10 Confessions of An Obsessed Blogger

Are You An Obsessed Blogger?

I think I realized I’m an obsessed blogger. Last week I was brushing my teeth and tweeting away. I tweeted out ”Does anyone else tweet while brushing their teeth?” Bren from Pibblesnme tweeted me back “I tweet blow drying my hair”. I laughed for I had been doing that too. Curt tweeted back “I’m not coordinated enough for that.” LOL. I wondered: Are we all obsessed bloggers?

obsessed bloggers

I confirmed to myself that I am the other day. I was meeting a dear old friend for lunch and I started driving to the restaurant and was thinking about my next blog post and found myself on the wrong highway and headed in the wrong direction. I think I was on auto pilot and driving to work (it was a holiday…) I had to re-route myself and ended up late arriving meeting my friend for lunch.
Now for those that may have have known me a long time know that I am never late. As a kid my parents were always early for everything, it was ingrained in me to be on time. And I always was on time. That is until I started blogging. Now I’m rushing to make it on time or a few minutes late. What’s a few minutes, right?

What are the 10 signs of being an obsessed blogger?

  1. You end up late for everything – always one more tweet or more more blog post to or blog to comment on.
  2. You tweet from everywhere including the bathroom, the tub, in the kitchen cooking, etc.
  3. You look at your stats more than 1x daily.
  4. You are asked to go somewhere and think: Do I have the time? But you still go, after all you have several apps on your smart phone or tablet to be able to multi-task at anytime from anywhere.
  5. You burn the cookies in the oven because you think you have a few more minutes or the water boils over and the pan is no longer of any use.
  6. Your house is full  of dust – who has time to clean when there is another post to write? (Until of course you can no longer stand it.) You read more blogs than anything else
  7. You really get to know a lot of different bloggers and actual meet up with some in person (that’s an awesome thing).
  8. The keys on your laptop no longer have letters, they are wiped gone from so much typing. (Thank goodness I know them by heart and don’t need to look!)
  9. You feel better after you complete a blog post – you feel a sense of accomplishment and sometimes it may just relax you too until you feel that next post coming on
  10. Driving in the wrong direction because you are thinking of your next blog post.

What would you add to the confessions of a an obsessed blogger?

Happy new year!! :) I like this post and you're right on all what you said here!! :) lols..*sigh* I think I'm also one of many who's obsessed now! lols..

  • Lisa says:

I'm going to not look at stats daily anymore and just check on them weekly (I hope) Happy 2012 to you as well!

  • Curt says:

Guilty as charged on most of these! Especially the stats. Sometimes I wonder why I keep looking at them all through the day. I feel it keeps me in touch.

I think you covered it all. I'm obsessed!

  • Candice says:

HAHA! This is great! Guilty! I guess I should go clean. LOL

  • Brenda says:

LMAO Definitely quilty as charged BUT I am more obsessed about my Twitter than my blog :) ! Twitter is always active and I strive for the "interaction" (one can only talk so much to the pit bull in the morning) PLUS there are so many interesting things that can happen while getting ready for work in the morn. Ya tweet about it, go back later and read them, THEN write a blog post! heheh

  • Lisa says:

We need an Obsessed Blogger Anonymous group…and an Obsessed Twitter Anonymous Group…Who is in?

  • Jan Bierens says:

Guilty on a few of the 10 counts: 1, 3 and 10, so I wouldn't call myself an obsessive blogger. On the other hand I get the feeling a few times a day 'Uhmmm there's is something to blog about' certain situations, so I'm thinking in this almost obsessive behavior. True. So… guilty. If i had a laptop and baked cookies I probably scored another 2 point on the 'guilty' scale… ;)

I'm cooking and wondering if I should photograph it, thank goodness I don't do that all of the time. #9 made me chuckle, my tv remote is blank, though. Happy New Year!

  • Chasing Joy says:

Wow you have described me perfectly. Obsessed Blogger raising her hand, but only 1 cause I'm tweeting with the other.

I'll add to your list you alywas tweet or read posts while eating and you never get to bed on time because you are busy with blog stuff.

  • Lisa says:

    Thanks New End Studio….
Chasing Joy, that's a good one staying up past your bed time or while eating.

  • championm2000 says:

You process information and categorize it in terms of a potential title for a blog post.

    Sad, huh?

  • Dvr Dame says:

If I check yes to 8 of the 10 signs then I'm not considered an obsessive blogger. Right?

  • Lisa says:

You are right on the borderline!

  • dj Goddessa says:

  • Meg says:

I think I am obsessed. Sometimes I find it hard to live in the moment, because I'm thinking of how to turn a situation into an interesting post. I have to snap myself out of it from time to time!

  • I was this way even *before* blogging, LIsa!

Except that – even now – I am habitually prompt for things. So much so that I once was 2 minutes late for work, and when I walked in the door the rest of the staff exclaimed, “Oh, THERE you are. We were so worried!”

Anyway, I think the symptoms you describe above apply equally well to absent-minded professors and creative types in general. It’s what happens when you have a passion for something beyond the normally accepted parameters of our culture.

I’m musically inclined and tend to get melodies in my head – especially in the morning. Other creatives I know have many of the same symptoms as you mention in your post.

Before the big social media explosion -only a small percentage of folks were “absent-minded professors,” but now?!?! Now, I’d say that the majority of us are.

I think it’s great! Except when driving, of course.

Now that I blog – Tweet – and am utterly addicted to Instagram, I am even more of a space cadet than I was before!!! But for certain folks, we just need that interaction and that creative fix. I feel so much happier after I tweet something witty, or help connect someone to info I know they want, or – in the middle of a mundane work day – I snap a poetic photo & share it on Instagram.

I’ve met people IRL, too, and it’s so fantastic! That same zing that intrigued me online works in person, too.

My only problem is that I get overwhelmed because I don’t know how to keep up with everything that I want to online. I’m so impressed by your ability to do so.

I’m not there ….yet. So far I’m guilty of 1, 10 and sometimes 7, as I’m a little backed up on my blog readings….I do find myself making sticky notes and listing in my to do journal, the titles of the blogs to write…but the procrastinator in me just keeps adding instead of writing lol

Great post Lisa, I’m afraid I’m guilty! Feeling much more relaxed after a completed blog post is the main one, until the next one is due but there are others on your list that come a close second. I love blogging but I fear that it’s taking over.

With regards to tweeting every now and then my husband takes my mobile away to hurry me along, as he’s finding it’s a distraction and its a very painful experience.

I notice you didn’t provide any solutions, I must go on Twitter to find some self help :)

Checking in from Chasing Joy’s FBF but always a pleasure to connect with you Lisa.

LOL Gillian, mine does the same thing with my mobile too :) I bet all of us bloggers have that type of issue with significant other :)

  • Brenda says:

Isn’t it awesome to flashback to oldies but goodies? I’m still obsessed but not as bad. I like to think blowing drying my hair without read my TL is more important, however, I do find myself falling back into old habits! Did you start that Twitter Anonymous Group yet?

  • I knew I was an obsessed blogger when I stopped letting my family use things before I took pictures from five different angles first.

  • Alison says:

I confess: I am borderline obsessed. If there was a bumper sticker that read: “I’d rather be blogging,” I’d get it. I’d also get one that read “I’d rather be pinning”!

  • Chrystina says:

You buy an entire agenda just to organize your blog post ideas.
When you read a post that inspires you you absolutely MUST write yours right after that.
You constantly think in terms of Instagram pictures.
You talk in terms of hastags.
You find yourself thinking about other bloggers that you read about on a daily basis.
You send Christmas cards to fellow bloggers across the world.
You see that glazed over look in your non-bloggers friends eyes as you’re discussing whether or not you should let certain parts of your real life show on your blog.
You heavily debate what parts of your life are shown on the internet.
You most of the time decide you don’t care.

Omg the list goes on. Loved this. #FBFriday

  • Joyce says:

I’m becoming more and more obsessed. I feel so guilty when my 2 year old asks “You’re still on Facebook? What are you doing?”

Twitter is off and on. But Facebook I’m on all the time. I like to come up with quippy sayings and experiences that will get likes, comments and shares.
