Follow Friday Is Back and Newly Redesigned
Follow Friday Is Like A Party On Twitter
Did you miss Follow Friday the last 2 weeks? I sure did. I tried other ways to show appreciation for my favorite peeps over on Twitter but it wasn’t the same. Follow Friday was always so easy to look up your favorite peeps and give them a special shout out. Now Follow Friday is a new and up and running. Just in time for Friday!
This made my morning (even as I feel like I have a fever) and I’m sure it will make your Friday easier over on Twitter.
Follow Friday offers these great tips too:
- Don’t recommend more than 10 users in the same day.
- Recommend only one user per tweet.
- Explain why you recommend each user, make it useful for your followers (and meaningful to the peep you are referring).
- Keep the hashtag (#FF or #followfriday) at the beginning of the tweet.
I find the last one interesting because I always used it at the end of my tweets. I’m not sure I agree with the first one either. I try to recommend many on Friday’s. The more followers you have the more you can add in a day – would you agree? I do like the #2 and #3 tip. I’ve been using Follow Friday for almost 2 years now and love the interactions it can bring about.
Here are some New Features of Follow Friday:
- You Usually Recommend – it tells you who you have recommended in the past.
- Your Recommenders – who usually recommends you – nice one!
- Favs – Peeps you have favorited along the way.
- Mentioned By You – This goes by the most mentions by you.
- Mentioned By Others – Great way to know who mentions you the most on Twitter.
- Best Friends of the Week – New feature I love. See the tweet below!
- Profile - Fill out your profile with 3 keywords.
My best friends of the week @pibblesnme @mayuradesilva @richlymiddlecla @thenewmodernmom Check yours followfriday.com/ffhelper

There will be more features coming to this app like reports which are part of their new premium paid version (a pay per follower pricing) and ranking which now shows “we can’t generate your timeline recommendations while we are computing the ranking, please try again tomorrow.”
Update: It’s the Follow Friday Tool as pointed out on Twitter -
@thesimonjordan @lisapatb Are you referring to FollowFridayHelper tool or just Follow Fridays in general? Lisa – you didn’t mention in blog.

Do you use Follow Friday every week and will you use the new re-designed version of Follow Friday?

Hi Lisa,
I’ve been using FollowFriday since you introduced it
Love the interaction over Twitter always and sometimes a great way to hear from tweeps not active over Twitter too. Wouldn’t you agree?
I think recommending one user per tweet is nice but I believe it’s better having a long period between ‘em
Else it might feel someone doing it just because having it and on the other end it would be boring after all seeing same tweet always, no?
Also we would have to spend lot of time if we have lot of followers there too. I think it’s much better to combine #2 and #3 there not to lose interest
Nice finding Lisa and I like the features it has too
Love to see how reports and rankings work there. Time to play with it
Cheers…

This is interesting Lisa!
As you already know I use FF quite often, though I do skip up sometimes when I am a little busy. Nevertheless, I can never really think of having just one person per tweet, that would really make me send out so-so many tweets because of the number of people I normally send it out to.
I’ve never ever used any kind of application for sending out my FF tweets – guess it’s just the old kind of me.
But I am surely going to check it out as you mentioned it here. Nor do I really agree with #1 of recommending only 10 people because I have a loooong list.
Thanks for letting me know, and look out for today’s #FF that I would be sending you real soon.

Hi Lisa,
Thank you for sharing the Follow Friday tips and application! I generally try to make sure to do FF every week, but things get in the way from time to time, so I don’t always get around to it. These tips are absolutely wonderful though and things I had never thought of before. So again, thank you for sharing all of this! I’m going to be trying some of this stuff out today!

Thanks for another great informational post. I’ve learned so much from you about Twitter. Several months ago, I was clueless about how it. I still have much to learn. But, thanks to you, I now tweet with more confidence. I guess you’re my Twitter shrink. : )

Great information shared!
After reading your post and comments I feel like I should go back to school and then make a comeback with twitter and this tool. I must admit I have twitter-phobia and therefore I need to now overcome this and start optimal use of this.
Thanks for sharing this.

I’ve never used it Lisa but probably need to check it out. I always see people tweeting those messages from that site but never took the time to check it out myself. I was actually going to get on Twitter this weekend and start following some of these people that I haven’t yet. I’m so bad about that. Shame on me.
Thanks for mentioning this and glad it’s back. By the way, hope you’re feeling okay. I’m just now getting over all that crud… You don’t need it.
Enjoy your weekend okay!

I actually USED to do, as Follow Friday recommends, one #FF at a time and why to consider following them. I even automated it and still, found it exhausting. http://commun.it/ as a tool gets me half way there. Thanks for the ideas to make it a more meaningful event.
Patricia Weber recently posted..Introvert Style New Year’s Resolutions from Introverts in the Know
Hi Patricia, yes it can be exhausting when you have a lot of great followers. I try to do some the night before and put into the buffer too. I’ve been doing more one at time which is more timely but more effective. Commun.it I had used in between but only gave you like 3 options, most engaged, influenced and one other. It did not have as many as the #FF helper tool. Maybe they will improve on that too. I do like Commun.it

Lisa recently posted..Follow Friday Is Back and Newly Redesigned
I really don’t use #FF or #FollowFriday at all. I have found that many times, a person will offer a #FF list and then all the people in the list simply retweet it. When I looked to see who actually took the advice and followed the list of people, I was surprised to see that rarely was anyone followed.
For that reason alone, I would agree that recommending only 1 person per tweet is the best advice……AND give a good reason as to why you are recommending them.
Rather than #FollowFriday, I tend to make introductions of one person to another. I find it much more effective.
I do like the new features of the FollowFriday Helper though. Nice analytics.
Thanks for the post!

But I try to make at least an effort each and everyday to give some recognition for those share my content.

I checked out the new improved Follow Friday Helper this morning and it looks really cool.

I’m still undecided whether recommending one user per Tweet is best or more than one.
I like the idea of giving an explanation though why you’re giving the recommendation so maybe that is the way forward.

I have been using the follow Friday tool in the past, and I really enjoy being part of such a great thing.
I haven’t followed the “rules” as I have thanked too many people, and without saying why. But I believe thanking one at a time, and including a reason is the best way to do it.
Hi Jens, yes, same here, some Fridays you just don’t have that extra time. Sometimes I’ll start Thursday night in the Buffer but again it all depends on what’s going on. I hope you like the revamped version too. Thanks for your input Jens.

Hi Lisa, haven’t been using FolloweFriday for a long time and I see a lot of recommend straight 10 people in a tweet and don’t even have a reason for others to follow. Recommend about 4 or 5 people is great for tweet and have space to explain why others should follow them. Includes a reason in that tweet is so important. Love your tips.

Hi Lisa,
Well I’m probably the last person to know much of anything about Twitter, but I will have to get better this coming year. Guess what? I had never heard of FollowFriday and therefore, never use that feature what so ever.
I was recently introduced to “JustUnfollow” a free or paid service (depending what you want to do with it) and in just over a week I’ve got more followers in my main account than I did in the past 6 months. Well worth it and I’m thinking to use a paid service first level to be able to add one my my other accounts.
Have a great happy New Year, Lisa

HI Sylviane, I hope you try Follow Friday out this coming Friday. It’s a great way to thank followers and give recognition to them on Twitter. I use JustUnfollow to see who has unfollowed me recently. I do like it a lot. Were your new followers targeted? I did pay once in the very beginning on another Twitter account for followers and found it a waste, they were not “quality” followers. Just curious, thanks Sylviane.

I’m fairly new to Twitter, so I really don’t know about the Twitter parties, lol. I don’t like Twitter too much… I like to write a lot and Twitter only lets me type up to a certain amount of words and then it maxes out! Grr! Someone said that I could get a Twitter app that lets you type more character but it’s not really necessary. I’ll stick with Facebook.
I hope you have a wonderful New Year! ♥
