Time Spent on Social Media – Do You Know Where Your Time Is Being Spent?
Someone asked me recently how I do it, being on all the different social media websites. And I thought, I should make a pie chart of it. A visual representation. This will be good to look back on in the coming months as things change with the social media websites. According to Marketing Land as of April 2013 27% of our time online is spent on social networks. I wonder how much more time bloggers spend their time on social networks.
Now Vs. Then – Time Spent on Social Media Over 2 Years
I first did this pie chart back in September 2011. A lot has changed in the almost 2 years of being on social media websites. Some are no longer giving you link juice or have been abandoned by many. New social media websites have entered the picture. You cannot continue to be on the old sites and enter into the new ones. You would not have enough time in a day to keep up and regularly visit each. You must pick and choose your time spent on social media.
- 4 of these sites I no longer visit regularly, Delicious, NewsMeBack, Digg and Stumble Upon.
- New social media sites I spend time on now include: Pinterest, Tumblr, Scoop.it, Blog Engage, Biz Sugar, LinkedIn, Instagram to name several.
- Content creation has changed as well. Back in September 2011 there were not as many infographs or image sharing sites and posts as there are now.
- Social has become more important as changes in SEO have made many get into the social media networking websites.
I would love to know how you spend your time on social media websites. Would your chart look anything like this? How would it be different?
Post updated May 26, 2013 – A new chart will be needed to compare since this post first appeared in September 2011. A lot has changed since then, for example- Pinterest wasn’t around! That really changed my time spent on social media.
