7 Awesome Reasons to Use Tumblr
Use Tumblr – 7 Awesome Reasons to Use It!
Do you use Tumblr? I had set up an account years ago for one of our retail websites and just dabbled with it. Recently I worked on writing a piece for the RISBJ and wanted to included Tumblr as a blogging platform. I was amazed at some of the things I learned about Tumblr and wanted to share a few here. You may want to consider to use Tumblr after reading this.
- Tumblr is short and sweet. Like my favorite Twitter. You can blog a quote, you can blog a paragraph or blog away until your heart’s content.
- Tumbler is easy. Yes, it is really easy! Pick your theme from hundreds to choose from and you are ready to go. Many are free and you can pay for customized themes.
- You can have affiliate programs or ads on Tumblr. A great reason to use Tumblr !
- You can email your posts to your Tumblr blog. How easy is that? Even from your mobile phone too.
- You own your own work on Tumbler - Tumblr has a creator-friendly Terms of Service means you keep your own copyright. Dozens of Tumblr blogs have even received book deals! (according to Tumbler)
- You can set up pages on your micro-blog there too.
- It’s all FREE to use Tumblr. No hosting needed. BUT of course the danger there is that if you violate any terms you can be shut down, remember that wordpress blog that went POOF?
What really amazed me were these following websites are a Tumblr site:
- IBM – They actually have 4 sites there.
- Huggies – I love the name of this one – Highchair Critics. They really get creative on this blog.
- The Boston Globe - The Globe has several micro blogs there as well.
- Rolling Stone - This one does not even look like a tumblr blog – it really looks like a WordPress blog at first glance.
- CNN Money Tech - Another blog that I would have not guessed is done on Tumblr.
Have you ever used Tumblr and do you like it? Will you consider to use Tumblr now?

Oh my, it’s funny you’ve posted about this because I just commented on Latorsha’s blog that if I stumble upon a Tumblr blog, forget it. I’m not subscribing or even attempting to comment.
When I first started blogging, I had one. I found so many porn sites out there, I just deleted my account. Creep me out.
I’m glad you found some good use for it.
That is funny Brenda, and I too ran into that. Once I did I would stop following those types of blogs which were quite graphic. That’s why I was so amazed when I did the research that big companies were using it very well. I’m glad I didn’t quit it and have picked it up a notch and will monitor what it does, etc.
Hi Lisa,
I have actually never used Tumblr. I set up an account a long time ago, because I thought that I was going to use it. But, what happened was that I couldn’t find a reason why I should. I had more than enough to do on my blog and with the social media things happening, so I just stopped before I got started.
Now, that you’ve added some reasons to why, I might have to take a closer look at it again

Hi Jens, I was pretty impressed when I did some research on the type of blogs that were there. It was not the first impression I had of Tumblr.
I just had someone comment on my blog so since she’s never been there before I always check out their blog. It was Tumblr and it looked really good too.
I’ve never used it but continue to hear great things about their site. I’m looking into possible starting some web 2.0 sites and it’s on my list of ones to check out.
Thanks for doing this review Lisa. That really did help.
Hey, hope you’re enjoying your day!

Isn’t it amazing what they can do with Tumblr Adrienne? It was amazing checking out some of the top blogs over there. It inspired me to set up a feed and analytics on ours to see where it goes. Stay tuned!
I never realized exactly how cool Tumblr is! Thank you for sharing this, I will definitely be putting it on top of my things to do list
Maybe I can get picked up for a book deal! That would be awesome.

Nice Lisa. Here what we call share knowledge
I’ve used Tumblr once when I try out blog platforms. Tumblr was my friends’ choice and it’s really easy to set up. Actually it has nice designs that you won’t see anywhere. However my choice was Blogger and second is a battle among Tumblr & WordPress.
Cheers…
Hi Mayura, does your friend still have the Tumblr blog and how is it doing? Yes, I was amazed at some of the designs there.
Yeah Lisa
They blog on Tumblr, but as they say it’s really good for personal blogs. Also TypePad is really good platform as few of my friends were there too.
Cheers…
That’s what I was thinking Mayura! About starting a personal one there. Something short and sweet
Thanks for sharing. I recently opened a Tumblr account and I am in the process of trying to figure it out. I wonder does it make sense to have a blog and a bog at Tumblr too, or am I just repeating myself?

Check out the samples I included, I would name it differently and never duplicate the exact same content. I loved the high chair example for Huggies.
While I have heard about Tumblr, I have even thought about using it. I have heard about famous people and other large companies – besides the ones you listed – use Tumblr quite a lot. I started with Blogger, and am now using WordPress, which is enough for me.

Hi Paul, yes it’s hard if you have many already. Though with Tumblr you could just post images and short quote type blogs.
I did not realise that Tumblr was used by so many top companies. I just checked cnnmoneytech and it looks great. It has a PR of 7. That is something to boast about. I might get a Tumblr blog and blog on it for a while and see how it goes.

Shalu, yes some of the Tumblr blogs rank really high. I was surprised too and that’s why I had to share it.
I’ve totally been avoiding Tumblr. With FB, Twitter and my WordPress blogs, its so overwhelming to take on yet another social media platform. Plus I’ve visited other people’s tumblr pages and didn’t like the layout.
Michelle recently posted..A New Outlook: It’s Never Too Late to Start Over
Hi Michelle, I felt that way once too but after doing some research I may start another to really get the feel of it. It can be overwhelming being on so many networks and blogging at the same time as well as working. Actually, quite overwhelming at times!

Great post! I think a lot of people simply don’t give Tumblr a chance, despite all these great features you’ve described. And those Tumblr sites you’ve chosen to highlight are all awesome. I never would have guessed it was the platform! (aside from the “join tumblr” in the corner, I suppose…)
Andrew Walsh recently posted..Are Texting and Tweeting Destroying the English Language?
Yes Andrew, I was surprised on the quality of sites I came across there. They really have gotten better and offer more themes.
You’ve made me curious about Tumblr. I guess what holds me back is that I already have a macro blog, so what have I to gain from a micro one?
Still, I can feel the cogs turning in my head. Maybe a Tumblr micro blog would be good for a very finely honed niche?
Hmmm…
Thanks for this post!

p.s. Like you, I adore Twitter!
