Is Doing Pay Per Click By Yourself Effective?

When we first started on online stores we did some pay per click programs. One with Google Adwords of course and another with a smaller reseller. Managing your own pay per click program is a lot of work and has since gotten more complicated and time consuming.

Sometimes you have to do just have to pay someone to do things for you. You have to consider the time and how much that time is worth to you. I have found a company WP Promote that does just that for pay per click campaigns. Their slogan is:

Paid search, the most targeted and powerful advertising medium in history, is also a hyper-competitive, mature market where only the smartest advertisers succeed. We developed our proprietary SCORE Method to tie together strategy, continuous optimization, testing and research, with the explicit goal to take campaigns to new heights in both efficiency and scope.

What do you they have to offer you?

  • 24/7 tracking
  • Competitor Analysis & Industry Research
  • Ad Copy Creation & Testing
  • Extensive Keyword Research & Generation
  • Detailed Human Analysis & Custom Consulting
  • And more!
What is their approach? They look to set up goals for you. Everyone needs a road map to reach a goal. Part of that is knowing what your budget is. How much can you afford to spend on a pay per click campaign? They will need to know your competitive advantage so it may be highlighted in the campaign.  They will need to know if you can offer any discounts and what the seasons changes are to your business. This will help them form the adwords campaign text. But that’s not all.

They will look to see if there are new revenue opportunities for you. They will see if they are new keywords for you to expand your reach and set up tracking to test along the way. Of course they will optimize the keywords and bids for you as well. This will ensure your most value for your dollar spent on Pay Per Click.  This would include frequent search query analysis of the keywords.

They will also Research, Hypothesize & Test. Doesn’t this sound like a lot of time being spent? I sure know it is! I had recently received an offer for $100 worth of FREE Google adwords but since I knew how much time was need to put into setting it up I declined it. That wasn’t easy to pass up either!

WP Promote will also explore if you can Expand Into New Markets & Mediums. Another big chunk of time to do this if you tried it all by yourself.

Have you done your own Pay Per Click and did it take more time than you imagined?

* I am being compensated for this review of WP Promote but my opinion of doing PPC campaigns on your own are my own from experience.

With time factor, I think it’s better to outsource too. It’s effective and efficient. But I have a doubt, what if my competitor outsourced it to same company? Competitive advantage is really critical and trust matters. May be it’s not much critical for SMBs, but for popular ones. I’ve heard some companies hire individuals just to manage all of ‘em inhouse.

What Lisa? You’ve declined Google AdWords? Ohw don’t. Yeah, it’s bit confusing first time. But you can just set it up easily with help articles and let it adjust your bid value automatically if you don’t need to spend more time on finding best bid value. Better if you can create a banner ad too. It really drives traffic :) Take some time when you can.

    Cheers…

Mayura, I’ve done them in the past but it was time consuming for sure. Lots of research, testing and re-doing.

I’m running AdWords with $100 offer and didn’t spend more than 30 mins dear. I just use automatic bidding system as I don’t need to research and contribute most of my time on it.

        Cheers…

Mayura and Lisa, how do you create a banner ad?

  • Adrienne says:

So have you used this company Lisa and if so, what kind of results have they given you? I’m wondering where they place your ads.

I’ve used PPC in the past, back when I had no clue what I was doing and lost my shirt, my pants, my undergarments, you get my drift. Not fun at all.

I later took a very expensive course on how to do it right and after that they never approved any of my ads. I was even learning how to do it right and they still blocked me so I gave up. Just thought this obviously isn’t for me but would love another avenue.

Thanks for this review and it’s definitely good to know.,

I had not Adrienne but I liked what I saw there – the clients they have are impressive – the client list is here. And they have wonderful testimonials too including Sony. I had a similar experience like you Adrienne, did not get sales from it, got some visits but wasn’t worth the time and money. I think having someone do it would be a wonderful option. There is much research and testing that is involved in the process and if you are running an online store and blogs it can be a bit much. There comes a time when you must invest in help.

I remember doing the paid Google Adwords many years ago for my jewelry business. Yes it did get me more traffic to my site, but the key was having the site done properly so people were impressed enough to stay and buy or at least come back when they had more to to shop and buy.

One problem with many marketing plans …starts with the site. I tell my clients they must focus on exactly what it is they are wanting that visitor (whether they clicked on a paid ad or came through one of your social media sites), what that visitor should do.

If you are sending them to a blog post, do you want them to comment? If you are sending them to a landing page, is that page specific enough to tell the visitor what you want them to do next.

I agree with Adreinne and laughed out loud, because that is exactly what happened to me — lost my shorts!

But once I figured out it had nothing to do with getting traffic, but everything to do where I was sending this traffic, then my paid and free campaigns worked much better and started to produce results.

I can’t tell you how many times I have gone to business owners landing pages and I sit there puzzled, because there is no clear call to action or even anything that will give me a clue of what to do next or more importantly, why I would want to.

Today’s marketing is mostly about providing the benefits to your visitor in a split second. Otherwise, paid or free, traffic will just keep driving by!

But thank you Lisa for sharing companies like this that seem reputable and can actually help those looking for a paid campaign.

Thanks Lynn for sharing your experiences too. I just heard that from someone else today too that it starts with the website itself. I love how you say if they can’t find the benefit the traffic will drive right by. That sometimes can be tricky on retail sites but it sure can be done.
