The Fundraiser for Stacie’s Children
Last night my husband and I attended the fundraiser for Stacie’s children – Lily, Jack and MacKenzie at the Harborside Restaurant. It was sold out but we were able to purchase tickets through a friend of a friend, as we live in the smallest state in the country, where everyone knows someone.

| Beautiful view of the bay outside the restaurant |
We arrived early before it got dark and immediately saw a crowd. We just knew it would be a good turn out for this fundraising event.
They had many giveaways for raffles that you could put your ticket into a bag for a chance to win.
 |
| So many small businesses donated for the raffles |
It was amazing to see so many businesses throughout the state that participated. A lot of
small businesses. They also had a silent auction where you could place bids on items and the person with the highest bid would win it.

Holistic Health Center of RI and Chris from
World’s Fare Chef  whom we both knew and were able to sit and chat with.

I met several of Stacie’s friends, one of whom Stacie
wrote about in her blog, and had connected with right before her death. I often wondered through the night what Stacie would have thought about so many people coming together because of her to help her children left behind. It was a bitter sweet time and the organizers did an incredible great job of putting this event together for them.
It was so crowded after 8 that you could barely walk around inside.

| The crowd was incredible at the event including our State Representative Jim Langevin |

What an amazing turnout! I'm sure a lot of money was raised to help Stacie's children.
Looks like an awesome good time! It's great to see a pic of your and your husband. I so love bloggers who pic themselves. Makes it easier to relate on a REAL level

Hi Candice, Yes I'm sure they did between the ticket prices, the raffles and the silent auction. It was wonderful to see so many small businesses around the state donate products for both the raffle and auction along with the donations of food for the buffet.
Thanks Bren, and I don't like my pics! But I thought it would make it more personal. I always cringe using my photo
Lisa – thanks so much for featuring us in your blog! You always look great in your photos – what are you talking about? It was a great event and was glad to support it
Sincerely, Dr. Jewel & Chef Chris
Great post, Lisa! Yes, I've met wonderful people through my Facebook Fan page. Not only was I inspired to attend the "Walk or Drive Weekend" hosted by Ribbons to Remember, I am passionately working to promote it and raising ovarian cancer awareness. Without social networking I don't think I would have made that connection!
Hi Susan, yes that's how I met so many people too (Twitter for me) and what brought me to the fundraiser. I love that part of the business for Fancy Scrubs when we are able to participate in fundraising events like we have for Teal Toes. Really hope to do more in the future!
You are welcome Dr. Jewel. I never forgot how you brought me back to health after my Lyme
Glad we were all able to go and support the cause.
Seems it's a great event
Glad to see you engaged with such charity events Lisa…
May you always have courage and strength to enlighten others lives…
Cheers…
Lisa, I'm so glad you got to attend the event. Stacie was such a beautiful and amazing spirit and I know, without a doubt, that she's enjoying the company of the Creator and all the angel and saints in the shining City on the Hill. We'll all get the honor of meeting her once again, in person, should we also make it to that shining city — the New Jerusalem in paradise.
I'm saddened, still, by the circumstances of the event and why you went, but am joyful that people like you, and others, exist to make things better for those left behind.
Yes, my writing has taken me to new places. I wouldn't have met you and Ken in person, if it weren't for Medtopicwriter and Twitter. It would have been another working holiday for this lowly health care journalist from Texas, rather than a meeting of 5 people who, otherwise, wouldn't have crossed paths that day. I'm grateful for that. I've traveled around the country to various journalist conferences and press meetings about health care policy, I've met a wonderful friend and fellow journalist (but one far, far more accomplished than I), James S. Robbins…I met close friend and advocate, David Fraser, client and fellow entrepreneur/collaborator, Kari Williamson, RN…so many beautiful people…too numerous to name — all because of my freelance career.
Thanks for this thought-provoking post.
Samantha
What an inspiring story and incredible way to raise money for Stacie's children.
Thanks Mayura.
Hi Samantha, yes it was sad too at the same time. Knowing why we were there.
You really have met some amazing people along your travels – that is so neat Samantha.
Yes Lauren, the event was inspiring to see what people can do when they come together for a cause.
what a wonderful story… My blog hasn't physically taken me anyplace yet, but it sure has taken my heart lots of places. When I started blogging two years ago, I never dreamed I would meet such wonderful people who have totally captured my heart, and helped me through difficult times.
Yes Hilary it is truly amazing how many people you meet from it. I never knew that going into it.
Hi Lisa, thanks for sharing this bittersweet experience. I am sorry for what has been lost and I am also hopeful because of the insight and experience you shared.
What blogging has done for me is to give me a chance to reflect on my own experiences and life understandings more. To say it more plainly, it appears that blogging is helping me to grow. I am truly thankful to those who are willing to share inside this 'blogging world'. So thanks again and I hope to see / hear more from you.
I'm so sorry I had to miss the fundraiser, though I was able to purchase a ticket. It sounds like it was a really good night.
Our blog has definitely taken us places… if it weren't for our travels around Rhode Island, there wouldn't be an I {heart} Rhody. And you can bet that our blog spurs us to going new places and trying new things.
Thank you David. I think blogging helps us to grow too in many ways too.
I know – you really wanted to go and you were such a help via Twitter spreading the word – thank you! As soon as I find out the date of the summer fundraiser I'll be sure to let you know.
I treasure meeting you, Lisa, and always will. I look forward to getting together again before too long.
Great question Lisa! I never really thought about it, but it has gotten me into doors otherwise shut and it just landed me my new job. When I started my blog it was for other reasons and what it spun into is beyond my wildest dreams. Marketing has become such a passion for me that I live and breathe it.
It's taken me so long to find my own niche in business and what I really wanted to do. What I didn't know was that it would open up door, expand my knowledge of this business and land me a job all at the same instance. The event you went to sounded fun and I hope they were able to raise enough money for her family.
Thanks Sonia – yes it is amazing how it adds more roads to your paths in life. I haven't heard the total that was made from the event but I did learn they will have another this summer. I'm sure it must have done well with all the people and donations for raffles and auctions.
