkbuilding and how I can get more backlinks. And, one of the methods I’m thinking about using is to write more guest posts. I don’t know how many I wrote in 2013, but maybe 2 or 3 posts, and that’s it.

I’ll definitively plan my content a lot better than I did this year. I have an editorial calendar, but I hardly use it the way I should. I should be planning a lot better and for many weeks into the future.

I have about 5 posts started but haven’t finished due to mom being in hospital and the time I need to do more research on them. This one came easily because it was in my head for weeks. And I like that I can come back to it and get myself moving 🙂 I hope you have a wonderful weekend Jens and thanks for coming by with your input on this post.

  • Hi Lisa

That sounds like a great plan for the future Lisa.

I had on my list for 2013 that I’d do some videos (or at least start doing some). I haven’t done one. That’s a really disappointing result but I hope I won’t be so camera shy next year.

The list building for me is pretty slow as well. It’s improved since I changed the opt in box recently but still nothing to write home about.

I do have a pop up on my site but it only shows once every 30 days to anyone that visits. I may have it show more often than that as I know how good it can be for sign ups.

I’m pretty sure if people like Neil Patel are using it, then the conversions in sales must be pretty good too.

I did a free course with Codecademy on CSS and it’s enabled me to add quite a bit of custom CSS to my site. I really enjoy that stuff!

Guest posting hasn’t really been on my radar much because I struggle sometimes to write two blog posts a week. If I then needed to write a guest post I’d be demented! I know I’m missing a trick there but at the same time, it can also be tricky when it comes to SEO since Google aren’t really too keen on them if overused.

I know you’ll have a brilliant 2014 Lisa! At least, I’m going to try my best to make it a good 2014 for you all the way over the other side of the pond!

I’ve got to check Neil’s out. I’ve heard of that course online. I may check it out, though I like the classroom setting vs online. I took an online class once for Photoshop and know I would have done better if it was in the classroom vs. online. I get by with it. I hope you are right Tim on my 2014 – I must get moving into gear to make it happen 🙂 I hope you and your family have a great weekend and a Merry Christmas, can’t believe it is almost here. Guest posting will be another tactic I will put more effort into. Just finding the time to get writing.

  • Hi Lisa,

These are excellent ideas, and I think you’re right in saying that blogging’s going to continue to get more challenging in the years ahead.

I’m full of admiration for your goal to publish several times a week – I really couldn’t manage that. I think it’s a great idea to learn coding – bloggers who have that skill have an enormous advantage. It’s also a good idea to update your Twitter book – that’s the trouble with writing books or making videos about that kind of topic – things are changing all the time and they can so quickly go out of date.

As for me, I don’t have any great plans for my blog – I think I’m just going to keep it ticking over next year, because my main objective for 2014 is to get some fiction published on Kindle – I have a short story that’s almost ready to go, which I’m planning to publish in early January, and I’ve just started another. That’s my number one priority at the moment. Not sure how my blog’s going to fit into all that – might have to create a new section on creative writing 😉

Good luck with all your objectives, Lisa – as Sue Price says, you’re impressively well organised 🙂

No, I’m a Kindle virgin – this will be my first published book, so I’ve got lots to learn along the way. I’ve had a great cover made on Fiverr, which is one big hurdle crossed, just got to finish editing and proofreading it, then format and upload it and figure out the KDP scheme, because I want to make it available for free for a few days, with a view to getting some reviews. Reckon I’ll be on a steep learning curve!

I’ve already decided on how my blogging journey is going to take a new dimension. Like you, I’ve decided some changes need to be made!

For one (like you), I averaged 2 posts a week. That is to be no more: I have decided to be blogging everyday henceforth.

I have also decided to try out the article sharing sites more. I really did not use them in 2013 and I believe 2014 is a great time to start.

Of course, monetization 😀 I’m going to creatively looking at ways that would make my blog yield more results without compromising quality or user experience.

  • Hey Lisa
So many questions to answer! I will try to answer a few at least.
Pinterest has been working for me sometimes overtaking Twitter (on a good day for Pinterest and a bad day for Twitter). I need to write some posts on how I do that at some point.
List Building is killing me. I only get about 5 signups a week if I am lucky. And I offer various things, but none seem to get anyone’s attention. So I am also looking to change this big time. Maybe when I am famous next year, it will get better :>
I definitely want to guest post more strategically early in 2014, once i have my video course to promote – should be ready soon!
And video is also something I need to do more of (or podcasting) – thinking about a theme for that. New audiences to reach and so on.
    Ah, so many possibilities.
And learning CSS – Tick! Part of my job. So if you need any help with it, let me know. Always happy to help
have a great holiday season and 2014!

My major goal for my business is to work smarter in 2014. And then I want to do a give away product. I have had a few but have never been happy with them so that is one of my first things to accomplish.

I have a lot of your goals too.

I have an eBook that I wanted to publish on my blog back in September, but since that never happened I thought that I will do it in January.

I also want to use more videos on my post this coming year.

While my post are not short, they are not 2000+ word either, but they are a good 1200-1500 words though. I also wonder if it would make a different to publish real long post. But for now I can’t see posting more than once a week due to my 3 blogs. No way!

I also want to increase my guest posting, but this time I am going to really focus on big blogs for big results. I know it’s going to be a challenge, but it’s one I’ve got to put my might into.

Thank you for those great ideas you gave me in looking to improve my blogging, and good luck on your own goals.

  • Hi Lisa,

It sounds like you have a great plan for 2014 and I wish you all the best!

I just posted my first video on You Tube. I got a message saying the upload could go faster if I used iMovie or some other program…which I didn’t know so as you can see I have a lot to learn but I’m willing to. I’m going to check out Ms. Ileane post and get my learn on :).

I do have an email list and slowly she grows. I’m hoping my list will grow too. I’ve been getting more these last two months so I’m hoping that’s trend continues into 2014.

Wow your second eBook. That’s awesome Lisa. Shewt I’m still not done with my first one. But like you said life gets in the way and things just end up on the backburner.

Writing longer posts….hm. I gotta think about that one LOL. Just kidding. I just go with the flow and after my edits I usually end up with a lengthy post but it’s worth the effort to try.

Guest posting has been a great experience. I’m hoping to get guest post opportunities for my second blog in 2014. Finger’s crossed.

I would love to learn HTML in 2014. In fact I insist on it :).

I haven’t incorporated instagram on my blog. You gave me an idea to for my mom blog. I need to pay more attention to Pinterest too.

Hm…sounds like we have some of the same goals. We should do a Facecook group called Blogger Resolutions Support Group…we can help other bloggers with the same resolutions and share resources and ideas, more importantly encouragement. Hey I like the sound of this, don’t you?

I was checking out the stats on the infographic and the one thing I want to do in 2014 is promote my blogs more often. I’m at a 90/10 so I want to take it to 80/20 for balance.

Encouraging post Lisa! Here’s to a kick az 2014 girlfriend!

I love how you’ve expressed your goals as ideas for others to make improvement on. At this point, I don’t know if my schedule will permit including videos, although I do understand the value.

As to your 5th point, I think that really is subjective. Without thinking about length of post, I naturally started to write longer posts. It’s a tremendous amount of time and energy to keep a full-time blogging schedule. I aim for quality over quantity and intend to stay with a Monday and Thursday post in 2014.

So you asked about popups and although I hear they convert more, your loyal readers will find them more annoying. Not one darn place have I read how well those new subscribers convert into paying customers. I think some people opt-in because they don’t know how to close the darn box yet they aren’t quality subscribers. That’s just my thought but what do I know right! LOL!!!

I’ve been dragging myself this month and just have not been able to get myself going. Just have a lot going offline and thinking of my loved ones that are no longer with us. Just hard to think of the future at this moment but I need to get it in gear. I’ve been dragging my feet about a few things myself and I need to really just sit down and make a plan.

Thank you for giving me that boost I need. I’m going to start feeling guilty if I don’t.
