Can Social Media Heal Your Scars?
Healing Your Scars
Can social media play a role in healing your scars? Some scars are physical and other scars are mental or emotional. Rock Scar Love believes it can help heal your scars by paying it forward. Amy Tippins, the founder of the movement who is an organ and tissue transplant patient herself started the movement Scars R Sexy campaign.
These scars may represent a person of character during life’s most difficult moments. We can look inside ourselves to discover just what we are made of during these times. The Scars R Sexy campaign believe that the word sexy means:
- Empowerment
- Strength
- Loving Yourself
Founder Amy also believes that beautiful scars represent the lessons that life’s challenges teach. I hadn’t thought about my own scars until today writing this. I fell off a bike when I was a kid and landed in sand. I must have been around 10 years old. I remember always trying to hide that part of my elbow and even trying to cover it up with make-up. I do remember how hard it was to pick myself up and get back on that bike so I could get home through the tears and all.
The scar remains on me stillI learned about this movement through my dear friend Samantha over at FreelanceWritingDreams recently. I was asked to help by donating a gift card from our website Fancy Scrubs. The giveaway is today over on their Scars R Sexy Facebook Page so be sure to give them “a like” and share your scar story with others. It may help you heal your scars too and someone else along the way!
You can also purchase some of their fun Scars R Sexy clothing which I also become an affiliate for here: Get your scar-loving clothes at RockScar Love.
Do you believe paying it forward will help you and others to heal scars?

Absolutely! I’m going to check out her webby. My first skin cancer removal is on my forehead. An eraser size lesion is now about the size of a quarter scar on my forehead. I hid it at first but realized but not hiding it, I can share my story and hopefully spread skin cancer awareness.
Now I call it my 3rd eye. Funny, though, now I’m Pagan, 3rd eye means a totally different thing to the Wiccan community!
Awesome post!
Hi Brenda, yes what a great way to spread more awareness on skin cancer for you. Do check it and you post about them in your way. I bet you can see better with 3 eyes and makes you more aware…
Fantastic Lisa! I’m so pleased that you’re getting involved in this amazing campaign. I never even imagined that a client of mine would inspire both my partner, Amy Shoultz, PhD, and myself in such unexpected and profound ways.
I’ve had so much fun building out the brand and launching this campaign for Amy Tippins. Our list of celebrity participants is growing daily. I’ll soon write another Huffington Post story that will include a few of the celebrities who have signed their shirts and snapped a photo. But, just a little advance scoop for you and your readers — our newest shirt signing celebs: Ted Nugent, Brad Ellis of the hit show Glee, and Greg Allman. We’ve got 8 more bagged and tagged, but I’m keeping them under wraps until the story publishes.
XO
Samantha
P.S. No sleep til Newport in August (or September)!

Samantha, you really inspired me to get something going for this one. Love being able to help in this kind of thing. Wow, you really got some stars there. Look forward to meeting up again in Newport.
I believe that true beauty doesn’t depend upon your outer look. You’re beautiful when you have a beautiful person inside you. Social medial is a good platform to healing ‘mental’ scars. I like this campaign.
Thanks Jane, I really like it to and wanted to help spread their word. We can all pay it forward.
Nice Lisa
I have some scars due to few accidents on the road and at homie. But I consider them as milestones of my life. When I see ‘em I remember those days. Attitude always matters ~ The view of their life. But it depends. Someone can ashamed of their scars. Someone can proud of ‘em too.
When I read this, I was recalling the Mother’s Day. You were talking about “Mothers of Special Need Children”. And I hope this campaign will help people not to clear out physical scars (May be it may help out too), but especially to help mental scars. You always have good intentions
I appreciate it.
Cheers…
Good point Mayura on the mothers of special needs. I hadn’t thought about that with the scars. Now you got me thinking
I read about the Scars R Sexy campaign a while ago and for the life of me couldn’t remember from where. I’m glad you linked to Samantha’s post (I love Samantha) because that would have driven me crazy trying to remember. I “liked” the Facebook page and will check it out a little more.
BTW, I’ll also check out Fancy Scrubs again. Is that your site Lisa? I’ve been there before and that may have been from one of your links as well, I can’t remember. lol My wife is a Nurse
Brian D. Hawkins recently posted..Fake it until you make it? Ridiculous!
Yes, Samantha is awesome Brian. So glad I actually got to meet her in person too. We are doing a giveaway on their Facebook page too so tell your wife to enter and contact me (DM or email) and I’ll give you a code for a discount when she needs some. We have clogs too. That’s what got me all started with this online “stuff”. I really love it but still have my day job. I really like the charity type things too with the business. It’s a small way to give back. We just finished one for Huntington’s Disease and we do a larger one for Teal Toes – Ovarian Cancer in the fall. So when I heard about the Scars R Sexy campaign I knew I wanted to do something.
Hey Lisa! yes i do believe that social media can help heal our scars. I was in same condition as you were in your childhood the only difference i was 13 year old at that time. Boy o boy that was one heck of an accident i had and i still remember that damn day, leaving with a long scar right under my left hand elbow. i really like the thought that “It is more about who you are INSIDE and not your outside appearance.” and i do believe that social media can help heal anyone’s scar. thank you for that link i will surely submit my story. I’ve got loads of them though much of my scars are no more but some like the cycle accidents one still remain and may remain for the life time.

Yes, do submit the story. I agree – it’s more about what is in the inside of us and not the outward appearance. Thanks for sharing your story
Absolutely. Finding community, support, and sharing your story is a great, and sometimes essential part of the healing process
Denise recently posted..All Personal Development Books Are Flawed
Yes, I think you hit the nail on the head with the “support in a community.” That is what makes it help and is part of that essential healing process. Thanks Denise.
I started writing a blog a while before my mum got sick, but writing helps to heal grief for me and also share useful information to help other mums/moms, which I know my mum wanted me to do.
So healing a scar, kinda…

I’m sorry about your mom Sarah. Blogging and Social Media can be therapeutic. I hope you find it will for you too.
I think whatever bad or accident happens in our life we need to share. Its the process of mental relief. Social medial is a good platform to heal mental scars.

Thanks Ahsan for coming by and commenting. Yes I like that term “Mental Relief.”
Hi Lisa,
I love ideas like this – turning things that evoke negative feelings/perceptions into a positive experience. This is so constructive and I love the cause!
I, too, am a big fan of the cathartic experience that writing brings us. To be honest, I didn’t know what to expect when I began. I had no idea how expressive and wonderful it would be to share in the ways we do here on the web. It’s a self-discovery and learning process for me in a big way. I’m happy to see others using this to heal themselves.
I took a quick peek but am going to check out the site a bit more to get a better feel for what’s being shared.
Thanks for sharing Lisa!

Lisa, thanks so much for writing such a wonderful blog on our ScarsRSexy campaign. Double thanks to everyone for supporting us. Happy SITS day, Lisa!
You are welcome Amy – it’s a great campaign. And thanks for stopping by for Sits Day.
It is always nice to pay it forward. The world wouldn’t be nice if no one did that.
I like this idea! My husband has a few scars from surgery that it’s taken him his whole life to accept… I think they’re beautiful. Maybe something like this could help him? Or is it only for women?

I believe our scars make us powerful and beautiful. What a great thing this is.
I have an entire blog (The Difficult Things) dedicated to the things that sent me to therapy for just that reason — to help others heal (and for my own healing, of course). I think it’s so important to talk about those things so others will know they are not alone.
Thanks for sharing this.
