Yoast SEO Plug-in Really Guides You
Yoast SEO is an incredible plug-in. I just tried it out on another blog of mine before this one and it’s truly amazing. I don’t like playing around with plug-ins as you may remember but this one was worth it. Of course – do a back-up before you install any new plug-in.
It is called Yoast WordPress SEO plugin v1.1.5
If you want your meta title and descriptions to be counted down to the letter, this Yoast plug-in is for you. It will grade you every step of the way. It will provide you with:
- Number of words per page – Did you know you need AT LEAST 300 words? The Penquin and Panda want to see at least 300 words on any post or page.
- Keywords – where it needs to appear on the page. Do you know where the keywords should appear? Yoast SEO will tell you but this one is a little more difficult to follow.
- Keyword density – love this one! The best, it tells you if you go over or do not have enough. 4.5% is optimal.
- Slug for pages- too long or too short, Yoast will let you know this too.
- Images – Do they have alt tags with keywords? You may think you have them all but sometimes you will forget. Yoast will remind you.
- Page title – is it SEO friendly? Yoast SEO will give you ideas.
- Subheaading tags- Do you have them? How many do you need? Yoast will let you know!
- Outbound links – Do you have them? Do you know you need at least one per page/post? I just learned that today.
- Are the keywords part of your URL? More SEO juice for you.
- Meta Description? Can it be better? Longer or shorter? Does it contain the primary keywords/phrases? Yoast will let you know this too.
- Page Title – Is it okay or could it better?
The only thing is when you switch your plug-in is that you have to go back and re-do all your pages and posts. Of course I haven’t gone through my 200+ posts yet but will eventually. A little each day. Another wonderful thing is the more you use it the more you’ll GET it and do it automatically and Yoast SEO will have less corrections for you. It’s like they are training you to be a SEO superstar!
What SEO plug-in are you using for your website or blog?

i just said the same on my own blog! It really is a wonder. Yoast Rocks It! In the SEO world he is still my favorite source for news.

Susan, do you use the free or the upgraded version of Yoast? I really love it!
There is an upgraded version? Have to put that on my wish list
It has become my go to plugin, the ease of using OpenGraph date, made me a fan. I would never be able to implement that on my own. It confuses the heck out of me.

Yoast is indeed wonderful Lisa!
I’ve been using it for a while now and I think it takes care of most of the problems, which you would have to cater to manually otherwise. However, I still need to re-do my older blogs with the same plugin, which does take time. I hope that doesn’t affect the ranking as such though.
I also like the Page Analysis it does for you that makes it all the more easier to sort out anything left. Overall a wonderful plugin and thanks for sharing more about it with all of of us.

Hi Harleena, yes it will take a while to re-do the older posts. Google may like them better being updated too
I really think this plug in sounds like a dream. I will have to check it out and see how it functions. Thanks as always for sharing your tips with us.

Yes, I’m really liking using this plug-in. Makes it much easier to do the SEO and not have to count words or keywords. Let me know if you do check it out.
Sounds like an awesome app! Nice find Lisa!
Thanks Brenda, so far it’s wonderful
Hi Lisa,
I’ve heard of it earlier
But… Mhm… Never used as I’m not on WordPress. As I know it’s a great plugin get information regarding SEO and you’ve list out features well dear. Seems it diagnose website for SEO problems. Really helpful on that aspect. Else we may miss SEO related stuff. But I know one thing, you are SMARTER than this one
Cheers…
Hi Mayura, I bet you have something like this on your blogger or could come up with one. I prefer coding whenever possible over plug-ins as they can mess up the whole website.
Hi Lisa,
Confession time… I got it for my blog last year but it was way over my head. I couldn’t figure out even half of it. See, I claim to not be that techie. Even their videos were over my head so I said to heck with it. It might be a great plug-in but I’ll just keep using the SEO feature my theme has.
Great write up though and I hope for everyone else they aren’t as challenged as I am.

Hi Adrienne, it does take a little time to get used to it but I did find it easier than the last plug-in I had. Always go with what works for you, right? I was not a techie person but as time goes on it seems I to have to learn more and more to keep the websites and blogs running. I do love figuring things out for myself eventually
I still have that learning bucket list.
OMG SO glad I found someone with a blog similar to mine!!
About the plugins – I’ve heard good things about Yoast. I use All in One SEO myself, but I’ve thought about using Yoast on the new blog I’m about to start.

That’s the one I was using prior myself Nell. Do try it out, it’s much better to get your pages and blogs Google ready. I’ll have to check out your new blog.
This is one of the best plugins out there. I used to use ALL In One SEO but then decided to give Yoast a try and it works so much better.

This plugin is really good. I did a post about it last year when I did a series on WordPress SEO. However, I had to revert to All in one SEO when discovered that the post meta descriptions I entered using yoast seo plugin were not showing up on the SERPs! I was really surprised because I really praised this plugin to the highest heaven in my post about it. But knowing the importance of meta descriptions in SERPs there was nothing I could do but to remove it. But for analyzing the content it is really great.

LOL Amy, Yes I really like Yoast too. It does take time for Google to “scrap” your site. Hopefully in a few weeks you’ll notice an uptick.
