Social TV: Are You In or Out?

Please welcome Rebecca today from DVR Dame. I had asked her to do a guest post on Social TV as this is her specialty and I wanted to learn more about it – I thought it would be interesting to share with you today as it’s becoming the rage as we watch TV.

Social TV is on the up rise but will this be the next bubble to pop? Not long ago people met face to face. However in modern times people are ditching the coffee shops and meeting online. It seems becoming more social through technology has left us unapproachable in real life. I’m sure this doesn’t apply to you but it’s highly probable you know of at least a dozen people who have a hundred apps and a thousand friends through social network sites. I imagine one day soon we’ll be hooked on the toilet app.

The objective of this app you ask? To see who poops the most in a day and those with the highest score get special perks. Perhaps companies like Charmin and Febreze would sponsor these perks. Enough with my crazy ideas! Let’s get back to Social TV. I am proud to say that I have entered the world of Social TV. I created an account at Get Glue and I absolutely love it.

Every chance I get I’m checking into my favorite TV shows. Get Glue is not the only place to interact with TV-minded people.  Miso, Into Now, and Zeebox are struggling to reach the number one spot for social TV. The fifty plus crowd are banned from saying “I don’t understand technology because it’s too complicated and scary.” In fact the fifty plus crowd is becoming the fasting growing audience to use technology.  Surprising isn’t it? Don’t be a skeptic until you’ve tried it. You can follow at me on Get Glue http://getglue.com/DvrDame  or check out my blog at  http://dvrdame.blogspot.com/. Special thanks to Lisa for allowing me to write a guest post for her.

    Hi Rebecca,

Lives getting busy and busy, and Social TV pops in ;) I’ve known some facts of Social TV at my school. Here in our country, people are not much fond of tech but younger generations are. Also meeting in person happens mostly. However women and children are really fond of TV at home. Does Social TV mostly popular among women and children too? :)

I’ve never entered in to Social TV world and also not a sort of TV person since I was falling in love with PC ;) Thanks for the information about Social TV dear. You’ve my grab attention on Social TV.

Nice to meet you Rebecca :) Have a nice weekend for you both…

    Cheers…

Hey Mayura! I’m sure Social TV is popular with those confined to the house. In the US it appears that the mature crowd is increasing it’s use of technology while the younger folks have plateaued. I know most people met in person but I like to make jokes from time to time. :)

Hey Brenda! To be honest I got into Get Glue because of you. I would always see you tweeting about TV shows through Get Glue. I figured I should really try that…I’m the freakin Dvr Dame after all. lol

  • I love Get Glue, I have just been using it for a short while, but since I love TV, Movies and Music it’s the perfect social network for me. But, I still forget to check in what I am watching :)

Now, one of my friends have bought what we call a Smart TV (in Norway) and he’s doing Facebook and all sorts of social things on his TV, to me that’s a little weird, but I know that I’ll eventually get there. But TV is to me just a TV, something I am watching.
