Content Curation Made Simple to Promote Your Blog Posts
Content Curation Can Help Spread Your Blog Posts in a Simple Way
Content curation is one of the buzz words in the new year. One of my New Year’s resolutions was to work smarter and not harder. I had been sifting through Google Analytics to see what had been working for this blog and found Scoop.it and Paper.li to be in the top 50. Scoop.it at 16 and Paper.li at 42. Paper.li was an easy 5 minute set up and viola you are done! I wondered why I had not done it sooner. But does that mean you should forget about it?
Curating Content with Paper.li
Content curation is a great way to share your favorite blogs posts by others and your own. It is similar to social media in that you should follow the 80/20 rule. Share 80% of others content and 20% of your own.
You can set your own Paper.li within minutes. There is a premium version now available that you could put in your newsletters for $9 per month. The premium versions allows you to get rid of the ads you see like mine above and includes more spots for branding. The thing that made me start with Paper.li was the mentions I was receiving in others editions.
Ilka’s Internet Marketing Daily is out! paper.li/ilkaflood/1306… ▸ Top stories today via @lisapatb @ericabrooks @coachmirdza
— Ilka Flood (@ilkaflood) December 28, 2012
Who doesn’t like a mention on Twitter? Now for 2013 I am striving to mention more people that are on my Paper.li to see if I can move the needle of the #42 spot of traffic in Google Analytics. It will be a simple test. That means just one extra tweet or share on Facebook or Google Plus per day. Easy right?
The New and Improved Scoop.it
Scoop.it is another content curation website that’s been around a while. You can read a post on Scoop.it when I first joined a year ago. I learned about Scoop.it from Ms. Ileane. She loves it, you can read more what she has to say here. It’s not a place I visit daily but with their new mobile app it makes it even easier. It’s a quick and fast way to read some of your favorite blog posts by others and meet some new bloggers. You can have 5 topics with the FREE version and yes they offer a premium version too.
Introducing the New Listly
I came across this content curation site in doing some research and had heard of Nick Kellet It is similar to Scoop.it and maybe even a little easier to use. You log in via Twitter or Facebook, no need for passwords. (How many more do you really want?) You can vote stories up or down and leave comments. You can add your own posts to topics or start your own topic. There is bookmarklet that you can upload to your browser.
There are many more content curation websites out there that you can visit such as trapt!, kweeper, netvibes, your version, and of course Pinterest to name just a few.
Do you think content curation websites will take off big in 2013 as the social websites have for bloggers?

Hi Lisa,
Very informative post and haven’t heard of Listly dear
I remember you were saying that Scoop.it needs some time to establish and gain followers but it worked for you. Well, I haven’t made a big contribution to content curation and yet it has a lower priority from my view though.
I’m much focused in things that worked for me so far and some more experiments too. Well, that could be Scoop.it but not sure yet. I’ve totally removed affiliates from my blog and much concentrate in offering more services + improving features for the readers on the blog
I really believe Google+ will bloom much more and if critical competition arise, Social Media will be top the list
But not gonna be too dependent and it’s always better to be stand alone with blog ’cause that’s where our Critical Success Factor lies. right?
Cheers…

We never know when those social media websites will make major changes that would impact us negatively or start to charge for everything. Your blog sure has come a long way Mayura since my first visit. It’s a great source of info for bloggers. It will exciting to see where 2013 will take us.

Hey Lisa,
I haven’t tried either of these content curation services although I use to check them out when I was mentioned. I found some of them way too hard for me to even find where my post was so I eventually just gave that up. I much prefer visiting the blogs themselves and to be honest with you, I have way more to read then I have time for right now.
I know they are both popular sites so I’m sure they will continue to grow. Unfortunately, I’m not going to pay for this type of service and I have a feeling there are a lot more people like me that won’t go that route either.
Will be anxious though to see how traffic stacks up with either of these as the year progresses. Good luck with them both.

I must say I have not really thought about curating though I have heard of it so many times. In fact, I have heard it from the Content Marketing Institute that content curation is the next thing, still I’m a little skeptical about it. My concerns have to do with the content duplication of a thing. Don’t you think this could affect rankings?
Chadrack recently posted..Content Marketing: 2013, the Year of the Helpers!
It’s more about sharing Chadrack and the one with the original content does have the most SEO “juice”. That is a good question though.

Lisa recently posted..Content Curation Made Simple to Promote Your Blog Posts
Glad to hear that.
Does it mean therefore that you try and put more of your content out there and let others ‘push’ it around for you or, is it about you taking (curating) content that interest you and then publishing it on your blog/site?
You know it’s the second idea that I understand it to be. And if it is so, no matter the sharing idea in it the SEO effect may over-shadow the gains. You know, there may be traffic from all these but, like every other schemes that demands ‘you scratch my back I scratch your back’, that traffic may not mean much.
I think I’m still getting it wrong, right? Well, I love some more explanations because I’m looking to find some other sources of traffic this year but I’m the type that does not like rushing into things until I know what I’m doing!
Chadrack recently posted..Content Marketing: 2013, the Year of the Helpers!
Yes Chadrack, it’s more about traffic not copying or duplicating content. It’s like a Pinterest board in a way. You can see everything in the topics you curate. You get 5 FREE topics on the FREE account. You then can share them via the social networks too. It’s pretty quick and easy too. Not time consuming. Give it a shot, you should be able to set it up and go in less than 30 minutes. Thanks for your good questions and let me know how you make out.

Content curation does look interesting, Lisa.
Not sure how effective it would turn out to be, though…
Have heard of the sites you mention. Whether they would prove useful as part of a strategy for gaining more website traffic, and their ability to promote content , is the main question… Considering there are thousands of social sites out there, it may be better to only focus on those that bring noticeable results, rather than spend all day going back and forth between these sites, whilst a number of on site chores go unattended….
As much as Social sites are getting a big “thumbs up” from Google at present, I am not overly convinced of their effectiveness.
I do believe in the importance of getting your content out there, and many of these sites can provide a useful platform for doing this….
Though, I often read many posts where site owners invested heavily for a prolonged period on a number of well known social hubs, yet, the return for the time and effort they invested was hardly worth it….
Others seem to do far better with their time invested on social sites, so I guess it will depend on an individuals own experiences as to how effective using social sites is perceived….
Danny recently posted..White Hat Seo What Is It and What Is Black Hat SEO?
Danny, it does depend on which niche and which social site. I have found some useless and others very good. I have heard Scoop.it drives a lot of traffic and I have seen some from it, I’m not on it every day so that could be why I don’t see a lot yet. Find the right social site, spend the time there and the results should follow. Just visit weekly and post your own stuff will not do a thing for you.

Lisa recently posted..Content Curation Made Simple to Promote Your Blog Posts
I’m sure you’ve heard a lot of buzz about “content curation”, but like me, you weren’t really sure what it was. Let’s just start off by defining the words separately. According to dictionary.com, Content is defined as: substantive information or creative material viewed in contrast to its actual or potential manner of presentation. To water that down into simpler English, content is the cool ideas you can find in stuff.
