Foursquare Updates
Have you noticed the updated Foursquare the past few days? I noticed immediately from my Droid over the weekend. It’s a more cleaner look and easier than ever to check into places. One feature I really like is the restaurant menus!
Once Foursquare knows your location it can suggest places nearby for you to eat and you can view the menu and check out the food, specials and pricing. How neat is that? The other options you have are through their new explore tab:
- Coffee
- Nightlife
- Shopping
- Art
This app is really great if you are travelling to places where you don’t know about the food or shopping. You can read others recommendations and make some of your own as well. It is easier than ever to comment on other’s check-ins and communicate with your friends on Foursquare. You can also decide where you want to share them now. Not just Twitter and Foursquare. You can also set it up automatically into your Facebook timeline. I don’t like to do that because I’m afraid I’ll have too much there and turn off some friends and family. I like being able to choose which ones go where.
If you have an American Express card you can get many discounts on Foursquare. I don’t have one but have been thinking about it because of this app. There are a lot of deals on there. I have gotten free appetizers for dinner when you didn’t need the American Express card. One restaurant that I checked into tweeted to me 30 minutes later to ask how the food and service was. What a nice way for a business to communicate with it’s customers.
Foursquare now gives you an option to like it – with a heart – just like the Instagram application.
Foursquare has more features they will be rolling out this summer so stay tuned and if you haven’t yet joined you may want to now consider it. I also using Foursquare because sometimes I forget where I ate last week and you can use Foursquare like a diary. You’ll know where and when you were if you ever need to look something up.
Have you checked in lately?

Cool Lisa
Believe me, I joined Foursquare few days ago. Not to check in, but to get details for a post I was working on. But after reading through your features list, I think I should’ve be on it. I’m glad your post came out right after joining with Foursquare.
I like the idea of using it as a personal diary. Mostly social networks help me to store info such as I use Facebook to store movies I watched
So Foursquare gonna be the one to store check ins though I don’t go out much. However I doubt how it works here in my country. Does it affect at all?
Many thanks for this one Lisa
Seems like now you are reading minds. Do you?
Cheers…
Mayura, not sure on affect yet but its a quick and essy app. I love the diary with it and do comunicate with others too.
I used to do the Foursquare thing but quit awhile back. Was too much to keep up with plus I get a lil weird about letting the world know where I was
Great changes though!
Brenda, I don’t check in everywhere. I pick and chose. Some people check into their driveways and beds. It was great during vacation to remember where I ate, etc. Great tool as we get older, huh?
Ahhh good for the alzheimers?
Maybe in a few more years I’ll start playing again! haha BTW, I don’t get email notification of your response? Strange…
You got it Brenda! I will look into that. Thanks for letting me know.
I didn’t realize Foursquare had menus now.
I often check in on Foursquare, but when I’m searching for nearby restaurants, I lean heavily on Yelp and Urbanspoon. Now I’m going to add Foursquare to my arsenal.
Thanks!
