What Are You Doing For 2033?

2033 – Are You Ready?

I read the news about Social Security benefits running out  today sooner than the trustees of the fund originally thought. This wasn’t exactly new news but just more stunning.

2033 – The Numbers

I immediately took out my calculator to figure out how old would I be. The number appeared: 69. Just about the time I would be eligible to retire. Nothing left? After all those years contributing since I was 14.

They went on to further state that congress must:

  • Increase the payroll tax rate from its current level of 12.4 percent to 15.01 percent;
  • Reduce benefits by 16.2 percent;
  • Find alternative sources of revenue;
  • Adopt some combination of these approaches.
Will the politicians be able to work on any sort of deal between now and the election to do anything to help this situation out? The longer nothing is done the worse the situation may get.

2033 - where will you be?

2033 – What Can We Do?

It made me think. I sure hope we’ll all be doing what we love by then and can continue to long after and still pay the bills with it. Even if they can sustain the social security benefits with their recommendations there will be less of a benefit coming to all of us and we’ll have to be paying into it sooner than later. It’s a loss of money on both sides of the coin. Put more in and get less out.

I hope everyone has some sort of plan. I’ve always liked having a plan B or C.  It may be time for plan D, E and F for many of us. I believe most of us know that and many bloggers and entrepreneurs I have met since I started this blog in August do have those plans in place.  I feel bad for the younger generation in college. I also read one half of the graduates have not found work and will never be able pay back their student loans.  We have passed over the 1 trillion dollar mark in students loans in this country alone.  I just can’t fathom that trillion dollar number.

What will it take for us to achieve thriving past 2033?

  • Time
  • Patience
  • Energy
  • Drive
  • Learning
  • Hope
  • Persistance

But heck – we all have until 2033!

What is your plan for preparing for 2033?

    This is a terrible frightening thought as well as makes me angry as HEL. You work all these years and then when you are finally able to retire, you will have nothing? Another slap in the face by the Government who mismanaged or swindled away our money? It’s truly sad. I hope in the years to come something happens where we are left with something to live on. I can’t picture myself “tricking” or “standing on the street corner” at 70 years old to try and make a buck. :wink:

    I’m totally disgusted at our America as it is today. I hope in the near future something will happen to turn it around to get it BACK to the way it was.

      Well I can see you making money blogging then Brenda :) I am disgusted too at what’s going on politically. I hope too something will change in the near future. But today’s primary shows people don’t seem to care as no one gets out to vote!!! We’ll see what happens come November….

    I will be 81, but hopefully, will have myself all set before then. Though with the cost of everything going up, it is hard to prepare yourself for the future. Will I live to be 81? I have no idea so I will prepare, just in case.

    ha! forget 2033, do u know how little social security payments are now? seniors are not making ends meet and have to either live outside of the U.S. to retire happily or have a roommate. every time i hear how much of the taxpayers money goes to fighting wars, it pisses me off because it more than contributes to this.

      I know, my folks are in there 80s and SS is not a lot. I just feel bad our generation and those coming may have it really rough in this country.
