Are You Hitting The Google Plus Button Now Or Are You Still Waiting?

Why The Google Plus Button Is Good For Your Blog

Google Plus ButtonIt’s been a long time since I’ve talked about Google Plus here at Inspire to Thrive. I have been reading many posts of how your blog or website can be found on page 1 of Google in the search results by hitting the Google Plus button more often and interacting with others. Are you using the Google plus button in your social sharing today? Read on and learn why it can be beneficial for your blog or website and how to improve using Google+ for 2014. It sure may beat using Facebook with their recent algorithm changes and no one seeing all your posts anymore.

Who Is Using Google Plus Amazingly?

Michael Q. Todd – Michael is from Japan with over 54,000 in his circles. He recently did a post about how Google plus that put him on the first page of Google for search terms and rank 2nd or 3rd in just 3 days. He points out that it was the use of the correct words in his description and the use of hashtags that made it work. Are you using hashtags on Google plus yet? This was the post that really inspired me and maybe it will you too to use Google plus more often. He also an awesome networker on Twitter and Triberr.

Peg Fitzpatrick -Peg is a master at social media on all channels but I love what she is doing on Google Plus. It’s not all business, she also shares some personal and witty things with her followers. Isn’t this a cute post? I love when people keep it real on social media.

Ed King  – Ed is a local blogger and photographer here in Rhode Island. I’ve noticed many shares of his beautiful photos and recently saw how many in his circles. (over 26,000!) I once did a hangout with him and another local person. He is using Google+ to the maximum.

Some How To Tips Using The Google Plus Button sharing Google Plus Circles

  • Hit the Plus Button – It shows that you like a post or page on a website.
  • Share – When you find really great information for your followers. You can share publicly or pick and choose your circles.
  • Add People – Add people to your circles. Create new circles with specific names / tag lines.
  • Share you circles with others – See the picture here on the side of how to do it if you have not already.
  • Log in Daily – Success will not happen overnight but you must log in daily or at least several times per week to grow your Google plus account.
  • Join a Hangout – Google hangouts are a great way to connect with others on the network. You can meet people via video and if some people cannot make it, they can watch the video later. The folks from Hot Blog Tips are masters of hangouts and you can join them on Sundays.
  • Enroll in Communities or Start One – Communities are great on Google+. It’s my place to go when I have technical questions. Google Plus really has the smartest people. There are many communities there to choose from so be careful not to join too many as you may never get back to them all.
  • Rinse and Repeat – Keep it going and you will see results. It’s like any other social network in that respect, you must use it to ensure success or you will lose the momentum you have started to build.
  • Use The Google Plus Button On Your Website/Blog and Email – Be sure to share your Google Plus button everywhere on your site and marketing materials. Let people know you are there on Google Plus!

I have been using google plus for quite a while now, but have never used hashtags so far. I just shared and did not write any other additional comment or description. Though I don’t have so many people in my circle so far, it did not show so much effect on the SERPs. However since we are not doing any controlled experiments, like don’t do anything other than using google plus with hashtags and without hashtags to different similar websites and compare the results, we cannot be sure if the real reason was this one. Anyways, if there is a huge effect like this, other than twitter maybe commentluv can also add google plus feature to their panels and people can reach to more people’s circles as well.

Hi Lisa, great post. Earlier I ignored Google+ and not keen to use it for my projects. Even I completely neglect it over Reddit and Facebook. Somehow I realize and started experimenting on it.

My experience amazed me. The result was really surprising for me as a late adopter. But since then I never even forgot to use G+. It is my first priority over any social media.

Thanks for the article Lisa 😀

It is not a secret that Google plus is important for search engine ranking. Everyone should try to improve engagement in their Google plus profile.

You know that there are many like exchange websites are available to increase followers or plus one for your Google plus profile. However this practice can trigger the spam alert. According my personal experience following others is one of the main sources of gaining followers. Also adding your Google plus profile/page badge in website is a good idea.

    Best Regards

First I planned to use google plus effective in my social media marketing plan, but whenever i open google plus, it loads dead slowly because of their heavy graphical user interface, and many features, they should work on their design and layout urgently. Many normal users not using it because of heavy design, and I agree that its great for effective social media optimization.

    Hi Lisa,

    A Happy New Year!

Well, after all those changes in Facebook, Gplus became more attractive. It will take some time, probably 1-2 years until Gplus will become no.1 and things will change again but, until then, it is time to focus our efforts more there.

The first thing that is needed is a better Gplus guide. How to use all those hashtags in Gplus? How to drive more traffic and how to attract more visitors? How to become like Michael Todd? This is an important need and if you know a good guide, please tell us. Or maybe you can write one yourself.

Then we must find the real authorities on Gplus. Michael Todd must be very good at what he is doing but if he is not in my niche… .

Congratulations for the infographic. Very nice. More than enough to change your point of view. I am on Gplus but I understand the need to transfer more of my business there.

    Have a wonderful day

Hi Silviu, Interesting you ask that question about hashtags on Google+, I’m working on a post that includes that topic – hopefully it will be ready Monday morning. You are right that we can learn well from those that do well on Google+ – you can circle them even if not in your niche to see what they do, etc. A great way to learn! I’ve started to use Google+ more the past several days and hope it turns into a habit like Facebook once did. Twitter is still my habit, that would be a tough one to break if things really changed on that network. I truly believe we can’t put all our social eggs in one basket alone. Thanks for coming by and for your input Silviu. I hope you have a great weekend.

  • Lisa thanks for sharing. Concerning Google plus am becoming more active on the platform and have started engaging with other people on the platform.

This has led to a gradual increase as you said. Hoping to do more in the new year especially with regards to joining communities. Have seen one guy with 525000 followers and am like when will I get there considering the fact that my followers count is not up to 100.

I however have the believe that by connecting with more influencers and by providing valuable comments on Google Plus the sky is just the starting point.

Great to hear from you Lisa. Happy New Year.

It did take awhile to get used to. I find it easier to build than Twitter. People on Google Plus seem to be more responsible. Hi Lisa,

Gosh… It’s New Year! Are you still blogging? 😯 lol… Ha ha,,, I know ya dear 😉

Well, Google +1 button doing its magic 😉 Remember, when Google +1 button started to roll out? It was a mystery. However we knew it’s gonna aid the search engine industry though.

I have no doubt that Google+ gonna be a BIG hit in 2014 and +1 button gonna be one of most clicked buttons Lisa 🙂 I already started to share more stories on Google+ than Facebook, and learnt it sent more readers than Facebook did. Google+ communities are indeed a wonderful way to get more traffic and I love how Google+ handle it better than Facebook groups 🙂

However, YET we shouldn’t put all eggs in one basket though. Don’t you agree? 🙂 I believe, for bloggers, their blog is what they need to concentrate more on instead of spending lot of time on social platforms. When social networks start to diminish, followers go along. Better have ’em stick to our blogs 🙂

Wish you and your family a very Happy New Year Lisa! Especially, better health and more happiness for your mom 🙂

I think that we should take the # of Google+ users with a grain of salt, due to the fact that if you have a Gmail account, aren’t you having an Google+ account too? I started out to use Google+ and +1 feature as a bookmarking service. Using the +1 button will have an impact on the search results. The question is: will Google+ be as ingrained in your the daily life as Facebook in the long run?

Thank you Lisa for putting this great post together,
Let’s not forget that Google+ is owned by Google the world’s biggest search engine and so Google controls the SEO world and normes, so it would make sense that they would want to promote their own products and give it a superiority over other social media sites.
Google+ is more SEO friendly, and what’s great about it is that you can add your business to Google Maps and connect it to your Google+ page, and also Youtube is the world ‘s second biggest search engine also owned by Google and connected to your Google+ as well,
it’s not just the plus one button, also there’s something called Google reviews, where you can review a business on Google Maps, it is a huge boost.
Ask your clients and Friends to review your business on Google and to plus one your web page it is the best SEO optimization step you can make!

I was thinking FB. I am planning to delete my FB page..I haven’t invested much into it, and at this point, it seems to be that FB doesn’t care about small businesses. So, I thinking of investing that time in some other site, and G+ seems to be the perfect candidate.

Since Google+ came to being I was there! Then came the communities and I jumped on that one too. It is a great platform especially with the hangouts. I use Google+ Hangouts often for business, and even used it during the holidays to visit my family members….what a learning curve that was lol!

Although it went through some changes, we just have to go with the flow. The only thing that is getting a little too crazy is people miss using it lately telling me to buy this or that. But hey, that all comes with the turf. We went through this on Facebook and eliminated that sort of stuff and we can clean up our Google+ the same way.

Perhaps there’s no count limit, so one can add a lot of related tags, and when you share the post on communities, add the other tags that you hadn’t used earlier, so your reach does widen a great deal. It certainly makes a lot of difference, though usually per community I use 2-3 different tags than I shared on an earlier community. Yes – takes 1-2 hours with ease, per post – but then who said it was all easy 🙂
